Abstract:We have succeeded in constructing a metalorganic framework (MOF), [Cu(bpdc)(H2O)2]n (H2bpdc=2,2'-bipyridyl-3,3'-dicarboxylic acid, 1), and two poly-POMMOFs (POM=polyoxometalate), {H[Cu(Hbpdc)(H2O)2]2[PM12O40]center dot n-H2O}n (M=Mo for 2, W for 3), by the controllable self-assembly of H2bpdc, Keggin-anions, and Cu2+ ions based on electrostatic and coordination interactions. Notably, these three compounds all crystallized in the monoclinic space group P21/n, and the Hbpdc- and bpdc2- ions have the same coordination mode. Interestingly, in compounds 2 and 3, Hbpdc- and the Keggin-anion are covalently linked to the transition metal copper at the same time as polydentate organic ligand and as polydentate inorganic ligand, respectively. Complexes 2 and 3 represent new and rare examples of introducing the metal N-heterocyclic multi-carboxylic acid frameworks into POMs, thereby, opening a pathway for the design and the synthesis of multifunctional hybrid materials based on two building units. The Keggin-anions being immobilized as part of the metal N-heterocyclic multi-carboxylic acid frameworks not only enhance the thermal stability of compounds 2 and 3, but also introduce functionality inside their structures, thereby, realizing four approaches in the 1D hydrophilic channel used to engender proton conductivity in MOFs for the first time. Complexes 2 and 3 exhibit good proton conductivity (10-4 to ca. 10-3 Scm-1) at 100 degrees C in the relative humidity range 35 to about 98%.
Discovery of a New Family of Polyoxometalate-Based Hybrids with Improved Catalytic Performances for Selective Sulfoxidation: the Synergy Between Classic Heptamolybdate Anions and Complex Cations.

Abstract:A series of functional cation-regulated isopolymolybdate-based organic-inorganic hybrid compounds, Na2H2[Mo4O12(C8H17O5N)2]·10H2O (1), Na2[M(Bis-tris)(H2O)]2[Mo7O24]·10H2O [M = Cu, 2; Ni, 3; Co, 4; Zn, 5; Bis-tris = 2,2-Bis(hydroxymethyl)-2,2',2″-nitrilotriethanol], and (NH4)2[M(Bis-tris)(H2O)]2[Mo7O24]·6H2O (M = Zn, 6; Cu, 7), were synthesized and characterized toward advanced molecular catalyst design. Compound 1 is a covalently bonded adduct, and its self-assembly process can be probed by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). Compounds 2-7 are polyoxometalate (POM)-based hybrids containing classic heptamolybdate anions and complex cations with Bis-tris ligands. All of these compounds showed remarkable catalytic effects for selective sulfide oxidation. To the best of our knowledge, compound 5 presents the best catalytic activity so far among the reported hybrid materials with common easily synthesized small-molecule POM clusters and also exhibits outstanding reliability. The conclusion of the catalytic effect is drawn from the results that Zn-based compounds have better catalytic effects than other transition-metal-containing compounds and the compound constructed by Na+ has higher catalytic activity than that constructed by NH4+. The mechanism studies show that the improvements of the catalytic performance are caused by the synergy between classic heptamolybdate anions and complex cations. ESI-MS data and UV-vis spectra revealed that the POM anions can form intermediate peroxomolybdenum units during catalytic reaction. Further, the combination of the substrate thioanisole with complex cations was characterized by NMR experiments and UV-vis spectra. Thus, a new synergistic mechanism of anions and cations is proposed in which the activated thioanisole is used as a nucleophile to attack the peroxomolybdenum bonds, and this provides a new strategy in the design of reliable POM-based catalysts.

Abstract:Two new hybrids based on Keggin polyoxometalates have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, TG analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal structure analyses reveal that complex 1 has an infinite 1D chain structure, constructed from [Cu(2,2′-bpy)(4,4′-bpy)(H2O)] fragments and [H2PMo11VO40]2− building blocks. Complex 2 has a 2D molecular ladder structure, with a basic structural unit composed of one bis(µ-OH) dicopper(II) [Cu2(OH)2(H2O)2(4,4′-bpy)3] fragment, one [HPMo12O40], and four water molecules. The [Cu2(OH)2(H2O)2(4,4′-bpy)3] units connect alternately to form edge rails. The [HPMo12O40] clusters act as rungs of the ladder, linking pairs of Cu atoms from the two adjacent edge rails. The electrochemical behavior of the complexes in modified carbon paste electrodes and their electrocatalytic reduction of nitrite were investigated.

