Protective effects of Simvastatin on rat kidney with renal ischemia-reperfusion injury

Abstract:Objective To investigate the protective effect of Simvastatin on kidney with ischemia-reperfusion injury(IRI).Methods Rat renal ischemia-reperfusion injury model was established,and all rats were divided into the Simvastatin group,IR group,ZnPP group and sham group randomly.Contents of blood urea nitrogen(BUN),serum creatinine(Cr) were exam ined.The expression of HO-1 was detected by immunohistochemical method.While structure of kidney was observed by light microscopy.Results The levels of BUN and Cr in the IR and ZnPP groups were significantly higher;the HO-1 pro tein level was less expression or hardly expression than those in the Simvastatin group(P < 0.05);while structure of renal organization disordered in the IR and ZnPP groups.Conclusion Simvastatin can increase the expression of HO-1,lighten IRI kidney in Wistar rats.
