Abstract:The ground entanglement and thermal entanglement in quantum mixed spin chains consisting of two integer spins 1 and two half integer spins 1/2 arrayed as ${1/2}-{1/2}-1-1$ in a unit cell with antiferromagnetic nearest-neighbor couplings $J_1$($J_2$) between the spins of equal (different) magnitudes, are investigated by adopting the log-negativity. The ground entanglement transition found here is closely related with the valence bond state transition, and the thermal entanglement near the critical point is calculated and shown that two distinct behaviors exist in the nearest neighbor same kind of spins and different kind of spins, respectively. The potential application of our results on the quantum information processing is also discussed.

Abstract:We investigate the entanglement of a three-level atom in Λ configuration interacting with two quantized field modes by using logarithmic negativity. Then, we study the relationship of the atomic coherence and the entanglement between two fields which are initially prepared in vacuum or thermal states. We find that if the two fields are prepared in thermal states,the atomic coherence can induce the entanglement between two thermal fields. However, there is no coherence-induced entanglement between two vacuum fields.

Abstract:Dynamical behaviour of entanglement between the cavity mode and a three-level atom in the Xi configuration is studied by making use of log-negativity. The influence of initial temperature of the thermal field and detuning on the entanglement is investigated. It is found that the maximal values of entanglement decreases with the temperature of the thermal field and can be controlled by the detuning.

Abstract:We study the two qubits Heisenberg XX chain with magnetic impurity in the presence of the external magnetic field and calculate the optimal fidelity of standard teleportation via the thermal equilibrium state. It is found that the combined influence of magnetic impurity and external magnetic field can increase the critical temperatures of entanglement and quantum teleportation without limit. The relation between two kinds of critical temperatures is revealed.
Hyperfine and Zeeman interactions in ultracold collisions of molecular hydrogen with atomic lithium

Abstract:We present a rigorous quantum scattering study of the effects of hyperfine and Zeeman interactions on cold Li - H$_{2}$ collisions in the presence of an external magnetic field using a recent ab initio potential energy surface. We find that the low-field-seeking states of H$_{2}$ predominantly undergo elastic collisions: the ratio of elastic-to-inelastic collisions exceeds 100 for collision energies below 1.5 K. Furthermore, we demonstrate that most inelastic collisions conserve the space-fixed projection of the nuclear spin. We show that the anisotropic hyperfine interaction between the nuclear spin of H$_{2}$ and the electron spin of Li can have a significant effect on inelastic scattering in the ultracold regime, as it mediates two processes: the electron spin relaxation in lithium, and the nuclear spin - electron spin exchange. Given the predominance of elastic collisions and the propensity of inelastic collisions to retain H$_{2}$ in its low-field-seeking states, our results open up the possibility of sympathetic cooling of molecular hydrogen by atomic lithium, paving the way for future exploration of ultracold collisions and high-precision spectroscopy of H$_{2}$ molecules.

Magnetic field control of elastic scattering in a cold gas of fermionic lithium atoms

Abstract:We study elastic collisions in an optically trapped spin mixture of fermionic lithium atoms in the presence of magnetic fields up to 1.5kG by measuring evaporative loss. Our experiments confirm the expected magnetic tunability of the scattering length by showing the main features of elastic scattering according to recent calculations. We measure the zero crossing of the scattering length that is associated with a predicted Feshbach resonance at 530(3)G. Beyond the resonance we observe the expected large cross section in the triplet scattering regime.

Abstract:We study the spin distribution and macroscopic entanglement in spinor condensates confined in an anisotropic potential under external magnetic fields. Different types of magnetic phases can be reached by tuning the magnetic dipolar interaction strength by modifying the trapping geometry. We investigate the atom-number fluctuations of the ground state and show that the different internal hyperfine states exhibit super-Poissonian, Poissonian, and sub-Poissonian distributions with different trapping geometries and strengths of the external magnetic field. We also propose a scheme to create a macroscopic maximally entangled spin state by slowly sweeping the external magnetic field.

Abstract:We investigate entanglement properties in dimerized and frustrated spin-one models by applying the concept of negativity. On the basis of the relation between negativity and correlators, negativities are numerically calculated. We study the effects of dimerization and frustration on entanglement. We also consider the case of finite temperature, and determine the threshold temperature before which the thermal state is doomed to be entangled.

