Abstract:Fe2BP3O12 was synthesized by high temperature solid state reactions. Its crystal structure was refined by powder X-ray diffraction methods, belonging to trigonal system with space group P3, a=8.02703(6)Angstrom, c=7.40168(9)Angstrom(3), V=413-02(1)Angstrom(3), D-x=3.2758(1)(g/cm(3)), Z=2. The full profile refinement resulted to R(I)=6.35%, R(p)=15.36% and R(dbw)=10.12% for 55 parameters using 188 reflections and 18001 profile data points. The structure contains [BP3O12](4-). poly-anion, built by trigonal planar BO3 sharing the three corner oxygen atom with three PO4 tetrahedra. And Fe2O9 bi-octahedra fused by two face-sharing FeO6 connect with the poly-anions forming three dimensional ordered structure. Compared with its chromium isotypic compound, Cr2BP3O12, which shows NLO property, the title compound may be a potential NLO material.

Abstract:A new one-dimensional Fe(II)molybdophosphate of the formula, [(C10H8N2)H2]2[Fe4(II)Mo12(V)(HPO4)6(PO4)2(H2O)8(OH)6O24]·8H2O, (1), has been synthesized by employing hydrothermal methods and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The structure consists of a network of MO6 (M=Fe, Mo) octahedra and (H)PO4 tetrahedra linked through their vertices. The connectivity between the polyhedral units gives rise to one-dimensional chains with eight-membered apertures. The hydrogen bonded interactions between the chains form pseudo two-dimensional layers. Extensive hydrogen bonding also exists between the amine molecule, 4,4′-bipyridine, water molecule and framework oxygen atoms. Crystal data for 1: monoclinic, space group=P21 (no. 4), a=12.549(3) (Å), b=23.496(5) (Å), c=14.551(3) (Å), β=114.87(3)°, V=3892.5(15)Å3, and Z=2.

Abstract:Rhombohedral bismuth ferrite (BiFeO3) powders were hydrothermally synthesized by using C6H8BiNO7 and Fe (NO3)·5H2O as precursors, KOH as a mineralizer and poly sodium-p-styrenesulfonate (PSS) as an additive. The phase formation and morphology of the as-prepared powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction, raman spectroscopy, and field-emission scanning electron microscopy. In order to investigate the effects of PSS, a series of experiments were performed by changing the introduced amount of PSS and the hydrothermal reaction time. The results showed that the introduction of the PSS leads to the synthesized bismuth ferrite changes from the mixture of Bi2Fe4O9 and BiFeO3 to pure rhombohedral BiFeO3. Corresponding to the phase composition evolution, the particle morphology alters from nanosheets to microparticles. The magnetic properties of single-crystalline BiFeO3 powders were also characterized. Based on the experimental results, the phase formation mechanism of the rhombohedral BiFeO3 hydrothermally synthesized assisted with PSS was discussed. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
A novel bithiazole-containing polymeric complex with soft ferromagnetism

Abstract:A novel polymer resulting from the polycondensation of 2,2'-diamino-4,4'-bithiazole (DABT) with 5,5'-methylene-bis-salicylaidehyde (MBSA) and its ferric complex are described. Analyses of Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) revealed that both bithiazole residue and Schiff-base moiety acted as coordination sites for Fe 31 ions in the polymeric matrix. The magnetic behavior of the complex was studied as a function of magnetic field strength (0-60 kOe) at 25 K and as a function of temperature (5-300 K) at a magnetic field strength of 30 kOe. The hysteretic loop was measured at 5 K for the complex showing coercivity (H-c) of 20 Oe and remnant magnetization (M-r) of 0.002 emu/g, which is much lower than those of bithiazole-based polymeric complexes previously reported. The results indicated that the present complex is of the typical characteristics of a soft ferromagnet. Copyright (c) 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Abstract:The first layered iron borate, Fe(5)O(5)[B(6)O(10)(OH)(3)] x nH(2)O, has been prepared by the boric acid flux method. Its structure, determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction, contains a double FeO(6)-octahedral layer and an unusual [B(6)O(13)] chain. The rigid and cambered [B(6)O(13)] chains bend the octahedral layers, resulting in a wave-like and sandwiched structure. Crystallographic study indicates the structural modulation is mainly from the [B(6)O(13)] chains because of the insertion of water molecules in between. Nevertheless, FeO(6) layers in the average structure, which are well separated by borate chains, is still a reasonable model to understand the two-dimensional magnetism. The strong antiferromagnetic interactions and the complex Fe(3+)-net suggest a possible geometrically magnetic frustration, which may be the reason for the second-order temperature-induced magnetic transition at approximately 125 K. The condensed Fe(3+) layers and the relatively low redox potential at about 1.25 V versus Li(+)/Li show its potentials as an anodic material.

