Abstract:In this article, we study the comparison principle and long-time behaviour of the solutions for a coupled system of semilinear periodic parabolic equations with discrete time delays and non-local boundary conditions. A new comparison principle is obtained for such a coupled system, which extends some existing results. Moreover, it is shown that for a given sector J(0) := {u; (u) over cap <= u <= (u) over tilde }, which is generated by the given upper and lower solutions (u) over cap and (u) over tilde of the corresponding non-local periodic parabolic system, the non-local periodic parabolic system has a maximal periodic solution (u) over bar (T) and a minimal periodic solution u(T) such that the omega - limit set of any trajectory of the delayed parabolic system in J(0) belongs to the sector J(T) := {u; (u) under bar (T) <= u <= (u) over bar (T)}. Applications to a Lotka-Volterra cooperating model in ecology are given.

Abstract:The transient probability densities of nonlinear multi-degree-of-freedom systems with time delay are investigated. The system is firstly approximated by the corresponding non-time-delay system through appropriate relations between the current states and the delay states. Stochastic averaging is adopted to reduce the dimension of the equivalent system, and the corresponding Fokker–Planck–Kolmogorov equation with regard to transient probability density is obtained. This equation is solved by expressing the transient probability density as multiple series in terms of a set of properly state-dependent orthogonal basis functions with time-dependent coefficients. Two examples are given to illustrate the accuracy and efficacy of the proposed procedure.

Abstract:In the present paper, we study a class of nonlinear time‐fractional pseudo‐parabolic equations with bounded time‐delay. Firstly, we analyze the well‐posedness of the problem by the well‐known Galerkin's method and some compactness criteria. Next, the existence of the stationary solutions is established by utilizing a lemma of ours, which is a corollary of the Brouwer fixed point theorem. Finally, with regard to the stability analysis of the stationary solutions, we prove the local stability via the direct method of energy estimations and show the asymptotic stability by the construction of appropriate Lyapunov functionals.

Abstract:This article is devoted to studying a new class of nonlinear coupled systems of fractional differential equations supplemented with nonlocal integro-coupled boundary conditions and affected by infinite delay. We first transform the boundary value problem into a fixed-point problem, and, with the aid of the theory of infinite delay, we assume an appropriate phase space to deal with the obtained problem. Then, the existence result of solutions to the given system is investigated by employing Schaefer's fixed-point theorem, while the uniqueness result is established in view of the Banach contraction mapping principle. The illustrative examples are constructed to ensure the availability of the main results.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the synchronization problem for Lur’e-type dynamical complex networks with time-varying delay. The problem of non-linear time-varying delayed Lur’e-type dynamical networks are changed into the corresponding stabilization situation of dynamical error systems. Based on the improved Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional, which utilizes the information of time-varying delay adequately, some new synchronization criteria are derived via a linear matrix inequality with different sector conditions. Furthermore, by using an eigenvalue-decoupling method, high-dimension criteria are decoupled into low-dimension ones and the complexity of the criterion computation is reduced. Then the numerical examples are carried out to demonstrate the applicability and effectiveness of the proposed work through simulations.
REVIEW ON NONLINEAR DYNAMICS IN SYSTEMS WITH COULPLING DELAYS

