Abstract:Objective To study the autologous blood donation for collection of autologous peripheral blood stem cell(PBSC) in low body weight pediatric patients with autoimmune diseases.Methods Collection of autologous PBSC was performed in 2 low body weight pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes.Before collection of PBSC,an average of 100ml of autologous blood was prepared,which was used instead of homologous blood and irradiate red blood cell.Results The collection was successful in 2 cases.No signs of complications due to anemia were encountered and no hypotension or hyperthermia episode was observed neither.Conclusion The autologous blood donation is a safe and effective method to avoid homologous blood transfusion for elective collection of stem cells in low body weight pediatric patients.
