Abstract:With the extensive use of computer aided systems in product design, manufacture and analysis, a mass of documents are produced. These documents provide engineering information in integrated environment of enterprise for engineers, but maintained by different systems in different forms. Current information retrieval approaches usually lack semantic supports for different kinds of documents, which leads to insufficiency of content representation and misunderstanding of query intention. To effectively search engineering information in various documents, and consider semantic information in engineering domain, an ontology-based information retrieval framework is presented. As the center of framework, ontologies are established to support document analysis and query processing through information representation in semantic level, and complete the mapping between user queries and document resources. The framework provides a unified platform for multi-source engineering information retrieval(EIR) from various documents in integrated environment.

Abstract:A series of problems arises with the emergence and fast development of grid. Among all the problems, one of them is how to smoothly connect heterogeneous grid platforms. There are a number of ways to solve this problem and the relatively more efficient one is using ontology. Based on this method, we focus on alleviating semantic inconsistency of various platforms and designing a novel ontology. This ontology is depicted by Resource Description Framework (RDF) and transacted by adapters. Finally, we test our method and analyze its performance.

Abstract:Intelligent information retrieval model based on domain ontology is proposed in this paper.Domain knowledge is described with OWL DL language,which supports reasoning and uses deep semantics to guide the process of retrieval.Annotation and query optimization are two critical technologies in information retrieval.The annotation of document segments is implemented with formal definition of concepts and inter-relationships of concepts in domain ontology."Topic-Concept" Disambiguation algorithm is suggested to solve the problem of polysemy in natural language processing.Query optimization algorithm is put forward to perform automatic expansion for users' query with reasoning mechanism of OWLDL.Based on the above technologies,ontology-based intelligent retrieval is realized in aerospace domain.The evaluations show that the effectiveness of retrieval can be improved with the ontology-based retrieval method,compared with traditional retrieval method based on keyword matching technologies.

Abstract:The paper discusses how to construct an ontology-based text information retrieval system, and thinks that if the subject indexing is based on the domain ontologies describing the relations between concepts, the entity relation indexing is based on the domain ontologies describing the relations between entities, and the document surrogates and query expressions are described in the format of ontology, the performance of the text information retrieval system will be improved.

Abstract:ITSGrid is an undergoing joint engineering project designed and developed by advanCed Computing aNd sysTem (CCNT) Lab in Zhejiang University and Hangzhou Enjoyor Electronics Co. Ltd (Enjoyor). The new features of ITSGrid are originated from two important research projects -- DartGrid and DartFlow, and one key engineering project -- JTang Application Server, in CCNT Lab. Its goal is to build an integrated intelligent transportation information and service platform (ITISP), to integrate traffic data resources collected by Enjoyor and cooperate existing ITS subsystems and services deployed by Enjoyor, finally serve for transportation construction in China. During building this project, we utilize systematically the Grid technology, the Semantic Web technology, the Web Service technology, the Messaging Oriented Middleware technology.

Abstract:LDAP based search mechanisms in Grid environment are syntactic based and do not support semantic information extraction. With the quick development of Semantic Grid, it demands a more flexible and powerful search mechanism for Grid information discovery. We propose a new search mechanism which extends LDAP and can be used in the Semantic Grid environment for semantic searching of relevant information. The mechanism uses an ontology learning model which maps WordNet lexicon into OWL ontologies. Such ontology assistant mechanism can utilize the reasoning services from particular description logic systems and make use of more machine automation in the searching process.

Abstract:The traditional retrieval system based on classification and keyword is difficult to satisfy the high quality retrieval requirement. The notion of ontology is introduced to retrieval systems and an ontology-based architecture for an intelligent information retrieval system is presented, and the running process, semantic query and reasoning of the system are discussed. Ontology describes the semantic information of knowledge bases in order to meet requirement of utmost sharing and reuse of the domain knowledge, then designs several retrieval requirements, and carries out the retrieval instances. The experimental results show the system meets the requirement of intelligent information search, and further improves the efficiency and precision of information retrieval.

Abstract:To achieve the goal of grid computing, scalable and effective mechanisms for representing, managing, and retrieving diversiform grid information are required. This paper presents an XML-based Grid Information Management System (XGIMS), which implements grid information modelling and retrieval. With GLUE specification, an extensible schema service is proposed, which supports user-defined resource schemas. Different from lots of existing approaches, an index- based XML parser is used to build indexes of grid resources based on the model. Furthermore an index- based XPath engine is presented for efficient and flexible query. XGIMS has been applied to the Information Service in ChinaGrid and the experiment results proved its efficiency.

Abstract:Because of the surprisingly increasing volume and complicated nature of remote sensing images (RSIs), one of the main obstacles to realize efficient retrieval of the RSIs is the lack of effective sharing technologies and semantic description methods. In this letter, we design and implement a prototype grid system named RSIsGrid for semantic-based RSIs retrieval using ontology and grid technologies. In order to verify the semantic-based method, measures such as the recall, precision, and query time are used. Test results have indicated that the semantic-based method can promote the query performance of the RSIs.

Abstract:A dynamic gird computing environment is characterized by entity autonomy, and distribution. Within this paper, we describe a grid resource management model KRMM, Knowledge-based Resource Management Model, which manage the resource in a decentralized way while query and match resource based on global grid knowledge. With supporting of RDF and RDQL, KRMM can easily support grid resource set-matching and gang-matching. Further more, by extending ontology and inference rule, KRMM can support network centric resource correlated query by derived knowledge reasoning. This model is flexible and extensible, and is suitable for large scale grid resources matchmaking.

Abstract:Web Information Extraction System is known as a typical problem in informal knowledge processing.Based on grid computing framework,a layered architecture of Grid Application System is provided to solve such kind of problem.The general principle for grid resource scheduling and grid programming is proposed to implement linkage analysis and information extraction.Finally,several evaluation criterions for the performance of the Grid Application System are discussed and the analytical results based on the experiment data in Web Information Extraction System are presented.

Abstract:In the Grid environments where many different implementations are available, the need for semantic matching based on a defined ontology becomes increasingly important. Especially for service or resource discovery and selection. In this paper, we propose a flexible and extensible approach for solving resource discovery and selection in the Grid Environments using ontology and semantic web and grid technologies. We have designed and prototyped an ontology-driven resource discovery and selection framework that exploits ontologies and domain knowledge base. We present results obtained when this framework is applied in the context of drug discovery grid. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of our framework.

Abstract:Grid computing environments can share resources and services in a large-scale. It allows every user to extract aggregated computational power from idle PCs in the Internet, thereby to accomplish high performance computing task with low cost. However, the use of the grid resource will be a complex task for an ordinary user. To improve the resource matching (resource search and selection), we proposed a resource matching scheme. This scheme had the resource specification description based on ontology; used mobile Agent as the delegate for the resource ontology of the provider/consumer and matched resource by the market broker. The advantages of this scheme are: 1) the use of the grid resource becomes very easy for an ordinary user. 2) Resource prices are dynamically decided on market principle. 3) The resource specification is described by ontology conception (no constraint condition), so that the scheme has expansibility.