Abstract:A new borophosphate compound, (NH4)(0.5) (H3O)(0.5)Mg(H2O)(2)BP2O8, was prepared by hydrothermal synthesis and characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction. The title compound belongs to hexagonal system,. space group P6(5)22, a = 0. 94507 (19) nm, c = 1. 5803 (5) nm, gamma = 120degrees, V = 1. 2224 (5) nm(3), M-r = 279.06, Z = 6, D-c = 2.258 g/cm(3), F (000) = 834, R-1 = 0.0360, wR(2) = 0.1070, mu = 0.663 mm(-1). The crystal structure of the compound contains infinite one-dimensional borophosphate ribbons (1)(infinity) {[BP2O8](3-)} built of corner sharing BO4 and PO4 tetrahedra arranged around 6(5) screw axes. The borophosphate helices are interconected. by MgO4(H2O)(2) coordination octahedra to form a three-dimensional framework. The elemental analysis, IR, DTA/TGA. and the calculation of the electric charge balance show the presence of ammonium ions and protons. Both ammonium ions and hydroniums are located within the free loop of helical ribbons, and close to the inner wall of the helical channels (1)(infinity)[BP2O8](3-)}, respectively, balancing charge and stabilizing helical ribbons.

Abstract:A series of syntheses in the HF–ZrO2–P2O5–pyridine–H2O system have been performed in an attempt to synthesize novel materials with open zirconium phosphate framework structures. One of the resulting products, designated ZrPOF–pyr (∣(C5H6N)4(H2O)2∣[Zr12P16O60(OH)4F8]), has been characterized by XRD, SEM and TG-DTA, and its crystal structure determined from powder diffraction data using direct methods (Pnnm, a=19.1595(2)Å, b=15.1428(1)Å, c=6.61804(6)Å). The framework structure, consisting of corner sharing ZrO6, ZrO5F, ZrO4F2 octahedra and PO4 and PO3OH tetrahedra, proved to be identical to that of ∣(C5H16N2)2(H2O)6∣[Zr12P16O60(OH)4F8], which had been reported previously. In both structures, the terminal P–OH group is disordered. The non-framework species (pyridinium ion and water molecule) could be located in the channels of the framework. Structure solution was also performed using a charge-flipping algorithm, which makes no symmetry assumptions, to verify that the P–OH disorder is inherent to the material and not a result of an incorrectly assumed space group. The phase is thermally stable to 450°C, but transforms to another phase at higher temperatures.

To date, only a few phosphite materials containing Fe cation have been reported. Our group has developed the hydrothermal synthesis of many novel metal phosphites. Here we reported another three-dimensional iron phosphites (H3O)2·[Fe5 II (HPO3)6] synthesized under mild hydrothermal conditions and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The title compound crystallized in the trigonal space group P3cl, with unit cell parameters, a=l.0269(5) nm, b=1.0269(5) nm, c=0.9295(6) nm, and Z=2. The compound formed three-dimensional frameworks with six-membered channels along the c axis. The Fe centers in the frameworks adopted slightly distorted octahedral coordination geometry and were bridged by the pseudo-pyramidal phosphites. The temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility measurements for the title compound indicates the occurrence of antimagnetic interaction between Fe ions. Neel's temperature for the title compound is 6.43 K. Above Neel's temperature materials have paramagnetic behavior which obeys to Curie-Weiss equation. The Curie constant is 23.4 emu·K-1·mol-1. The effective magnetic moment of the compound at 300 K is 4.25 μB per Fe2+.

Abstract:A new three-dimensional (3-D) manganese(II) borophosphate, [NH4](4)[Mn9B2(OH)(2)(HPO4)(4)(PO4)(6)] (denoted MnBPO-CJ26), has been synthesized by a hydrothermal method. The structure has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c (No. 15) with a = 32.603(7) angstrom, b = 10.617(2) angstrom, c = 10.718(2) angstrom, and beta = 108.26(3)degrees. Its structure features anionic manganese-phosphate layers [Mn-9(OH)(2)(HPO4)(4)(PO4)(6)](10-), which are made up from MnO5, MnO6, PO4, and HPO4 polyhedral units. These anionic layers, parallel to the bc plane, are further connected by BO4 tetrahedra through vertex oxygen atoms forming a novel open framework with 2-D eight-membered ring (8-MR) channels along the [010] and [001] directions. Charge neutrality is achieved by protonated NH3 molecules. The structure has unique B/P and Mn/P ratios (B/P = 1/5, Mn/P = 9/10). Magnetic measurements indicate that Curie-Weiss behavior above 100 K with C = 4.404(3) cm(3) mol(-1) K and theta = -51.2(5) K. The value of C is consistent with an S = (5)/(2) ion with g similar to 2.0 (4.38 cm(3) mol(-1) K). However, the magnetic data reveal a spontaneous magnetization at 8.0 K, indicating a canting of Mn2+ moments in the antiferromagnetic ground state.

