Abstract:Vector four-wave mixing (FWM) plays a crucial role in optical parametric amplification, optical wavelength conversion, supercontinuum generation, and optical frequency combs. Here, we investigate the polarization dependence in vector FWM excited by ultrafast lasers with wavelength-resolved polarization structures, by performing single-shot, wavelength-resolved polarization measurements. A dissipative soliton with wavelength-resolved polarization structure and a continuous wave laser as pump lights, are used to excite vector FWM and cascaded FWM in nonlinear fiber. Based on a home-made high-speed polarization analyzer, we verify experimentally that the polarization of Stokes light generated by vector FWM is wavelength-dependent. Besides, when the first-order Stokes light with the polarization structure participates in the second-order cascaded FWM, we observe significant polarization destabilization for the second-order Stokes light. The experimental data proves that the polarization-sensitive characteristics of vector FWM can be manifested as differences in Stokes light generation efficiency and polarization distribution stability. Our works provide more information about the nonlinear optical conversion process based on ultrafast lasers, deepen the understanding of the coherence degradation in supercontinuum generation, chaos formation, and demonstrate the possibility of generation ultrafast lasers with even more complex polarization structures, optimization of optical parametric amplification, et al.
