Abstract:The Jaynes-Cummings model without the rotating-wave approximation can be solved exactly by an extended Swain ansatz with conserved parity. Analytical approximations are then performed at different levels. The well-known rotating-wave approximation (RWA) is naturally covered in the present zeroth- and first-order approximations. A first-order correction to the RWA can be obtained in a second-order approximation, by which the effect of the counter-rotating-wave term emerges clearly. Concise analytical expressions are given explicitly and can be applicable up to the ultrastrong-coupling regime. A preliminary application to vacuum Rabi splitting is shown to be very successful.

Abstract:In angular quantization approach a perturbation theory for the Massive Thirring Model (MTM) is developed, which allows us to calculate Vacuum Expectation Values of exponential fields in sin-Gordon theory near the free fermion point in first order of MTM coupling constant $g$. The Hankel-transforms play an important role when carrying out this calculations. The expression we have found coincides with that of the direct expansion over $g$ of the exact formula conjectured by <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://S.Lukyanov" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> and <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://A.Zamolodchikov" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>.

Abstract:A general algebraic method of quantum corrections evaluation is presented. Quantum corrections to a few classical solutions (kinks and periodic) of Ginzburg-Landau (phi-in-quadro) and Sin-Gordon models are calculated in arbitrary dimensions. The Green function for heat equation with a soliton potential is constructed by means of Laplace transformation theory and Hermit equation for the Green function transform. The generalized zeta-function is used to evaluate the functional integral and quantum corrections to mass in quasiclassical approximation.

Abstract:Perturbation theory plays an essential role in the realm of physics, especially when it is difficult or impossible to obtain exact solutions. Incorporating higher derivative terms into the gravitational action leads to an important perturbation problem. In this paper, we demonstrate that the first order corrections to black hole thermodynamics, caused by any higher derivative terms, can be achieved without explicitly solving the modified metric. This enhances a simple approach discovered two decades ago and resolves the controversy surrounding it. Astonishingly, we observe that the perturbation theory of quantum mechanics also exhibits a similar behavior, which reveals the existence of a universal theoretical structure underlying the perturbation theories of black hole thermodynamics, quantum mechanics and even other disciplines.

Abstract:Numerical simulation of the solution to the sine-Gordon equation on the whole real axis is considered in this paper. Based on nonlinear spectral analysis, exact nonreflecting boundary conditions are derived at two artificially introduced boundary points. Then a numerical scheme of second order is proposed to approximate the solution. In the end, some numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
Improving Perturbation Theory with the Sum-of-Squares: Third Order

Abstract:The sum-of-squares method can give rigorous lower bounds on the energy of quantum Hamiltonians. Unfortunately, typically using this method requires solving a semidefinite program, which can be computationally expensive. Further, the typically used degree-$4$ sum-of-squares (also known as the 2RDM method) does not correctly reproduce second order perturbation theory. Here, we give a general method, an analogue of Wigner's $2n+1$ rule for perturbation theory, to compute the order of the error in a given sum-of-squares ansatz. We also give a method for finding solutions of the dual semidefinite program, based on a perturbative ansatz combined with a self-consistent method. As an illustration, we show that for a class of model Hamiltonians (with a gap in the quadratic term and quartic terms chosen as i.i.d. Gaussians), this self-consistent sum-of-squares method significantly improves over the 2RDM method in both speed and accuracy, and also improves over low order perturbation theory. We then explain why the particular ansatz we implement is not suitable for use for quantum chemistry Hamiltonians (due to presence of certain large diagonal terms), but we suggest a modified ansatz that may be suitable, which will be the subject of future work.