Abstract:Two composite solids consisting of one-dimensional mixed-valence iron and molybdenum phosphates with metal complexes, [(C10H8N2)(3)Fe-II](3)(F2Fe2MO24V)-Fe-II-M-III(H2PO4)(8)(HPO4)(4)(PO4)(4)O-48(OH)(12)(H2O)(4) . 12H(2)O (1) and [(C10H8N2)(3)Fe-II](2)(FeFeMO12V)-Fe-II-M-III(H2PO4)(2)(H2-xPO4)(H1+xPO4)(HPO4)(2)(PO4)(2)O-24(OH)(6)(H2O)(2). 9H(2)O (x = 0-1) (2), in which the one-dimensional inorganic anions are constructed of alternating [Fe-II(P8Mo12)] units and Fe-III ions, were synthesized by hydrothermal reaction of MoO3, H3PO4, Fe-2(C2O4)(3) . 5H(2)O,2,2'-bipyridine, H2C2O4 . 2H(2)O and H2O, and characterized by elemental analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Though the non-hydrogen atomic ratios among Mo, Fe, P, O in the anionic chains are the same, the protonation of the PO4 groups is different in 1 and 2, with the result that the anionic chains carry different charges and subsequently give rise to different numbers of Fe-II(2,2'-bipyridine)(3) per {Fe-2(III)[Fe-2(II)(P16Mo24V)]} unit.

Abstract:A new iron hydrogen phosphate, heptairon bis(phosphate) tetrakis(hydrogenphosphate), Fe(7)(PO(4))(2)(HPO(4))(4), has been prepared hydrothermally and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound has one Fe atom on an inversion centre and is isostructural with Mn(7)(PO(4))(2)(HPO(4))(4) and Co(7)(PO(4))(2)(HPO(4))(4). The structure is based on a framework of edge- and corner-sharing FeO(6), Fe(5) and PO(4) polyhedra, isotypic with that found in the mixed-valence iron phosphate Fe(7)(PO(4))(6). The Fe atoms in the title compound are purely in the divalent state, just like the Co atoms in Co(7)(PO(4))(2)(HPO(4))(4), the necessary charge balance being maintained by the addition of H atoms in the form of bridging Fe-OH-P groups.

Abstract:Two iron diphosphonates, [NH3(CH2)2NH3][FeII{HO3PC (CH3)(OH)(PO3H)}2] ·2H2O (1) and [NH3(CH2)2NH2(CH2)2 NH3][FeIII{O3PC(CH3)(OH)(PO3H)}2]·H2O (2), have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. Crystal data: 1, monoclinic, C2/c, a=24.754(5), b=5.331(1), c=16.010(3) Å, β=117.787(3)°, V=1868.9(6) Å3, Z=4, R1=0.0321; 2, orthorhombic, Pbcn, a=22.128(4), b=9.9479(9), c=19.110(2) Å, V=4206.7(9) Å3, Z=8, R1=0.0389. Both show chain structures in which anionic chains of [FeII{HO3PC(CH3)(OH) (PO3H)}2]n2n − in 1 or [FeIII{O3PC(CH3)(OH)(PO3H)}2]n3n− in 2 are composed of {FeIIO6} or {FeIIIO6} octahedra and {CPO3} tetrahedra alternatively. The protonated organic amines and lattice water are located between the chains with extensive hydrogen bonding interactions. Weak antiferromagnetic exchange couplings are propagated between the magnetic centers through the O–P–O bridges in both cases.

The compound forms three-dimensional framework with six-membered channels along the c-axis. The Fe center in the framework adopts slightly distorted octahedral coordination geometry and is bridged by the pseudo-pyramidal phosphites. Abstract:The α-octamolybdate-supported compound: [Fe(2,2′-bipy)3]2[α-Mo8O26] has been unexpectedly synthesized during a diffuse process and characterized by the IR spectroscopy, UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and the single crystal X-ray diffraction. The title compound exhibits an interesting 3D honeycomb ‘host’ supramolecular network with 1D channels, in which only α-octamolybdate anions ‘guests’ reside. The title compound shows the anisotropic property and probably will be applied as a novel semiconductor in the future.

Abstract:A new composite solid of the formula [(C12H8N2)3FeII]2 [FeIIMoV12(H2PO4)6(PO4)2(OH)6O24] 1 has been synthesized from a reaction mixture of MoO3, Fe2(C2O4)3·6H2O, C2H2O4·2H2O, 1,10-phenanthroline monohydrate, H3PO4, and H2O under hydrothermal conditions. Crystal data: trigonal, space group R-3, a=16.874(6) Å, c=30.117(7) Å, V=7426(4) Å3, R1=0.0190, wR2=0.0468, and S=1.137. The structure of 1 is built up from FeMo12(H2PO4)6(PO4)2(OH)6O4−24 cluster anions connected to each other via hydrogen bonds. The arrangement of clusters is such that each cluster is surrounded by six equivalent anions resulting in three-dimensional cavities. The charge balancing cation, [(C12H8N2)3Fe]2+ complex, resides in the cavities and interact with the clusters through hydrogen bonds. There is also strong π–π interactions exist among the phenyl rings.
