Abstract:Three possible models and three corresponding stages of science communication in China are summarized.Considering the complex situation of China,the author believes that the three different models will co-exist for a long time and play important roles respectively in their rational scopes.

Abstract:The emergence of new information and communication technologies and new social communication practices has called for the transformation of communication studies.Communication researchers have been asking a number of questions:Can the new information and communication technologies lead to a paradigm shift in communication theories?Are classic communication theories still applicable to the new media environment?What are the new research questions that emerge in the new media age?What are the interactions between the new information and communication technologies and new media research?How do the new media studies transform the current communication research?How should Chinese new media research be developed under the background of globalization and unique context of Chinese society and culture ? Based on the review of previous research,this study analyzes three approaches to new media studies,namely social scientific,critical,and interpretive paradigms,and reveals three findings.First,it is the changing communication activities and practices in which people engage that lead to the changing views of communication,such as a shift from″media-audience″study to ″new media-user″study.Moreover,the development of new media industry not only generates new research objects and theories,but offers new perspectives and methods to test classic theories.Second,in examining the relationship between new media technologies and social change,this study concludes that technological determinism is usually a dominant paradigm in the early phase of new media technologies.As these new technologies diffuse,researchers will turn to a social shaping perspective that focuses on how new media technologies are shaped by various social forces on the one hand,and are shaping social life in socio-historical contexts on the other.Third,the emergence of new media events has become a unique and influential communication phenomenon that attracts the attention of a large number of Chinese communication researchers.Nevertheless,most of these studies are case studies and are limited to the application of western theories to the Chinese society,thus failing to provide any insight into the communication mechanism in the Chinese new media environment.Against such a backdrop,this study suggests apossible direction for Chinese scholars to facilitate a″cultural shift″of new media research,to adopt the″thick description″method of cultural sociology to reveal the specific implications of new media events,and to uncover the socio-psychological consequences of these events and their associated social factors in the Chinese context.The goal is to highlight the interplay of different social forces in new media studies in transitional China.Meanwhile,scholars should take advantage of new media technologies to develop new research methods and procedures,to explore unique research questions in the Chinese social and cultural context,and to generate new theories that can facilitate the development of communication research.

Abstract:By making a meticulous study on the scientific ideas transmitted by Science into China,this thesis tries to provide new materials for the study on science communication in modern history of China. From perspectives such as"Science is intellectual and systemic","idea is the mother of facts","the socalled spirit is what appeared before science"",science is the wheel which pushes the world forward rapidly"and"Science is such vast knowledge that it should be categorized accordingly to make it more convenient to use",this thesis illustrates concepts like essence,categories,functions of science,scientific spirit and scientific ideas.We draw a conclusion that with its regular transmission of scientific ideas which were different from New Youth,Science,together with New Youth became two representative magazines respectively stood for science and democracy.And the modified knowledge of natural science people gained from New Youth was completed with Science which provided its readers systemic and detailed information of natural science.

Abstract:Based on the existing theories of science communication, from the three aspects of science communication such as dissemination information contents, participants and flowing direction of information, the study illustrated the mode of science communication in the age of we media. The results show that participants consisted of science information producers, government, traditional mass media and the general public;and the direction is mainly two-way. Science communication based on communication and interaction can be achieved be-cause of we media platforms. In addition, the study also shows that in the age of we media, ways of communications are various; the communication effects are better with increased interactions;weakening intermediary makes communication more direct;and science infor-mation has a wider influence because of a second mass transmission based on understanding.
A Comparative Study on Curriculum Settings of Science Communication Talents Cultivation in High Education Institutions between Japan and China

Abstract:In this article,the science communication talents cultivation goals and curriculum settings in high education institutions are studied and compared between Japan and China. The study framework is composed of " why we communicate", " what to communicate" and" how to communicate". Compared to Japan, science communication educational goals in China are not well focused, there is lacking of systematical approach towards curriculum development about "how to communicate". Although the majority of curriculum settings are primarily on the theoretical aspect,there is no corresponding in depth curriculum about " why we communicate"and "what to communicate". All of these reflect insufficient knowledge and study about science communication among education community, science and technology community and the media.

Abstract:This article critically traces the development of science communication in China in the past 30 years. While confirming the tremendous progress Chinese science communicators have achieved in popularising science, it argues that the deficit model-based popularisation effort cannot meet the diversifying demands on science in Chinese society. Citing both recent science and technology controversies and active public participation in science pilot initiatives in China, this article concludes that science communication efforts in the country must be focused on constructive dialogues and public engagement with science.

Abstract:While understanding of communication model is gradually processing,most researchers have remained in the surface structure.This paper argues that theory and method as sur- face structure is not a complete model.The decisive factors of a model are not limited to what theories or methods are used,but the model's goals and values of the theory and method,its relationship with the mainstream words power and its in-depth structure. The research models may be clarified into three types:positivism,humanism and criti- cism,with different research dimensions and standpoints.A review of 30 year's communi- cation study in China would find problems of fragmented use of theory,which have a close link with superficial understanding of communication research models.

