The U.S.Youth Program in 1960s

Abstract:With the cold war confrontation extending to the Third World in 1960s,the role of the second and third generation of young leaders in Asia,Africa and Latin America countries attracted more attention from American policy makers.As a result,the Kennedy Administration began to integrate all the efforts and programs carried out by respective governmental agencies to gain decisive influence on the rising leaders of the developing countries,and finally worked out a well-defined Youth Program and a top-down institutional organization.Consistent with general objectives of American psychological warfare,the so-called Youth Program endeavored to win over the hearts of target groups,channeled them to a road of pro-America and Anti-communist,and undermined their political orientation to the end.Though huge manpower and material were poured into the effort,the Youth Program failed to make much progress in influencing the third-world youth during the term of Kennedy and Johnson Administration.Nevertheless,persistent ideological and cultural indoctrination to these youth by the US Government in a sense contributed a lot to the final political options of the Third World.