Abstract:The generation and evolution of entanglement in quantum many-body systems is an active area of research that spans multiple fields, from quantum information science to the simulation of quantum many-body systems encountered in condensed matter, subatomic physics, and quantum chemistry. Motivated by recent experiments exploring quantum information processing systems with electrons trapped above the surface of cryogenic noble gas substrates, we theoretically investigate the generation of \emph{motional} entanglement between two electrons via their unscreened Coulomb interaction. The model system consists of two electrons confined in separate electrostatic traps which establish microwave frequency quantized states of their motion. We compute the motional energy spectra of the electrons, as well as their entanglement, by diagonalizing the model Hamiltonian with respect to a single-particle Hartree product basis. This computational procedure can in turn be employed for device design and guidance of experimental implementations. In particular, the theoretical tools developed here can be used for fine tuning and optimization of control parameters in future experiments with electrons trapped above the surface of superfluid helium or solid neon.

Thermal Entanglement Versus Mixture in a Spin Chain: Generation of Maximally Entangled Mixed States

Abstract:We study the two-body entanglement and mixture in a three-qubit XXZ spin chain in thermal equilibrium state at temperature T with an external magnetic field B. The effects of the magnetic field, the anisotropy and the temperature on the entanglement and mixture are considered. We show that the ground states in this system are fully characterized and distinguished by both entanglement and mixture. Thermal entanglement versus the mixture of all two-spin states is investigated. All pairwise states provide an upper bound on the entanglement for a fixed mixture, and some part of the boundary reaches the boundary allowed by physics. As a result, maximally entangled mixed states can be generated by controlling magnetic field and temperature. Especially, in the ground state of the whole system, the explicit forms of maximally entangled mixed states are given. The results provide a new way to generate maximally entangled mixed states and control entanglement.
Penning collisions between supersonically expanded metastable helium atoms and laser-cooled lithium atoms

Abstract:We describe an experimental setup comprised of a discharge source for supersonic beams of metastable helium atoms and a magneto-optical trap (MOT) for ultracold lithium atoms that makes it possible to study Penning ionization and associative ionization processes at high ion count rates. The cationic reaction products are analyzed using a novel ion detection scheme which allows for mass selection, a high ion extraction efficiency and a good collision-energy resolution. The influence of elastic He-Li collisions on the steady-state Li atom number in the MOT is described, and the collision data are used to estimate the excitation efficiency of the discharge source. We also show that Penning collisions can be directly used to probe the temperature of the Li cloud without the need for an additional time-resolved absorption or fluorescence detection system.

Implementation of electromagnetic analogy to gravity mediated entanglement

Abstract:Recently, experiments aimed at measuring gravity mediated entanglement (GME) using quantum information techniques have been proposed, based on the assumption that if two systems get entangled through local interactions with gravitational field, then this field must be quantum. While there is a debate about what could be drawn from GME, quantum simulation might provide some clarification. Here, we present electromagnetic analogy of GME using magnetic-field mediated interaction between the electron and nucleus in a single atom. Our work successfully implements the general procedures of GME experiments and confirms that the mediating field does not support the mean-field description. It also clarifies that, without considering the light-crossing time, the GME experiment would not distinguish a quantum-field-theory description from a quantum-controlled classical field one. Furthermore, this work provides a novel method to construct two-qubit systems in a single atom, and providing the first quantum simulation of GME using material qubits. It helps to conceive the future GME experiments on the scale of light-crossing time.

Maximum Entangled State in Ultracold Spin-1 Mixture

Abstract:Inspired by the method that can deterministically generated the massive entanglement through phase transitions, we study the ground state properties of a spin-1 condensate mixture, under the premise that the heteronuclear spin-exchange collision is taken into account. We developed a effective model to analyze the binary-coupled two-level system and studied the ground state phase transitions. Three representative quantum states with the same number distribution are studied and distinguished through the number fluctuations. We demonstrate that there will be the GreenbergerHorne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state in the mixture if the the extra magnetic field is specifically selected or adiabatically adjusted. One advantage of preparing entangled states in mixtures is that we only need to adjust the external magnetic field, instead of considering the microwaves-magnetic cooperation. Finally we estimate the feasibility of experimentally generating the heteronuclear many-body entanglement in the alkali-metal atomic mixture.

