Abstract:We studied physiological and bio-chemical properties during the leaf expansion period under heavy salt stress. On the April 29~(th),2007,the root, shoot and leaf samples of Fraxinus velutina and Tamarix chinensis were collected at two hours intervals from ten o'clock am.to eight o'clock pm.according to 120-degree orientation around the standard plants in the Guanggang Forest Park of Dagang district,Tianjin, respectively. Then, the samples were put into liquid nitrogen jug and brought to the laboratory. The tissue water content, water potential and, soluble sugar,as well as SOD and CAT activity of those samples were determined, respectively. Our findings suggested that, the tissue water contents of T.chinensis in leaves and roots were higher than those of F.velutina, and the change amPlitudes of the water contents of T.chinensis from leaf to shoot and from shoot to root were greater than those of F.velutina. There existed a significant negative linear relationship between the water potential and the soluble sugar content in leaves of F.velutina, while there had a negative quadratic curve relationship between them in leaves of T.chinensis, but there was no significance. There was a positive correlation between SOD and CAT activities in leaves of T.chinensis, while a negative correlation between them in leaves of F.velutina.Thus,salt-resistance of T.chinensis, with abilities on salt-dilution,osmoregulation and metabolism,is stronger than that of F.velutina.
