Abstract:In this paper, we investigate positive solutions of the degenerate parabolic equation not in divergence form: ut=upΔu+auq−bur, subject to the null Dirichlet boundary condition. We at first discuss the existence and nonexistence of global solutions to the problem, and then study the large time behavior for the global solutions. When the positive source dominates the model, we prove that the global solutions uniformly tend to the positive steady state of the problem as t→∞. In particular, we establish the uniform asymptotic profiles for the decay solutions when the problem is governed by the nonlinear diffusion or absorption.

There exists a unique positive solution in the general bounded smooth domain when function of class is not increasing and is satisfying the conditions.

Abstract:In this paper we study the nonhomogeneous semilinear fractional Schrodinger equation with critical growth {(-Delta)(s)u + u = u(s)(2)*(-1) + lambda(f(x, u) + h(x)), x is an element of R-N, u is an element of H-s(R-N), u(x) > 0, x is an element of R-N, where s is an element of (0, 1), N > 4s, and lambda > 0 is a parameter, 2*(s) = 2N/N-2s is the fractional critical Sobolev exponent, f and h are some given functions. We show that there exists 0 < lambda* < +infinity such that the problem has exactly two positive solutions if lambda is an element of (0, lambda*), no positive solutions for lambda > lambda*, a unique solution (lambda*,u(lambda*)) if lambda = lambda*, which shows that (lambda*,u(lambda*)) is a turning point in H-S (R-N) for the problem. Our proofs are based on the variational methods and the principle of concentration-compactness.

Abstract:We study positive solutions of an equation with singular nonlinearities. The equation arises in the study of equilibrium states of thin films. Under weak assumptions on the nonlinearity, we show that for N >= 3 there exists a family of radial solutions {u(alpha)}(alpha>0) with u(alpha)(0) = alpha and each of them is oscillatory in ( 0, infinity). We obtain then a singular radial solution in ( 0, infinity) by taking the limit alpha --> 0. Meanwhile, using the solutions obtained in ( 0, infinity), we show some existence results for the corresponding Neumann eigenvalue problem on a ball.

Abstract:The structure of positive boundary blow-up solutions to semilinear problems of the form −Δu = λf(u) in Ω, u = ∞ on ∂Ω, Ω ⊂ RN a bounded smooth domain, is studied for a class of nonlinearities f ∈ C1 ([0, ∞)\{z2}) satisfying f (0) = f(z1) = f (z2) = 0 with 0 < z1 < z2, f < 0 in (0, z1)∪(z2, ∞), f > 0 in (z1, z2). Two positive boundary-layer solutions and infinitely many positive spike-layer solutions are obtained for λ sufficiently large.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the following nonperiodic Hamiltonian elliptic system {−ε2△u+V(x)u=Hu(x,u,v)inRN,−ε2△v+V(x)v=−Hv(x,u,v)inRN,u(x)→0andv(x)→0as|x|→∞, where ε>0 is a small parameter, and the potential V is bounded below, and H is asymptotically linear in z as |z|→∞ with z=(u,v). By applying a generalized linking theorem of strongly indefinite functionals, we obtain the existence of multiple semiclassical solutions for the above system.

Abstract:Existence and uniqueness of large positive solutions are obtained for a class of quasilinear elliptic Dirichlet problems in bounded smooth domains Ω with a large parameter λ. It is shown that a flat core of the large positive solution exists and its existence depends upon the smoothness of the nonlinearity. The distance between the flat core and ∂Ω is precisely measured as λ→∞.

Abstract:The structure of non-trivial non-negative solutions to singularly perturbed semilinear Dirichlet problems of the form −ε2Δu = f(u) in Ω, u = 0 on ∂Ω, Ω ⊂ RN a bounded smooth domain, is studied as ε → 0+, for a class of nonlinearities f(u) satisfying f(0) = f(z1) = f(z2) = 0 with 0 < z1 < z2, f < 0 in (0, z1), f > 0 in (z1, z2) and . It is shown that there are many non-trivial non-negative solutions and they are spike-layer solutions. Moreover, the measure of each spike layer is estimated as ε → 0+. These results are applied to the study of the structure of positive solutions of the same problems with f changing sign many times in (0, ∞). Uniqueness of a large positive solution and many positive intermediate spike-layer solutions are obtained for ε sufficiently small.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the following semilinear elliptic equations of the formwhere ε is a small positive parameter, and where f and g denote superlinear and subcritical nonlinearity. Suppose that b(x) has at least one maximum. We prove that the system has a ground-state solution (ψε, φε) for all sufficiently small ε > 0. Moreover, we show that (ψε, φε) converges to the ground-state solution of the associated limit problem and concentrates to a maxima point of b(x) in certain sense, as ε → 0. Furthermore, we obtain sufficient conditions for nonexistence of ground-state solutions.

Abstract:We study the structure of solutions of the boundary-value problem where Δ2 is the biharmonic operator and B⊂R3 is the unit ball. We show that there are infinitely many turning points of the branch of the radial solutions of (0.1). The structure of solutions depends on the classification of the radial solutions of the equation This is in sharp contrast with the corresponding result in ℝ2.

Abstract:We study qualitative properties of positive singular solutions to a two-coupled elliptic system with critical exponents. This system is related to coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations with critical exponents for nonlinear optics and Bose-Einstein condensates. We prove a sharp result on the removability of the same isolated singularity for both two components of the solutions. We also prove the nonexistence of positive solutions with one component bounded near the singularity and the other component unbounded near the singularity. These results will be applied in a subsequent work where the same system in a punctured ball will be studied.

An existence theorem of positive solutions is established by using the Schauder fixed point theorem and perturbation and operator approximation method, which resolves the singularity successfully and differs from those of some papers. Abstract:Abstract We study the number of positive solutions to the ‐coupled elliptic system where , , , , , and for . We prove new multiplicity and uniqueness results for positive solutions of the system, whether the system has a variational structure or not. In some cases, we provide a rather complete characterization on the exact number of positive solutions. The results we obtain reveal that the positive solution set of this system has very different structures in the three cases , , and . Moreover, when , very different structures of the positive solution set can also be seen in the case where close to 2 and the case where close to . Similar results are given for elliptic systems with subcritical Sobolev exponents. These results substantially generalize and improve existing results in the literature. To show the effect of the uniqueness result, we apply it to prove existence of a positive solution to a 2‐coupled nonlinear Schrödinger system with critical exponent and potentials.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the dynamics of population inhabiting a favorable environment surrounded by a region where survival is impossible. We use a parabolic partial differential equation with nonlinearity changing signs to describe the dynamics. By using a recent result on the existence of nonzero fixed point for r-nowhere normal-outward compact maps, we establish new results on existence of nonzero nonnegative or positive steady-state solutions of such boundary value problems. Additionally, we obtain the convergence of positive solutions of such parabolic boundary value problems in the Banach space $$C^1$$, which is different from the previous results that considered weak convergence or uniform convergence.

Abstract:We study the existence of infinitely many solutions for the following quasilinear elliptic equations with critical growth: where b_ij∈ C^1(ℝ,ℝ) satisfies the growth condition |b_ij(t)|∼ |t|^2s-2 at infinity, s≥ 1 , Ω⊂ℝ^N is an open bounded domain with smooth boundary, a is a constant. Here we use the notations: D_i=∂/∂ x_i, b'_ij(t)=db_ij(t)/dt. We will study the effect of the terms a|v|^2s-2v and b_ij(v) on the existence of an unbounded sequence of solutions for (P). Here, we do not assume the crucial global monotone condition. We overcome the difficulties caused by the lack of such monotone condition by performing various kinds of changes of variables.
