Evaluate on the effect of physical treatment on advanced shistosomiasis in 2007 in Tongling county

Abstract:Objective To understand the distribution of advanced shistosomiasis and the effect of physi-cal treatment, and provide basis and experience for the further implementation of advanced schistosomiasis medical assistance projects. Methods To collect cases data of advanced schistosomiasis on the physical treatment in the two designated hospitals in Tongling county. The related information was selected and analyzed. Re-sults A total of 196 cases treated in 2007 in the county, the male was 119 and the female was 77. The aver-age age of the cases was 55.13 years old, and the cases over 50 years old were 150,accounted for 76.53%. For the cases treated, 72 were ascitic type (36.73%), 122 cases were megalosplenia type (62.24%), 1 case was dwarf type and 1 case was colongranuloma type. The physical capacity of the patients was improved obviously by symptomatic and supported treatment, and the patients with normal physical capacity rose from 23.46% to 70.41%. 92% of patients were ascites dissipating after treatment. The liver function recovered remarkably, and the liver function by the classification of Child-pugh of A grade improved from 43.37% to 69.9%, B grade re-duced from 47.96% to 26.53%, C grade reduced from 8.67% to 3.57%. The clinically cured rate and the ef-fective rate were 56.12% and 96.43% respectively after physical treatment. Conclusion Physical treatment can significantly improve the quality of life and recover physical capacity for the patients with advanced schistoso-miasis.
