Abstract:Let A and B be two factor von Neumann algebras. For A, B∈A, define by [A,B]∗=AB-BA∗ the new product of A and B. In this paper, we prove that a nonlinear bijective map Φ:A→B satisfies Φ([A,B]∗)=[Φ(A),Φ(B)]∗ for all A,B∈A if and only if Φ is a *-ring isomorphism. In particular, if the von Neumann algebras A and B are type I factors, then Φ is a unitary isomorphism or a conjugate unitary isomorphism.

Abstract:In this paper, it is shown that every nonlinear bijective map ψ preserving mixed Jordan triple η -products with η≠−1 from a factor von Neumann algebra M with dim M>1 into another factor von Neumann algebra N with dim N>1 is additive. Also, for α∈{−1,1} , we establish that αψ is a linear *-isomorphism, and is a conjugate linear *-isomorphism only when η∈R .

Abstract:Let $\eta\neq -1$ be a non-zero complex number, and let $\phi$ be a not necessarily linear bijection between two von Neumann algebras, one of which has no central abelian projections preserving the Jordan $\eta$-$\ast$-$n$-product. It is showed that $\phi$ is a linear $\ast$-isomorphism if $\eta$ is not real and $\phi$ is the sum of a linear $\ast$-isomorphism and a conjugate linear $\ast$-isomorphism if $\eta$ is real.

Abstract:Let A and B be (not necessarily unital or closed) standard operator algebras on complex Banach spaces X and Y, respectively. For a bounded linear operator A on X, the peripheral spectrum sigma(pi)(A) of A is defined by sigma(pi)(A) = {z is an element of sigma(A) : vertical bar z vertical bar = max(w is an element of sigma(A)) vertical bar w vertical bar}, where s (A) denotes the spectrum of A. Assume that F : A. B is a map and the range of F contains all operators with rank at most two. It is proved that the map F satisfies the condition that sigma(pi)(Phi(A)Phi(B) + Phi(B)Phi(A))= sigma(pi)(AB+ BA) for all A, B is an element of A if and only if either there exists an invertible operator T is an element of B(X, Y) such that Phi(A) = epsilon TAT(-1) for every A is an element of A; or X and Y are reflexive and there exists an invertible operator T. B(X*, Y) such that F(A) = eTA*T-1 for every A is an element of A, where epsilon is an element of{1,-1}. Furthermore, the same conclusion holds if A and B are replaced by standard real Jordan algebras of self-adjoint operators on complex Hilbert spaces. If X and Y are complex Hilbert space, we characterize also maps preserving the peripheral spectrum of the product AB* + B* A, and prove that such maps are of the form A bar right arrow gamma UAU* or A bar right arrow gamma A(t)U*, where U is an element of B(X, Y) is a unitary operator and gamma is an element of C with vertical bar gamma vertical bar = 1, A(t) denotes the transpose of A for an arbitrary but fixed orthonormal basis of X.

Abstract:Let A be a standard operator algebra on a complex Hilbert space H of dimension greater than 2. By invariants of certain functional values of operator products, we characterize some surjective maps on A. Furthermore, several kinds of general preserver problems on standard operator algebras are solved when we take respectively the functional as, for example, k-numerical radius (k⩾1), operator norm, Ky Fan k-norm, Schatten p-norm (1⩽p<∞), and so on.

Abstract:In this paper, we study additive maps f:A→A on an alternative Cayley-Dickson algebra A satisfying the product preserving property: f(x)f(y)=m whenever xy = k , where k and m are constant elements of A . We prove that f may be written as a multiple of a Jordan homomorphism. Unlike in the associative case, Jordan homomorphisms of strictly alternative division rings need not be homomorphisms or anti-homomorphisms, but we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for this to occur. We then extend these ideas to split alternative Cayley-Dickson algebras of characteristic not 2 and present some open questions when k or m is noninvertible. The final section handles the problem k=m=0 and generalizes to biadditive maps that preserve the zero product.

Abstract:Let A be a factor von Neumann algebra and Phi be a nonlinear surjective map from A onto itself. We prove that, if Phi satisfies that Phi(A)Phi(B) - Phi(B)Phi(A)* = AB - BA* for all A, B is an element of A, then there exist a linear bijective map Psi: A -> A satisfying Psi(A)Psi(B) - Psi(B)Psi(A)* = AB - BA* for A, B is an element of A and a real functional h on A with h(0) = 0 such that Phi(A) = Psi(A) + h(A)I for every A is an element of A. In particular, if A is a type I factor, then, Phi(A) = cA + h(A)I for every A is an element of A, where c = +/- 1.

Abstract:In this paper, we give some characterisations of homomorphisms on von Neumann algebras by linear preservers. We prove that a bounded linear surjective map from a von Neumann algebra onto another is zero-product preserving if and only if it is a homomorphism multiplied by an invertible element in the centre of the image algebra. By introducing the notion of tr-rank of the elements in finite von Neumann algebras, we show that a unital linear map from a linear subspace ℳ of a finite von Neumann algebra ℛ into ℛ can be extended to an algebraic homomorphism from the subalgebra generated by ℳ into ℛ; and a unital self-adjoint linear map from a finite von Neumann algebra onto itself is completely tr-rank preserving if and only if it is a spatial *-automorphism.

Abstract:We show that every unital invertibility preserving linear map from a von Neumann algebra onto a semi-simple Banach algebra is a Jordan homomorphism; this gives an affirmative answer to a problem of Kaplansky for all von Neumann algebras. For a unital linear map Φ from a semi-simple complex Banach algebra onto another, we also show that the following statements are equivalent: (1) Φ is an homomorphism; (2) Φ is completely invertibility preserving; (3) Φ is 2-invertibility preserving.

Abstract:Let A and B be standard operator algebras on infinite dimensional complex Banach spaces X and Y, respectively, and let Φ be an additive surjection from A onto B. We prove that if Φ is unital and preserves any one of (left, right) invertibility, (left, right) zero divisors, (left, right) topological divisors of zero, quasi-affinity, injectivity, surjectivity, range density, lower-boundedness and left (right) maximal ideals in both directions, then it has one of the following forms: isomorphism, conjugate isomorphism, anti-isomorphism and conjugate anti-isomorphism. We also show that Φ preserves zero products in both directions if and only if Φ is either an isomorphism or a conjugate isomorphism.

Abstract:Let A and B be unital C~*-algebras, s ∈A and t ∈ B be invertible self-adjoint elements. For every x ∈ A and z ∈B, define x~+=s~(-1)x~*s and z~+=t~(-1)z~*t. Assume that A is of real rank zero and φ: A→B is a bounded linear surjection. This paper shows that, x~+y=0 φ(x)~+φ(y)=0 and xy~+=0 φ(x)φ(y)~+=0 for any x, y ∈ A, if and only if φ(1) is invertible, φ(1)~+φ(1)=φ(1)φ(1)~+ ∈(B) (the center of B) and there exists a surjective +-homomorphism ψ(i.e., ψ is a homomorphism and ψ(x~+)=ψ(x)~+, x ∈A) from A onto B such that φ(x)=φ(1)ψ(x) for all x ∈A. For general C~*-algebra cases, a similar result is obtained for orthogonality preservers under an additional assumption that φ(1) is invertible.
