Accumulation and Degradation of Anionic Surfactant Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonate (LAS) by Spirulina Platensis

Abstract:Spirulina platensis was used to accumulate and degradate anionic surfactant linear alkylbenzene sulfonate(LAS),and the results showed that the growth of Spirulina platensis in different LAS concentrations fitted well with logistic model.Spirulina platensis exhibited definite capability of accumulation on LAS.Under the concentrations of 0.5,1,2 mg/L,times required for reaching the maximum accumulation were 24 h with the corresponding accumulation amounts of 2.43,4.83,10.12 mg/g,respectively.Spirulina platensis also has the capability to degradate LAS.At the concentrations of 0.5,1,2 mg/L,the degradation ratios of 5days were 87%,80%,70.5%,respectively.Degradation kinetics of LAS could be fitted well with the second-order kinetic equation with fitness over 87%.