Abstract:The one-dimensional inorganic–organic compound, (C 2 H 10 N 2 )[Mo 3 O 10 ], was synthesized hydrothermally, and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound was used as a bulk-modifier to fabricate a renewable three-dimensional chemically modified carbon paste electrode (Mo-CPE) by direct mixing. The electrochemical properties of (C 2 H 10 N 2 )[Mo 3 O 10 ]-modified Mo-CPE were investigated with respect to their pH-dependence, stability and electrocatalytic activity. The hybrid material bulk modified Mo-CPE not only displays good electrocatalytic activity toward the reduction of BrO 3 − , IO 3 − , NO 2 − and H 2 O 2 , but also exhibits good stability and multiple repeatability by simply polishing on the surface of a wet filter paper, a feature which is important for practical applications.
Amorphous Dominated Metal Hydroxide-Organic Framework with Compositional and Structural Heterogeneity for Enhanced Anodic Electro-Oxidation Reactions

Abstract:Inorganic-organic hybrids are promising anode catalysts to realize high activity and stability. Herein, an amorphous-dominated transition metal hydroxide-organic framework (MHOF) with isostructural mixed-linker was successfully synthesized on nickel foam (NF) substrate. The designed IML 24 -MHOF/NF exhibited remarkable electrocatalytic activity with an ultralow overpotential of 271 mV for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and a potential of 1.29 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode for urea oxidation reaction (UOR) at 10 mA·cm -2 . Furthermore, the IML 24 -MHOF/NF||Pt-C cell required only 1.31 V for urea electrolysis at 10 mA·cm -2 , which was much smaller than traditional water splitting (1.50 V). When coupled with UOR, the hydrogen yield rate was faster (1.04 mmol·h -1 ) than with OER (0.32 mmol·h -1 ) at 1.6 V. The structure characterizations, together with operando monitoring, including operando Raman, Fourier transform infrared, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and alcohol molecules probe, revealed that: (1) amorphous IML 24 -MHOF/NF prefers self-adaptive reconstruction into active intermediate species against the external stimulus; (2) pyridine-3,5-dicarboxylate-incorporation into parent framework reconfigures electronic structure of system, thus mediating the absorption of oxygen-containing reactants during anodic oxidation reactions, such as O* and COO*. This work provides a new approach for boosting the catalytic activity of anodic electro-oxidation reactions by trimming the structure of MHOF-based catalysts.

Abstract:Two new polyoxomolybdate-based organic–inorganic hybrid compounds with copper ions and bridging ligands were prepared in a hydrothermal reaction system, and the chemical formulas are [Cu 2 (L 1 ) 4 S][Mo 6 O 19 ] ( 1 ) and [Cu II Cu I 2 (L 2 ) 5 ][β-Mo 8 O 26 ] ( 2 ) (L 1 = 1,2-bis(iminazole-1-ylmethyl)benzene, L 2 = 1,4-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene). Complexes 1 and 2 were characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, TG analyses and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. Compound 1 exhibits 2-D layers with honeycomb-like cavities, further stacking into a 3-D supramolecular framework with the [Mo 6 O 19 ] 2- polyoxoanions as guest templates in the honeycomb-like cavities. Compound 2 possesses an overall 3D(2D/3D) framework constituted by the undulating 2-D motifs and the 3D sqp framework. The photocatalytic activities of 1 and 2 under UV light were investigated based on the degradation of methylene blue (MB). Both compounds exhibit efficient catalytic activity for the degradation of MB.

