Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of species, age and feeding on intestinal flora of broilers.Method120 Beijing Fatty chickens and 120 AA broilers were randomly allocated to two feeding groups, being raised in cages or on ground, respectively. For each feeding style, there were five replicates consisting 12 chickens each.At the days 7,14,21 and 42,contents of the duodenum, ileum and cecum were collected sterilely to analyse the changes of intestinal flora.Result(1) Microbial species became increasingly diverse from the duodenum to cecum.Microbial species increased in the same segment of the intestine as the birds aged.Dominant microbes in duodenum and ileum were Lactobacillus planetarium and Bifidobacterium, and the main bacteria in cecum were Bacteroides and Clostridium. Moreover,Bacteroides in AA broilers were more than Beijing Fatty chickens.(2) Breed of chickens had no significant effects on the number of bands of duodenum and ileum, and the number of Beijing Fatty was bigger than AA broilers.Age of birds had significant effects on the number of bands of ileum. The interactions between breed, age, and feeding style had significant effect on the number of bands of ileum.(3) The similarity of the intestinal flora in the duodenum among treatments became stable at Day 42,and for ileum,at the Day 21.There were no marked changes in the similarity of the intestinal flora in the cecum among treatments from 7 to 42 day. Conclusion There are different species of microbials in different intestinal segments of broilers, and species, ages and feeding patterns have different effects on the intestinal microflora of broilers, however, the intestinal microflora tend to be stable with the aging of broilers.
