Empirical Analysis on the Impact of FDI on China Regional Technical Progress

Abstract:Based on the new economic growth theory, this paper makes use of the endogenous growth model to measure technical progress, which is classified into two categories: direct technology injection and technology spillover. Meantime, variables such as human resource, domestic innovation, and degree of openness are introduced to establish the most fitting models for the east, middle and west areas of China separately. In this way, the paper demonstrates the impact of FDI on China regional technical progress. The results indicate that direct technology injection effect of FDI is positive in the east and middle, but negative in the west. While technology spillover is insignificant in the east, positive in the middle and west through labors of higher education and secondary education respectively.
