Abstract:Packaging design has become a critical tool for marketers and producers in the wine industry. Consumer behavior is influenced by the effectiveness of design and development strategies, and therefore the study focuses on the changes in the packaging design of Maotai wine. This study intends to explore the evolution of Maotai wine packaging design in Maotai Town, Guizhou, China, known as the production site of Maotai wine. To satisfy the objectives of the study, a qualitative study was developed so that researchers could gain an in-depth understanding of the phenomenon. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with designers and marketers in Maotai Town, Guizhou, China. This flexible approach allowed the evaluation of the perceptions of key stakeholders in the design and marketing of Maotai wine can be captured. The findings of the study offer substantial insights and strategies which can be applied to the design of culturally significant products. The findings offer insights into the overall strategy and vision used by Maotai in the packaging and preparation of Maotai wine. This study, therefore, intended to contribute to a broader understanding of the significance of packaging design along with shedding light on the factors that have impacted Maotai wine packaging design over the years, such as innovation, tradition, and consumers.

Abstract:In recent years, the strong growth of cultural and creative industries has led to its occupying an increasingly important position in the social economy. The inheritance and development of traditional art forms are one of the most important sources of materials for the cultural and creative industries. Product packaging is an important part of visual communication. Under the influence of the rapid development of cultural and creative industries, packaging design has a new development trend. In addition to satisfying basic functions such as protection and transportation, today's packaging design has also been endowed with some new connotations. The article analyzes the development status and outstanding problems of Chinese packaging design. Combined with the significance of cultural and creative industries to packaging design, innovative explorations were carried out on various elements in the process of packaging design. The study found that in the analysis of the contribution of cultural and creative industries to the economy, the cultural and creative industries of City A have been showing a growth trend since 2015. And among the design concepts of environmental protection, emotional attention, and integration of Chinese and Western design concepts selected in packaging design, more than 80% of consumers agree to integrate environmental protection concepts into packaging design. A total of 67% of the public are in favor of incorporating the concept of emotional care into the design. A total of 54% of the public agree with the design concept of combining Chinese and Western. Understanding the preferences of customers is beneficial to making packaging design a highlight of product sales.

Abstract:Tea has been a popular beverage since ancient time and accumulated a great deal of culture. In modern society, tea packaging design attracts a lot of attention. How to reflect the integration of traditional culture and modern culture from the perspectives of shape, pattern and color and cater to consumers needs at home and abroad and make the tea packaging fun has become the key of tea packaging design. The important function of packaging is to attract consumers’ attention and trigger their desire to buy the product. Through the visual design of packaging, it is a vital way to reflect the quality of tea, as well as increase the value of goods. Highlighting the characteristics of tea is the fundamental purpose of packaging. The color, pattern and text attribution are essential element in packaging, meanwhile it conveys the product information. The application of color, pattern and text and other factors in the study make the tea more competitive. It exchanges information between tea and consumer. Good tea packaging can not only improve sales, but also enhance the brand image, and expand spread of traditional tea culture.

Abstract:Sustainability is one of the main goals of the development policy and is also progressively gaining importance in the wine industry. The peculiar draught wine market is also strongly influenced by it. The current competitive conditions of the sector and the evolution of consumption styles have led to an increasing need for more accurate management strategies and analysis activities to determine the performance of wineries. This study aims to analyse both the environmental and the economic concerns of a commercial development strategy carried out by an Italian winery that is using three packaging formats (glass bottle, one way PET keg, and reusable steel keg) in the sale of Falanghina PGI wine in three different markets areas (domestic, Italy; regional, Germany; and international, USA). The assessment of the environmental and economic impact of the different formats on the three scenarios through an LCA and LCC analysis shows that the economic and environmental sustainability of packaging types can vary significantly depending on the market destinations. Nevertheless, the results show that PET, and especially reusable materials such as steel, can lead to a marked reduction in impacts on the market for tapped wine.

Abstract:Wine is a high-value alcoholic beverage welcomed by consumers because of its flavor and nutritional value. The key information on wine bottle label is the basis of consumers' choice, which also becomes a target for manufacturers to adulterate, including geographical origin, grape variety and vintage. With the improvement of wine adulteration technology, modern technological means are needed to solve the above mentioned problems. The chemical basis of wine determines the type of technique used. Detection technology can be subdivided into four groups: mass spectrometry techniques, spectroscopic techniques, chromatography techniques, and other techniques. Multivariate statistical analysis of the data was performed by means of chemometrics methods. This paper outlines a series of procedures for wine classification and identification, and classified the analytical techniques and data processing methods used in recent years with listing their principles, advantages and disadvantages to help wine researchers choose appropriate methods to meet the challenge and ensure wine traceability and authenticity.

