Economic Analysis on Relationship Between Seafood Safety Standard and International Trade

Abstract:Increasing globalization of our seafood supply combined with recent outbreaks of food borne disease has heightened concerns over seafood safety issues around the globe.In response to these growing concerns,many nations are implementing strict seafood safety standard as a means to protect consumers.In this article,first,author discusses the function of the seafood safety standard to resolve the asymmetric information problem and externality problem between firms and consumers,second,this paper describes the trade frictions and consequences of trade conflicts due to different countries having different seafood safety standard.Last,the author gives some suggestions about how to deal with the trade confliction bring from the different seafood safety standard.