Abstract:Three new organic-inorganic hybrid compounds based on the Keggin polyoxometalates, [Co-2(tib)(2)(H2O)(4)(alpha-HBW12O40)]center dot 6H(2)O (1), [Co-2(tib)(2)(H2O)(4)(alpha-SiW12O40)]center dot 4H(2)O (2) and [Co(H(2)tib)(4)(alpha-BW12O40)(2)]center dot 8H(2)O (3) (tib = 1,3,5-tris(1-imidazoly)benzene), were hydrothermally synthesized by utilizing a pH-dependent approach in the same POM/Co/tib reaction systems. X- ray structural analyses reveal that isostructural compounds 1 and 2, obtained at pH 3.6, have a (3,4)-connected 2D net with the (4(2) 6)(4(2) 6(3) 8) topology; compound 3, isolated at pH 4.8, is a "butterfly-like" structure stemming from alpha-BW12 polyoxoanions and Co-tib motifs. In addition, the electrocatalytic properties of compounds 1-3 were studied by cyclic voltammetry. Compounds 1-3 displayed bifunctional electrocatalytic activities toward reduction of nitrite and oxidation of ascorbic acid.

Abstract:The Mo≡N bond is conjugated with the organic segment in the novel molecular organic-inorganic hybrid materials that have been obtained by Pd-catalyzed coupling of an iodo-functionalized hexamolybdate anion and an alkyne (see scheme; Ar=4-methylphenyl,3-5-di(tert-butyl)phenyl). The interaction between the polyoxometalate cluster and the organic conjugated system is particularly apparent from the strong red-shifted absorption in the UV/Vis spectrum.

Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are class of promising heterogeneous catalysis, but usually not directly employed for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) due to manipulating difficultly their composition and morphology. Herein, we present a facile one-pot solvothermal method to successfully synthesize diverse bimetallic organic framework {[MFe(tda)(H2O)]n (M = Mn/Co/Ni), tda = thiodiacetate}. Significantly, the morphology of [MFe(tda)(H2O)]n can be efficiently changed by regulating metal components. Among them, [NiFe(tda)(H2O)]n with unique pompon-like architecture not only can be directly used as electrocatalyst, but also delivers extraordinary OER performance with low overpotential of 264 mV at current density of 10 mA cm-2 in O2-saturated 1 M KOH solution, low Tafel slope of 53.9 mV dec- 1, and high durability after long-term testing. In addition, the effect of mixed ligands and metal ratio on morphology has also been investigated, which demonstrates the hierarchical structure of prepared materials plays a crucial role in enhancing OER activity.

Abstract:An inorganic–organic hybrid crystalline material (SiMo12O40)[Cu(2,2′-bipy)2]2·2H2O (Complex 1, 2,2′-bipy = 2,2′-bipyridine) was synthesized for the first time by using 2,2′-bipy and transition metal copper to convert Waugh-type polyoxometalate [MnMo9O32]6− into a Keggin polyoxometalate structure [SiMo12O40]4− under hydrothermal conditions in glass vials. Single crystal tests and a series of characterizations were carried out on Complex 1. The structure of Complex 1 is composed of [SiMo12O40]4− and [CuII(2,2′-bipy)2]2+. The five-coordinated Cu is connected to two 2,2′-bipy through Cu–N bonds, forming an approximately square structure. Astonishingly, Complex 1 exhibited good photocatalytic performance for methylene blue degradation and electrocatalytic nitrite reduction properties simultaneously.

Abstract:A new inorganic-organic hybrid based on γ -[Mo 8 O 26 ] 4– , [Zn(H 2 O) 2 (H 2 PIDC) 2 ][(Mo 8 O 26 )(HPIM) 2 ]·8H 2 O ( 1 ), (H 2 PIDC = 2-(pyridine-3-yl)-1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acid; PIM = 2-(pyridine-3-yl)-imidazole), has been synthesized and structurally characterized by X-ray single-crystal diffraction. PIM was synthesized through in situ decarboxylation reaction from H 2 PIDC. The two five-coordinated Mo atoms of γ -[Mo 8 O 26 ] 4– are coordinated with two HPIM + forming a [(Mo 8 O 26 )(HPIM) 2 ] 2− unit. [Zn(H 2 O) 2 (H 2 PIDC) 2 ] 2+ units and [(Mo 8 O 26 )(HPIM) 2 ] 2− units are linked into a 3D supramolecular structure by noncovalent interactions. The Hirshfeld surface analyses indicates that hydrogen bonding interactions are the dominant interactions in 1 . The solid-state luminescence spectrum of compound 1 at room temperature was investigated ( λ em = 395 nm). We have also studied the cyclic voltammograms and the electrocatalytic reduction of KNO 2 of 1 -CPE.