Geometrically constrained sine-Gordon field: BPS solitons and their collisions

Abstract:We consider an enlarged $(1+1)$-dimensional model with two real scalar fields, $\phi$ and $\chi$ whose scalar potential $V(\phi,\chi)$ has a standard $\chi^4$ sector and a sine-Gordon one for $\phi$. These fields are coupled through a generalizing function $f(\chi)$ that appears in the scalar potential and controls the nontrivial dynamics of $\phi$. We minimize the effective energy via the implementation of the BPS technique. We then obtain the Bogomol'nyi bound for the energy and the first-order equations whose solutions saturate that bound. We solve these equations for a nontrivial $f(\chi)$. As the result, BPS kinks with internal structures emerge. They exhibit a two-kink profile. i.e. an effect due to geometrical constrictions. We consider the linear stability of these new configurations. In this sense, we study the existence of internal modes that play an important role during the scattering process. We then investigate the kink-antikink collisions, and present the numerical results for the most interesting cases. We also comment about their most relevant features.

Abstract:The sine-Gordon expansion method; which is a transformation of the sine-Gordon equation has been applied to the potential-YTSF equation of dimension (3+1) and the reaction-diffusion equation. We obtain new solitons of this equation in the form hyperbolic, complex and trigonometric function by using this method. We plot 2D and 3D graphics of these solutions using symbolic software.

Abstract:We present the first exact theory and analytical formulas for the large-scale phase fluctuations in the sine-Gordon model, valid in all regimes of the field theory, for arbitrary temperatures and interaction strengths. Our result is based on the Ballistic Fluctuation Theory combined with Generalized Hydrodynamics, and can be seen as an exact ``dressing" of the phenomenological soliton-gas picture first introduced by Sachdev and Young [S. Sachdev and A. P. Young, PRL 78, 2220 (1997)], to the modes of Generalised Hydrodynamics. The resulting physics of phase fluctuations in the sine-Gordon model is qualitatively different, as the stable quasi-particles of integrability give coherent ballistic propagation instead of diffusive spreading. We provide extensive numerical checks of our analytical predictions within the classical regime of the field theory by using Monte Carlo methods. We discuss how our results are of ready applicability to experiments on tunnel-coupled quasicondensates.

Abstract:In this work, the time-fractional sine-Gordon equation with Neumann boundary conditions is considered, where the solutions exhibit typical weak singularities at initial time. By introducing an intermediate variable, the original problem can be equivalently written as a low-order coupled system. Utilizing the nonuniform corrected L1 scheme in time and the finite difference scheme in space, a fully discrete scheme is constructed for the coupled system. Furthermore, the stability of the proposed scheme is rigorously established. Meanwhile, a sharp pointwise-in-time error analysis is developed. In particular, the deriving convergent result implies that the error away from the initial time reaches the optimal convergence rate of 2−α/2 by merely taking the grading parameter r=1 for any 1<α<2 . Finally, numerical results are provided to verify that the proposed scheme achieves optimal convergence rates in both temporal and spatial directions.

Abstract:We have developed a quantum-mechanical approach to study the critical properties of the quantum sine-Gordon equation describing a massless scalar field in 1 + 1 space-time dimensions with interaction density proportional to cos(beta-0-phi). The main feature of the present theory is to find an appropriate starting point for perturbation expansion, which can directly treat the infrared divergences encountered in the conventional perturbation theory. Exact critical conditions for the phase transition of the model are derived; and the quantum sine-Gordon Hamiltonian is found to correspond exactly to a free-field model. Near the critical regime, a gap will open near zero momentum in the excitation spectrum, and the corresponding ground-state wave function is a pairing quasiparticle state, analogous to the BCS superconducting state. It is proved that this ground state will possess quasi-long-range and quasi-off-diagonal long-range correlations. Comparisons with the Kosterlitz-Thouless classical theory of the two-dimensional Coulomb gas are also made.

Abstract:In the paper, the existence of soliton and periodic solutions is studied for the perturbed sine–cosine–Gordon equation. The corresponding traveling wave system is converted to a regularly Hamilton system via using bifurcation theory of differential equations and the geometric singular perturbation theory. Then by using Melnikov's method and symbolic computation, periodic wave solutions, solitary solutions, and kink and antikink solutions are obtained. The wave speed selection principles are given, respectively. Numerical simulations are performed to illustrate our theoretical analysis.

