Abstract:The purpose of this work is to investigate the convergence of the solutions of the following max-type difference equation z(n) = max{1/z(n-s),P-n/z(n-t)(alpha n)}, n = 0,1,2, . . ., where s,t is an element of {1, 2, 3, . . .} with s not equal t, alpha(n) is an element of (0, 1) is an s-periodic sequence, {P-n}(n=0)(+infinity) is a constant sequence satisfying P-n is an element of (0, 1] for every n >= 0. We show that if {z(n)}(n=-r)(+infinity), (r = max{s, t}) is a positive solution of the above equation with the initial conditions z(-r), z(-r+1), . . ., z(-1) is an element of (0, +infinity), then lim(n ->infinity) z(n) = 1 or {z(2sn+k)}(n=0)(+infinity) is eventually monotone for every 0 <= k <= 2s - 1. Further, we show that if Pn is a periodic sequence, s = 1 and t is even, then limn, z(n ->infinity) z(n) = 1 or {z(n)}(n=-t)(+infinity) is eventually periodic with period 2.