Abstract:With the deep understanding towards the objective laws of nature, requirements on refinement and complex-ity in engineering system design are increasing. Many coupled dynamic system designs need to take into account the dynamics induced by the time delay existing in the coupling process. Such coupling time delay may come from the process of coupling with the sensing system, the actuation system and the control system. Coupling delays also exten-sively exist in the fields such as transportation system, system biology, electronic communication, neural and information networks and etc. Firstly, based on the concept of coupling delay, this paper reviews the recent research progresses on dynamics induced by such delay from the following four aspects:(1) the delay-centered mechanism of complex dynamics in coupled systems;(2) experimental foundation and realization of stabilizing coupled systems by utilizing time delay;(3) dynamics of fast-slow coupled system with time delay; and (4) synchronization and desynchronization of delayed neural networks. Some advances in the general theory of systems with coupling delay are highlighted including the coupling-delay-induced bifurcation and singularity with high codimention and the novel quantitative method of analysis, normal form computation for neutral delay differential equations, identification of time delay and nonlinear parameters in nonlinear systems with coupling delay and the relevant experiment, relaxation oscillation in the fast-slow system with coupling delay, and transition of modes of synchronization induced by coupling delay in network systems. Secondly, as for the application, some new results are presented in details such as the coupling-delay-induced chatter in grinding pro-cess and its mechanism, bifurcation with high codimension and complex dynamics induced by coupling delay in neural networks with inertial terms, and design and experiments of vibration absorber and isolator using coupling delay. Finally, some problems which are worthy of attention in near future are highlighted from perspectives of the general theory of systems with coupling delay and the potential applications.

Abstract:Two novel linear matrix inequality (LMI)-based stability criteria for the equilibrium point of cellular neural networks with constant time delay (DCNNs) are presented in this paper. The sufficient conditions of global asymptotic stability and global exponential stability are derived by employing a more general type of Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and S-Procedure technique. Furthermore, we represent the exponential stability condition as GEVP. On the other hand, the results are presented in the form of LMI, and hence are easy to be verified. It turns out that the results derived in this paper are less conservative and more efficient than the most published results in the literature.

Abstract:We establish interior Lipschitz regularity for continuous viscosity solutions of fully nonlinear, conformally invariant, degenerate elliptic equations. As a by-product of our method, we also prove a weak form of the strong comparison principle, which we refer to as the principle of propagation of touching points, for operators of the form $\nabla^2 \psi + L(x,\psi,\nabla \psi)$ which are non-decreasing in $\psi$.

Abstract:In this paper nonlinear boundary value problems for discontinuous delayed differential equations are considered. Some existence and boundedness results of solutions are obtained via the method of upper and lower solutions, which may be discontinuous. Our analysis can be applied to those phenomena from physics and control theory which have been successfully described by delayed differential equations with discontinuous functions, such as electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic networks. It is also an important step to precede the design of control signals when finite-time or practical stability control are concerned.

Abstract:This paper addresses the stability issue of delayed switched nonlinear systems whose subsystem is of the form ẋ(t)=A(t,x(t),xt−d(t))x(t)+B(t,x(t),xt−d(t))xt−d(t), that is, the system matrices depend on time and the present and past states. By means of a trajectory-based comparison approach, stability of original switched nonlinear system is transformed into that of a switched positive linear system called a comparison system. The involved delays are piecewise continuous and may be unbounded. The comparison switched system may consist of unstable subsystems. It is shown that if the comparison system is asymptotically or exponentially stable, then the original system is asymptotically or exponentially stable, globally or locally, depending on the domain chosen to form the comparison system.

Abstract:The main objective of this paper is analysis of the initial-boundary value problems for the linear and semilinear time-fractional diffusion equations with a uniformly elliptic spatial differential operator of the second order and the Caputo type fractional derivative acting in the fractional Sobolev spaces. The boundary conditions are formulated in form of the homogeneous Neumann or Robin conditions. First we deal with the uniqueness and existence of the solutions to these initial-boundary value problems. Then we show a positivity property for the solutions and derive the corresponding comparison principles. In the case of the semilinear time-fractional diffusion equation, we also apply the monotonicity method by upper and lower solutions. As an application of our results, we present some a priori estimates for solutions to the semilinear time-fractional diffusion equations.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a new class of delay differential variational inequalities. Delay differential variational inequalities with initial conditions have been already introduced and studied in literatures. The novelty of this work is to consider such problems with boundary conditions. In the first step, we prove a result on the existence of solutions for delay differential variational inequalities with boundary conditions. In the second step, we study the numerical aspect of the problem, where a numerical scheme is considered and the convergence analysis for the approach is provided. As an application, we consider dynamic Nash equilibrium with time delay. A numerical illustration is provided by considering the problem of optimal allocation of distributed generations.