Abstract:A simple method to fabricate Mo-based nanostructures were developed by the thermal decomposition of MoO x -based organic–inorganic hybrid nanowires. Well-defined Mo-based nanostructures, including MoO2 and MoO3 nanowires, can be prepared by changing the hybrid precursor. More importantly, Mo2C/MoO2 heterostructures with porous structure were successfully synthesized under an inert atmosphere. The resultant Mo2C/MoO2 heterostructures show enhanced electrocatalytic activity and superior stability for electrochemical hydrogen evolution from water. The enhanced performance might be ascribed to the high electrical conductivity and porous structures with one-dimensional structure. Indeed, our result described here provides a new way to synthesize other Mo-based nanostructures for various applications.
Design and Syntheses of MOF/COF Hybrid Materials Via Postsynthetic Covalent Modification: an Efficient Strategy to Boost the Visible-Light-driven Photocatalytic Performance

Abstract:The search of novel visible-light-responsive porous materials is important because they hold great promise for applications in various fields. Herein, we report a novel strategy based on postsynthetic covalent modification for fabrication of hierarchical porous metal-organic frameworks/covalent organic frameworks (MOF/COF) hybrid materials. For the first time, benzoic acid-modified covalent triazine-based frameworks (B-CTF-1) are covalently bonded with MOFs (NH2-MIL-125(Ti) or NH2-UiO-66(Zr)) by using this strategy. Photocatalytic results show that the hydrogen production rate over 15 wt% NH2-MIL-125(Ti)/B-CTF-1 (15TBC) is 360 mu mol.h(-1).g(-1) under visible light irradiation, which is more than twice as much as that of the B-CTF-1. Meanwhile, the hybrid materials show higher stability as compared to the simple heterostructures of MOFs and COFs connected via Van der Waals force. Photoelectrochemical analyses and controlled experiments indicate that the superior photocatalytic performance of the MOF/COF hybrids can be attributed to the formation of amide bonds between B-CTF-1 and MOFs, which facilitate the charge separation efficiency and improve the stability of the photocatalyst. Finally, a possible mechanism to well explain the improved photocatalytic performance of the photocatalytic system was proposed. The present work provides a new idea to construct highly efficient and stable MOF/COF hybrid systems and broaden the applications of COF-based materials.
In Situ Transformation of MOFs into Layered Double Hydroxide Embedded Metal Sulfides for Improved Electrocatalytic and Supercapacitive Performance

Abstract:Direct adoption of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as electrode materials shows impoverished electrochemical performance owing to low electrical conductivity and poor chemical stability. In this study, we demonstrate self-templated pseudomorphic transformation of MOF into surface chemistry rich hollow framework that delivers highly reactive, durable, and universal electrochemically active energy conversion and storage functionalities. In situ pseudomorphic transformation of MOF-derived hollow rhombic dodecahedron template and sulfurization of nickel cobalt layered double hydroxides (NiCo-LDHs) lead to the construction of interlayered metal sulfides (NiCo-LDH/Co9 S8 ) system. The embedment of metal sulfide species (Co9 S8 ) at the LDH intergalleries offers optimal interfacing of the hybrid constituent elements and materials stability. The hybrid NiCo-LDH/Co9 S8 system collectively presents an ideal porous structure, rich redox chemistry, and high electrical conductivity matrix. This leads to a significant enhancement in its complementary electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution and supercapacitive energy storage properties. This work establishes the potential of MOF derived scaffold for designing of novel class hybrid inorganic-organic functional materials for electrochemical applications and beyond.

