Abstract:OBJECTIVE To prepare paeonol microcapsules and to study their drug release in vitro.METHODS Paeonol microcapsules were prepared by different sodium alginate concentrations,and their release rate were determined in different media.The releasing mechanism of paeonol from the microcapsules was established by equation fitting of releasing kinetic model.RESULTS The release rate and drug loading were decreased as alginate concentration increased.The acid solution was beneficial to drug release on the initial stage,while basic solution was favorable during later stage.The release of paeonol exhibited first order kinetic equation.CONCLUSION The preparation process was simple and the drug releasing mechanism of paeonol from the microcapsule was chiefly characterized by bulk erosion including drug diffusion non-Fickian process.
