Abstract:The chemical pesticides have played important roles in controlling pests,reducing the hazards and ensuring food security,while long-term irrational use of chemicals resulted in many disadvantages such as 3R problem (Resistance,Residue and Resurgence).This paper reviewed the research and application technologies of ‘Green Plant Protection’ on pest management in paddy fields in China based on reducing the initial population size of rice insect pests,decreasing population growth rate of rice insect pests,increasing environmental resistance to insect pests in rice-based ecosystem,application of biological control agents and chemical control for emergency.A suitable green control technology system should be set up in different places by selection of different technologies based on local conditions,climatic conditions and characteristics of rice pests.Then,it is encouraged to promote the application of the suitable green control technology system with demonstration area construction and multiform,multi-level training to cater to the aim of reduction in chemical insecticide use and damage by rice insect pests.

Abstract:The quarantine management information system of importing forest propagative materials and ornamental plants consisted of two sub-systems:the quarantine data input and intelligent inquiry sub-systems.A total of 434 kinds of quarantine pests,1363 records of host plants and the atlas of 50 species of pests distributing in 314 countries and (areas) was recorded in the system.The dangerous pests that may be carried by importing plants could be queried according to the host's Chinese or Latin names,and so did the species of quarantive pests distributing locally according to the countries and (areas) and so on.The system was operated and refreshed easily and quickly.It took an intelligent management on quarantine information,quarantine examination and approval or the grant of (quarantine) certificates.The system could provide rapid query serve of quarantine information for (quarantine) organizations to import forest propagative materials and ornamental plants.The efficacy of examination and approval can be further improved.

Abstract:Research and application of botanical pesticides, including plant chem ical defense, botanical pesticides, plant protestants, and tropical plant pestic ides are briefly reviewed. The research and application of botanical bactericide s and botanical herbicides are far less intensive and extensive compared with th e botanical insecticides. However, current researches indicates that a wide rang e of plants had the capacity of controlling weeds, bacteria and fungi. There is, therefore, a great prospect to exploit plant resources to develop bactericides, fungicides and herbicides.

Abstract:Chemical pesticides play crucial roles in the management of crop diseases and pests. However, excessive and irrational use of pesticides has become a major concern and obstacle to sustainable agriculture. As a result, the quality and security of agricultural products are reduced, and the ecological and environmental integrities are threatened. Recently, environment-friendly pest management measures have been introduced and adopted to manage rice insect pests and reduce the use of insecticides. This paper reviewed the advancements in development and application of non-chemicaltechnologies for insect pest management during rice production in China.

Abstract:Environmentally friendly technologies for the prevention and control of crop diseases and insect pests are important to reduce the use of chemical pesticides, improve the quality of agricultural products, protect the environment, and promote sustainable development of crop production. On the basis of Internet of Things (IoT) technology, we developed a prevention and control system for crop diseases and insect pests with two main components: a plant protection device (the hardware) and an information management system (the software). To be suitable for both facility- and field-based production scenarios, we incorporated two types of plant protection devices, utilizing ozone sterilization and light-trap technologies. The devices were equipped with various sensors to realize real-time collection and monitoring of data on the crop production environment. The information management system has an IoT-based architecture and includes a mobile device app to enable remote control of the plant protection devices for intelligent management of plant protection data. The system can achieve efficient management of large-scale equipment applications and multi-device collaborative work to prevent and control pests and diseases. The developed system has operated successfully for several years in China and has been applied to cucumber, tomato, rice, and other crops. We demonstrate the effectiveness and practicality of the system in a greenhouse facility and in the field.

Abstract:Since the 1st green revolution,pest problems were getting more serious as significant reduction of natural regulation function in rice ecosystem resulted from susceptible high yielding varieties and heavy use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in large areas.To reduce pest problems,technology and strategies for pest management have been going through four phases,chemical control,primary integrated pest control,pest management and ecological engineering.However,new problems including serious yield losses caused by small insects,simultaneous outbreaks of multiple diseases,succession of weeds and genetic resistant problems although heavy yield losses have been retrieved.In order to accomplish the sustainable intensified agriculture,plant protection workers should work together with scientists in other disciplines to enhance natural regulating functions in rice ecosystems,coordinated innovation to develop new technology and management system for implementing green plant protection strategies from the view of healthy rice ecosystems.

Abstract:Chemical plant protection, which refers to using plant protection machinery sprays chemical pesticides, is the most important technology for pest and disease control at present, an important technical guarantee for food security, and also is essential for safeguarding agricultural production. Pesticide, spray technology and plant protection machinery are called the three pillars of chemical plant protection, which having been becoming a hot research topic in the world. Efficient, precise and intelligent spray technology and equipment can provide guarantee for the improvement of pesticide efficacy and utilization. With the issues of agricultural product safety and environmental protection getting more and more attention from the public, the research and development direction of Chinese plant protection field will gradually turn to intelligent and precision spraying technology and equipment. Since 2010 year, the great development potential and application value of intelligent and precision spraying technologies and equipment have been widely recognized worldwide. In this article, the main precision spraying technologies were reviewed, the research status, typical representative and application progress of plant protection equipment in different working scenarios were classified and summarized. The challenges in the development of precision spraying were analyzed, the countermeasures and suggestions were put forward. This research can provide new methods and new ideas not only for implementation of China's pesticide reduction plan, the promotion of intelligent plant protection equipment and precision spraying technology, but for the development of modern agriculture.