Abstract:By changing the polyoxoanions in the same metal-organic system (Ag/ptz), two novel inorganic-organic hybrids: [Ag-10(ptz)(5)(HP2W18O62)(H2O)(4)]center dot 2H(2)O (1), [Ag-7(ptz)(5)(H2SiW12O40)(H2O)] (2) (ptz = 5-(4-pyridyl)-tetrazolate), are synthesized under hydrothermal conditions, and characterized by IR spectra, elemental analyses and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 and 2 show 3D POM-templated framework structures. In compound 1, a 2D layer is constructed by "shield-like" metal-organic circles templated by P2W18 polyoxoanions, which is extended to a 3D structure by covalent bonds in an interdigital mode. In compound 2, a 3D network is constructed by 2D layers and a "double bridge-pillar", the Keggin polyoxoanion templates are enveloped in pairs in nanocages. The influences of polyoxoanion templates on the frameworks are discussed. The electrochemical behavior and luminescent properties for compound 1 and 2 are investigated.

Abstract:Unusual hepta- and nona-nuclear copper/silver complexes were introduced into different Keggin cluster leading to 2-D hybrid layers, which exhibit merit photo- and electro-catalytic properties.

Abstract:The solvothermal reactions involving cobalt ions with 5-methylisophthalic acid (H2MIP) and 1,3-bis(2-methylimidazol)propane (BMIP) yielded two cobalt(II) organic frameworks: {[Co4(MIP)4(BMIP)3]·1/2DMA}n (SNUT-31) and {[Co4(MIP)4(BMIP)3]·(EtOH)2·H2O]}n (SNUT-32) where DMA represents N,N-dimethylacetamide and EtOH signifies ethyl alcohol. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses reveal that SNUT-31 and SNUT-32 possess an isomorphic structure, featuring a unique 2-fold interpenetration of 3D frameworks in a parallel manner. Notably, both SNUT-31 and SNUT-32 demonstrate remarkable performance in electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reactions and exhibit exceptional photocatalytic degradation capabilities against a model comprising three distinct dyes: rhodamine B, methyl orange, and methyl blue.

Abstract:Two novel 3D compounds based on Keggin heteropoly blue anion-chains, [Na(H2O)(2){MI(btp)}(4)(PWVI8WV4O39)] (M = Cu (1), Ag (2), btp = 1,3-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl) propane), have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, TG, PXRD and single crystal X-ray diffraction. In compounds 1 and 2, the neighboring Keggin clusters are connected via sharing terminal oxygen atoms to form unusual Keggin anion chains by W-O-W covalent interactions, which are further reinforced by two copper(I) or silver(I) bridging fragments. Such saturated Keggin anion chains have been observed for the first time. The (Mbtp)(4) 40-membered cation-macrocycles and {Na(H2O)(2)} units serve as linkers to bond two adjacent anion chains resulting in infinite 2-D layers. The layers are further fused by interactions between the 40-membered macrocycles and {Na(H2O)(2)} units leading to intricate 3-D frameworks, which exhibit a novel 4, 6, 8-connected topology. In addition, compounds 1 and 2 exhibit good electrocatalytic activity for reduction of nitrite and fluorescence properties in the solid state at room temperature.

Abstract:A new organic-inorganic hybrid consisting of Keggin-type polyoxometalate ([BW12O40](5-)) and imidazole, namely [H5O2][imi](4) [BW12O40]center dot nH(2)O (imi = Imidazole) (1), has been created under reflux state and identified through material identification devices like single crystal crystallography, FT-IR and 1H NMR spectmscopies, powder XRD, TG-DT Analysis, field emission SEM, elemental-analysis and cyclic voltammetry. Crystallography investigation exhibits that two main factors which are the numerous number of hydrogen bonding between organic and inorganic species and pi-pi stacking interaction between two adjacent imidazole rings a have crucial role in 1 formation. In addition, three types of imidazole exist in 1 structure in terms of different kind of hydrogen bonding among [BW12O40](5-) clusters and imidazole cations. Furthermore, the electrochemical and photochemical attributes of 1 have been considered, and the outcomes present that compound owns privileged electrocatalytic activity against the reduction of nitrite ions as well as an appropriate photochemical effect on methylene blue (MB) dye depredation. Because of the use of catalyst 1 in the form of modified carbon paste electrode (MCPE) to reduce nitrite ions, and of course its ability to recover and reuse repeatedly in the degradation of MB, this catalyst can be classified in green chemistry domain.
