Abstract:The study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary taurine and cholesterol on growth performance, body composition and plasma metabolites of cobia(Rachycentron canadum L.) fed high corn gluten meal(CGM) diets.A basal diet(control) with 16.8% fish meal and 40% CGM was formulated. The other three experimental diets were prepared with the supplementation of 1.0% cholesterol,1.0% taurine and a combination of 1.0% cholesterol and 1.0% taurine to the basal diet. The results showed that fish fed the diet with 1.0% taurine had significantly higher survival, feed intake(FI),specific growth rate(SGR),protein productive value(PPV),and feed efficiency ratio(FER) than those of fish fed the control diet(P<0.05).However,compared with the control, these indexes were not significantly different in fish fed the diet with 1.0% cholesterol.Fish fed the diet with 1.0% taurine had significantly higher whole-body crude protein and crude lipid contents(P<0.05),and significantly lower whole-body moisture(P<0.05).Fish fed the diet with 1.0% cholesterol had significantly higher whole-body crude lipid contents(P<0.05) and similar whole body moisture, crude protein and ash among fish fed the control diet and diet with 1.0% cholesterol.Compared with the control, fish fed the diet with 1.0% taurine had significantly higher plasma total protein content(P<0.05),and fish fed the diet with 1.0% cholesterol had significantly higher plasma cholesterol content(P<0.05).No synergistic effects of dietary taurine and cholesterol were observed in present study.