Abstract:The object of the study is the design of tea gift packaging in China. The subject of the study is the problem of developing the design of tea gift packaging in modern Chinese design. During the consideration of the topic, such issues as the degree of study of the issues under consideration, the general situation in the field of developing such a packaging design at the present stage, the dynamics of the development of tea gift packaging design in connection with socio-cultural specifics, the latest approaches of Chinese specialists to determining the design features of tea gift packaging are traced. In addition, the analysis of a number of samples is given, which allow us to illustrate the innovative design solutions of Chinese specialists and identify the main specifics of the Chinese approach to the development of tea gift packaging. The influence of traditional national aesthetics is revealed. The techniques of Chinese designers are considered, thanks to which the design provides a semantic connection between the packaging and the contents, and also helps to display the artistic intent of the author. The study involves the systematization of available information on the theory and history of packaging design, including gift packaging, of tea in China. The work uses traditional methods of art criticism and historiographical analysis, as well as socio-cultural and functional analysis. The scientific novelty of the study is due to the fact that for the first time a complex of issues related to the problem of developing the design of tea gift packaging in modern Chinese design is being studied. Individual samples of modern Chinese tea gift packaging design are being introduced into scientific circulation. The author's main contribution to the research of the topic is to identify the main specifics of the Chinese approach to the development of tea gift packaging, as well as a number of innovations developed by Chinese designers. The main conclusions of the study: the design of gift packaging in modern Chinese design is positioned as the main means of expressing an artistic idea, as a "canvas" on which the designer creates an author's work of art. The artistic idea – not the product itself, but its artistic interpretation – entirely determines the concept, functionality, and design features of the packaging. To implement it, designers often neglect the global trend towards environmental friendliness, as well as reducing the use of excess packaging. The approach of Chinese designers in this sense demonstrates a fundamental difference from foreign practice.

Abstract:Package graphic design is a powerful tool for brand communication. Yet, an important question is how the designs are understood across cultures. A considerable amount of research has focused on cross-cultural marketing communications, prompting discussions on the emergence of global consumer cultures, which make package standardization possible or, conversely, the awareness of cultural differences, which has suggested that package localization is necessary. No research, however, has considered this question from a design-centered perspective and examined whether some package graphic designs are more likely than others to remain intelligible across cultures. This research proposes that packages using motivated signs in their graphic designs are more likely to be intelligible across cultures than packages using arbitrary signs. To explore this proposition, eight imported wine labels were analyzed through a semiotic study (study 1). Then, two studies investigated the interpretations of the wine labels by Chinese consumers. The results indicate that the labels that were classified as "motivated" succeeded in conveying the desired brand meanings to the Chinese respondents (study 2: N = 1391) even when they were not familiar with the wine brand culture (study 3: N = 795). The research presents a theoretical contribution by introducing the concept of sign motivation to the marketing literature and nuancing the classic assumption that visual signs convey different meanings across cultures. It also presents a managerial contribution by presenting a conceptual framework and methodology for the analysis of whether or not a graphic design is likely to be intelligible across cultures. It therefore provides guidelines for the design of packages for international markets.

Abstract:China's modern wine industry began in 1892 when Changyu Wine Company was founded. After more than 130 years of development, China has formed 11 major wine regions with their own characteristics. The wine grape varieties of China are divided into three categories: international mainstream varieties, Chinese indigenous varieties, and varieties that can be used for both winemaking and table grape purposes. There are various types of wine produced in China, including sparkling wine, dry white, dry red, rose, ice wine, aromatized wine, and fortified wine. There are more than 1,680 wineries in China, whose production modes are categorized as "Chateau & Chateau wines" mode and "winery & brand wines" mode. The number of Chateau enterprises accounts for 80% of the total, and is developing fast. China's wine industry management organizations mainly include Ministry (departments, bureaus) of Agriculture, and the Ministry (departments, bureaus) of Industry and Information Technology. And the industry service organizations mainly include the China Alcoholic Drinks Association (Wine Branch), China National Food Industry Association (Wine Branch), and Grape and Wine Association or Wine Industry Development Service Center established by provinces and cities. Up to now, 12 sub-wine regions in China have obtained the certification of geographical indication protection. Chinese wine consuming markets are divided into five groups, with huge consumption potential, and the activity of consumer market remains the top of Asia. China's wine industry integrates the three industries of grape growing, wine making and wine consumption, tourism, and cultural promotion. Such growth is in accordance with the advancement of agriculture, rural areas, and ecological protection, exhibiting sustainable development with vigor and vitality.

Abstract:Under the guidance of the new national color design concept, Chinese tea brand packaging design is in a transitional period of integrating traditional and modern elements. This study aims to analyze the packaging design practice under this trend. Through case studies of different tea brands with various varieties and regional cultural backgrounds, such as Fujian Zhengshantang, Hunan Anhua black tea, and Yunnan Pu’er tea, this paper reveals the formation of different tea brand packaging styles and design concepts under the new national color background. The study explores the integration of innovation and tradition, the in-depth expression of cultural connotations, and the innovation of consumer interactive experiences. This study adopts a qualitative analysis method, combined with interviews with brand designers and business managers, to explore the new concepts and packaging design strategies of tea brand packaging design in the context of the new national color. The study found that the new national color design not only successfully conveys the unique charm and cultural depth of tea culture but also further promotes international exchanges in tea culture and enhances the international image and market competitiveness of Chinese tea culture.