Abstract:Plant immunology studies interactions between plants and pathogenic organisms. Like animals, plants possess a powerful innate immune system, which recognizes pathogenic organisms including viruses, bacteria, fungi, oomycetes, nematodes, insects and parasitic weeds to mount a series of defenses to fend off invading pathogens. Pathogens can evade or overcome host immune systems to cause diseases and damage on host plants. Over the last two decades, China has made great strides in plant immunity research and contributed significantly to multiple areas of studies. These advances shed new light on the development of effective technologies for sustainable control of pests in agriculture.

Abstract:With the rapid development of economic globalization, invasive species have become a far-reaching global issue. Impacts of invasive insects on agriculture, forestry, ecology, socio-economy and human health are becoming increasingly serious and cause for concern. In this paper, we introduce advances in theoretical and applied research on 14 invasive insects in China and summarize novel theory, methods and recent progress. Perspectives and directions for future research on invasive insects are discussed. The results provide new insights for the early warning, prevention, detection, monitoring, management, and control, of invasive insects.

Abstract:There are many different kinds of crop pests widely distributed in China, which are very complex in occurrence and difficult in prevention and control. They may outbreak suddenly, causing serious damages to crops, and thereby have a significant impact on food security and safety. In the past 70 years, the development of basic research in plant protection in China has made great progress and profound changes, starting from simple agricultural intervention measures to current integrated, biologically-based and environment-friendly protection measures to effectively prevent and control crop pests. These measures are mainly dependent on the progress of innovation in the following fields: better understanding of the epidemic and migration patterns of major crop pests and diseases, elucidation on mechanisms for causing damages to crop by pests, discovery of novel technology and products for control of crop diseases and pests, and establishment of surveillance, early warning and control systems for management of crop pests. With the improvement of the scientific and technological progress in plant protection, the innovation of the future plant protection research will focus on discovery of new epidemic pattern for crop pests; establishment of effective pest detection, monitoring and early warning system; development of green and effective pesticides, biological control products. Thus, sustainable management of crop pests and disease could be reached at local, regional and global levels. In conclusion, development of a full-scale national plant protection technical support system would meet the requirements of the food security and safety and natural environment and contribute to the global Sustainable Development Goals.
[Research progress in chemical communication among insect-resistant genetically modified plants, insect pests and natural enemies]

Abstract:Semiochemicals released by plants or insects play an important role in the communication among plants, phytophagous insects and their natural enemies. They thus form a chemical information network which regulates intra- and inter-specific behaviors and sustains the composition and structure of plant and insect communities. The application of insect-resistant genetically modified (IRGM) crops may affect the chemical communication within and among the tritrophic levels, and thus cause disturbances to the biotic community structure and the stability of the farmland ecosystem. This has raised concerns about the environmental safety of IRGM crops and triggered research worldwide. In the current article we provided a brief summary of the chemical communication among plants, herbivores and natural enemies; analyzed the potential of IRGM crops to affect the chemical communication between plants and arthropods and the related mechanisms; and discussed the current research progress and the future prospects in this field. We hope that this will promote the research in this field by Chinese scientists and increase our understanding of the potential effects of growing of IRGM crops on the arthropod community structure.

Abstract:Abstract China is one of the world’s agricultural development powers, vegetables in agriculture is worthy of the majority of planting. With the improvement of people’s living standard, “eating Chinese cabbage” has become the focus of people’s general attention. This paper mainly studies the analysis of the pollution-free cultivation techniques of leaf vegetables under the information background. Aiming at the defects of the existing vegetable cultivation expert system in protected areas, such as single function and several vegetables, the vegetable network expert system for disaster mitigation and cultivation has no public cellar, and the design and implementation of the system are introduced. The development of the system is oriented towards the majority of agricultural technicians and farmers, and provides them with a service platform for the safe production of vegetables in protected areas, the identification and prevention of major diseases and insect pests, scientific management, and so on, has a strong practical value and development prospects of grassroots.

Abstract:The early warning technology of crop diseases and insect pests is a strong guarantee to respond to the increasingly dire situation of major pests and diseases and ensure national food security. At present, the method of the monitoring data collection about the information of diseases and insect pests mainly relies on a field visit carried out by the plant protection staff, sampling and analysis, which directly impacts on the accuracy of early warning analysis. Firstly, the research status of the early warning analysis technology of crop diseases and insect pests in the field of agricultural are investigated and studied thoroughly and deeply, and then the comparison and analysis of the mainstream technology for pest and disease warning and algorithms are done in detail. The final combination of the technology of the Internet of things, a better pest early warning solution of the facility agriculture is put forward in order to provide a useful reference for the study of the early warning of crop pests.
