Abstract:TILLING, Targeting Induced Local Lesions In Genomes, is a low-cost, high throughput reverse genetic method that combines chemical random mutagenesis with PCR-based screening of gene regions of interest. “Ecotilling” is a new technique which can identify a series of allelic variation in natural population by using this method. At present, TILLING and Ecotilling are being applied in research of gene variation in many organisms. This paper gives an overview of the development, technical procedure and characteristics, analysis tools and application of (Eco)TILLING. Some perspectives about its application are discussed.