Abstract:We calculate the entropy in a trapped, resonantly interacting Fermi gas as a function of temperature for a wide range of magnetic fields between the BCS and Bose-Einstein condensation end points. This provides a basis for the important technique of adiabatic sweep thermometry and serves to characterize quantitatively the evolution and nature of the excitations of the gas. The results are then used to calibrate the temperature in several ground breaking experiments on Li-6 and K-40.
Nuclear Quantum Effects on the High Pressure Melting of Dense Lithium

Abstract:Using a self-developed combination of the thermodynamic integration and the ab initio path-integral molecular dynamics methods, we quantitatively studied the influence of nuclear quantum effects (NQEs) on the melting of dense lithium at 45 GPa. We find that although the NQEs significantly change the free-energies of the competing solid and liquid phases, the melting temperature (Tm) is lowered by only ∼15 K, with values obtained using both classical and quantum nuclei in close proximity to a new experiment. Besides this, a substantial narrowing of the solid/liquid free-energy differences close to Tm was observed, in alignment with a tendency that glassy states might form upon rapid cooling. This tendency was demonstrated by the dynamics of crystallization in the two-phase simulations, which helps to reconcile an important conflict between two recent experiments. This study presents a simple picture for the phase diagram of lithium under pressure. It also indicates that claims on the influence of NQEs on phase diagrams should be carefully made and the method adopted offers a robust solution for such quantitative analyses.

Abstract:It is well known that the lithium diatomic molecule has important potential application in engineering, and industry. For this purpose, in this research, the thermal properties of the lithium diatomic molecule are theoretically calculated taking into account both an external magnetic field and Aharonov-Bohm (AB) flux. To this end, the interaction in the diatomic molecule is proposed as an improved Scarf ΙΙ potential model (ISPM). The Schrödinger equation is solved using an appropriate Pekeris-like approximation form for the centrifugal barrier and the energy spectrum and wave functions are obtained. Then, the partition function is obtained to study the thermal properties of the lithium dimer. The calculated thermal properties of 7 Li 2 (2 3 Π g ) in this work are mean energy, entropy, specific heat, enthalpy, and Gibbs free energy. Our theoretical results are also compared with the experimental data. The findings show that the obtained results are in good agreement with experimental data. Without considering the magnetic field and AB flux, the deviation of specific heat, Gibbs free energy, and enthalpy are 3.73%, 4.96%, and 5.31%, respectively. By considering the magnetic field and AB flux, we find that the deviation of the aforementioned properties are 1.91%, 2.04%, and 2.32%, respectively. Therefore, it is found that the external magnetic field and AB flux have great influences on the thermal properties of lithium.

Entanglement creation in cold molecular gases using strong laser pulses

Abstract:While many-particle entanglement can be found in natural solids and strongly interacting atomic and molecular gases, generating highly entangled states between weakly interacting particles in a controlled and scalable way presents a significant challenge. We describe here a one-step method to generate entanglement in a dilute gas of cold polar molecules. For molecules in optical traps separated by a few micrometers, we show that maximally entangled states can be created using the strong off-resonant pulses that are routinely used in molecular alignment experiments. We show that the resulting alignment-mediated entanglement can be detected by measuring laser-induced fluorescence with single-site resolution and that signatures of this molecular entanglement also appear in the microwave absorption spectra of the molecular ensemble. We analyze the robustness of these entangled molecular states with respect to intensity fluctuations of the trapping laser and discuss possible applications of the system for quantum information processing.

Abstract:Limited by the thermal environment, the entanglement of the massive object is extremely diffcult to be prepared. Based on the coherent scattering mechanism, we propose a scheme to generate the entanglement of two optically levitated nanospheres through the Coulomb interaction. Two nanospheres are charged and coupled with each other through the Coulomb interaction. In this manner, the entanglement of two nanospheres has been induced either under a weak/strong optomechanical coupling regime, or under an ultrastrong optomechanical coupling regime. The charges, radius, and distance of two nanospheres are taken into consideration to enhance the Coulomb interaction, thereby achieving a higher degree of the entanglement in the absence of the ground-state cooling. The corresponding maximum entanglement can be attained as the dynamics of the system approaches the boundary between the steady and the unsteady regime. It provides a useful resource for both quantum enhanced sensing and quantum information processing, as well as a new platform for studying the many-body physics.
