Abstract:Ru-SUNPHOS catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of a variety of sulfonyl ketones (R = alkyl, aryl) in the presence of iodine gave enantioenriched hydroxyl sulfones with good catalytic efficiency. Further investigation revealed that the in situ generated anhydrous HI is the operating additive.
