Abstract:Public's demand for green space is becoming stronger in order to get aesthetic enjoyment, recreation, and access to clean air or quiet environment. Besides that green space can protect biodiversity, absorb pollutants and mitigate urban heat island in term of physical affects. Available and attractive green space is supposed to be a useful measure to keep the quality of city life. Based on GIS analysis, this paper discussed the method of assess the accessibility of urban green space, especially the paper focused on selecting and quantifying of affecting factors and construction of functions to calculate the accessibility indicator(Ai). Taking Beijing city as an example, SPOT imagery data in three periods were used to acquire information of green space to assessment its accessibility. Instead of describing the radius of green space services, accessibility was used to assess the capacity and chance of inhabitants to approach green space in Beijing city, which was divided into regular grids with the size of 500 meters. For each green space, the resistance for each grid's accessing was calculated regarding to qualified factors, including attraction of green space, distribution of population, land use pattern, traffic cost. Then the whole urban green space's accessibility was accumulated by the sum of all green space's computing results. With the support of GIS, the results can visually show urban planners the state of accessibility's spatial distribution and support them with reasonable analysis. Firstly land use map of Beijing city in three periods was generated based on SPOT2 with 10m spatial resolution in 1986, SPOT4 with 10m spatial resolution in 1996 and SPOT5 with 2.5m panchromatic spatial resolution in 2004, including the