Abstract:Abstract China has attached a great significance to bringing science to the public—known as kepu (科普, ‘science popularization’) or kexue chuanbo (科学传播, ‘science dissemination’)—in recent years, partly in response to its unprecedented push for innovation in science and technology. In 2018, it spent 16 billion yuan (US$2.3 billion) on such endeavours, nearly 80% of which was government funding, according to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Science and Technology. With one science-education venue for every million people, approximately 76 million visits were made to the country's 518 general-science museums and 142 million visits were made to 943 museums dedicated to a specific subject matter, such as the Geological Museum of China. In a forum chaired by National Science Review’s executive editor-in-chief, Mu-ming Poo, scientists, journalists and public-information officers discussed the differences in science communication between China and developed nations, the challenges and opportunities of raising scientific literacy in China, how it has played out in a wide range of controversial topics, from stem-cell research to climate change, and the importance of international collaboration. A Study of New Communication Models of Education Policies in China

Abstract:This paper explores the communication models of education policies in China,which was classified into six sub-models according to the communication routes and relationship.Among the internal communication system,mediated communication and directly public communication models,profound changes have occurred,including changing from the linear model to the waveform model,from the model to the press conference model,from the windows model to the pressure model,that is,from dominating one way communication into two way communication.The framework and logic of communication are clearly transforming from control and propaganda into negotiation and interaction.

Abstract:This study attempted to illuminate the cause and relation between government, scholars, disciplines, and societal aspects, presenting data from a content analysis of published research with the key word science communication(????)in the title or in the key words, including academic papers published in journals and dissertations from the China National Knowledge Infrastructure database. Of these, 572 articles were coded using categories that identified science topics, theory, authorship, and methods used in each study to examine the breadth and depth that Science Communication has achieved since its inception in China. This study explored the dominance of History and Philosophy of Science scholars rather than Communication scholars. We also explored how science communication research began from theories and concepts instead of science report analysis and the difficulties of the shift from public understanding of science to public engagement in China.

Abstract:Nowadays, the world is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century, and public communication of science & technology has been becoming more and more vital. It is one of China's media's responsibilities to create "Star Scientists" and to tell unique stories of scientists and technicians well with Chinese characteristics. The rapid development and deep integration of new media have put forward higher requirements on mainstream media for the typical reports and public opinion guidance of scientists and technicians. In this quantitative research, 272 reports on Chinese scientists and technicians from six central news agencies' WeChat official account within six months, including Xinhua News Agency and Guangming Daily, were taken as study objects by using content analysis. Based on Zang Guoren's Three Levels of Frame Theory, original texts were coded for statistical analysis of each report's theme, genre, schematic structure, characters, rhetorical context, form, page views, likes and wows. In the end, the study explored characteristics of different media, reflected on existing problems of science & technology communication, and made five suggestions for advancing integrated media reports on typical scientific figures in the new era, in order to accelerate to build China into an innovative country, as well as a science & technology giant.

In the act of encouraging more social forces to join in the construction of the scientific quality of citizens,science communication and science education are the two main lines,and modern media tools are the important means to make a success of the construction of the scientific quality of citizens. Abstract:Summary form only given. Since the 1990s began, profound changes have taken place in the world pattern, and the competition in science and technology is becoming the core of international strife. Therefore, R&D funds have become the essential condition so that a nation acquires long-term competitive advantage and international competitiveness. It is very important for a country to timely adjust its structure of R&D funds on the basis of its characters and national need. Based on this view, this paper compares the three aspects of structural transformation process, i.e. the structure of R&D funds by source, the structure of R&D funds by performing sector, and the structure of R&D funds by character of work in China and the US. The main conclusions are listed as follows: (1) the structure of R&D funds by source in the US has gone through three phases from government-dominance type to industry-dominance type since the 1960s. The same trend happened in many other developed countries. In contrast, the structure of R&D by source in China still belongs to typical government-dominance type. (2) The structure of R&D funds by performing sector in the US and many developed countries turned traditional “single-assistant” type into “double-assistant” type in order to fit the new technology-economy paradigm shift. However, in China the structure of R&D by performing sector just pertains to an institute's dominance far away from single-assistant type. (3) The structure of R&D funds by character of work in the US stresses the stability of R&D system and has a high share of basic research. But basic research in China is very weak

Abstract:Audience research has gotten outstanding achievement in the communication research filed in China. However,today's audience research does not seem to continue such achievement,but lack in breakthroughs of new theory on the whole.At the beginning of audience research in China,with the purpose of press reform,the early researchers chose an orientation of scientism.Not long afterwards,as the present of decision - making value and market value,practical research became the mainstream.Audience research in China has on one hand lost ability of theoretical creativity out of over stress on the decision - making and market value of research,on the other hand lost in straits of theoretical ceasing out of blind worship on formalism practical research.Audience research will gain breakthrough providing that it not only avoid administration - ism and merchandise - ism,abandon purpose of instrumental reason,but also get rid of blind worship on scientism,and further strengthen the understanding and interpretation of humanism tradition.

In China, the official operation has always been in a more prominent position due to the influence of the special political system In this paper, we analyze the complicated relationship between disseminators and utilizers of science, as well as their limitation and reflexivity in the social context with Brian Wynne’s Reflexivity Model, and pay more attention to the status of official operation, based on a case study of soil testing and formulated fertilization popularization in a county of Inner Mongolia.

Abstract:Nowadays popularization of science(PS) has been embodying its own rules and characteristics.Contrary to the old notion that scientists should act the subordinate role of the PS,this paper shows that the diversity and specialization trend of subjects of PS is unavoidable,especially due to the mass media development in this scientific and democratic society,and so the traditional role of scientists in the popularization activity of science would also be changed accordingly.Based on the general communication model of mass media,this paper first provides a new communication model showing the role changes in modern PS.Then the paper divides the scientist into two kinds: individual and group,and discusses their different roles in PS.As a result of the division the paper suggests a practical way for evaluating the role in PS today.
