The effectiveness evaluation of mothers' childcare knowledge and health education activities in 3 provinces of China

Abstract:Objective To carry out process evaluation and effectiveness evaluation of maternal health education program,and to explore appropriate maternal and children health interventions. Methods Data for process evaluation was obtained by provincial health education activities record collection;effectiveness evaluation adopted within-respondents comparison to compare the results between baseline survey and evaluation survey,with cluster sampling. Results Except for slogan posted,interventions were conducted differently among three provinces.After interventions,mothers' childcare knowledge was significantly improved from 61.4% to 80.0% in Sichuan Province and from 42.1% to 83.8% in Shaanxi Province(P<0.05),the awareness rate of child care knowledge among the mothers increased from 45.9% to 48.7%,whereas which was no significant improvement in Gansu Province(P>0.05);the intervention effective indices among three provinces were all greater than 1,with highest in Shaanxi(1.99),and followed by Sichuan(1.30) and Gansu(1.06).The more extensive coverage of health education backbone door-to-door interview and slogans was,the better of health intervention effectiveness to health knowledge(P<0.05).Conclusion Health education backbone door-to-door interview and slogans posted had a positive effect on the improvement of target population's health knowledge,which should be popularized to maternal and children health education programs in the future.
