Poetic Dwelling--The Spiritual Concept of Traditional Chinese Garden

Abstract:After Wei and Jin Period, the proportion of architecture, the shapes of water and hill, and the functions of traditional Chinese garden changed through the evolution from "mountain dwelling" to "courtyard dwelling" and from"serving for walking and looking" to"serving for dwelling and touring", but something that never changed was the willing of poetic dwelling which have been dominating the traditional garden's development through the physical changes of dwelling under the social and cultural background. As the spiritual essential, the willing combined human beings with the nature on the social philosophy concept of "happiness" and the natural philosophy concept of "living".