Abstract:A new general approach is introduced for definining an optimum zero-order Hamiltonian for Rayleigh-Schrödinger perturbation theory. Instead of taking the operator directly from a model problem, it is constructed to be a best fit to the exact Hamiltonian within any desired functional form. When applied to many-body perturbation theory for electrons, strongly improved convergence is observed in cases where the conventional Fock hamiltonian leads to divergence or slow convergence.

Abstract:We develop a stochastic analysis of the sine-Gordon Euclidean quantum field $(\cos (\beta \varphi))_2$ on the full space up to the second threshold, i.e. for $\beta^2 < 6 \pi$. The basis of our method is a forward-backward stochastic differential equation (FBSDE) for a decomposition $(X_t)_{t \geqslant 0}$ of the interacting Euclidean field $X_{\infty}$ along a scale parameter $t \geqslant 0$. This FBSDE describes the optimiser of the stochastic control representation of the Euclidean QFT introduced by Barashkov and one of the authors. We show that the FBSDE provides a description of the interacting field without cut-offs and that it can be used effectively to study the sine-Gordon measure to obtain results about large deviations, integrability, decay of correlations for local observables, singularity with respect to the free field, Osterwalder-Schrader axioms and other properties.

Abstract:In this paper, a family of linear structure-preserving (energy conservation) schemes with second-order accuracy in the time direction is developed to numerically solve the undamped sine–Gordon equation. To be specific, first, transformation of the undamped sine–Gordon system into an equivalent new system is made by introducing an improved scalar auxiliary variable (SAV), and generalization of the conservative Crank–Nicolson scheme is made by applying a non-negative family parameter <math>ϑ</math> to discretize time-dependent variables at the time step <math>(n+ϑ)</math> instead of just <math>(n+1∕2)</math>, thereby to establish a family of second-order conservative semi-discrete schemes. Further, based on the advantages of the improved SAV method, not only does the newly introduced scalar auxiliary variable be uncoupled with the original variables at the discrete level, it also requires the family of approximations, at each time step, no more efforts than the solution of a second-order linear differential equation of elliptic type with constant coefficients, making the computational cost of this method only half of the original one, which thus is particularly effective. Finally, several numerical experiments are presented to demonstrate the efficiency, stability, accuracy and energy conservation of the family of schemes developed herein.

Abstract:The (3+1)-dimensional double sine-Gordon equation plays a crucial role in various physical phenomena, including nonlinear wave propagation, field theory, and condensed matter physics. However, obtaining exact solutions to this equation faces significant challenges. In this article, we successfully employ a modified -expansion and improved -expansion methods to construct new analytical solutions to the double sine-Gordon equation. These solutions can be divided into four categories like trigonometric function solutions, hyperbolic function solutions, exponential solutions, and rational solutions. Our key findings include a rich spectrum of soliton solutions, encompassing bright, dark, singular, periodic, and mixed types, showcasing the (3+1)-dimensional double sine-Gordon equation ability to model diverse wave behaviors. We uncover previously unreported complex wave structures, revealing the potential for complex nonlinear interactions within the (3+1)-dimensional double sine-Gordon equation framework. We demonstrate the modified -expansion and improved -expansion methods effectiveness in handling higher-dimensional nonlinear partial differential equations, expanding their applicability in mathematical physics. These method offers enhanced flexibility and broader solution categories compared to conventional approaches.

Abstract:Infinitely many nonlocal symmetries and conservation laws of the (1+1)-dimensional Sine-Gordon (SG) equation are derived in terms of its Bäcklund transformation (BT). Some special nonlocal symmetries and nonlocal conservation laws are obtained from the linearized equations of the SG equation and its BT. Furthermore, one can derive infinitely many nonlocal symmetries from a known nonlocal symmetry, but also infinitely many nonlocal conservation laws from a known nonlocal conservation law. In addition, infinitely many local and nonlocal conservation laws can be directed generated from BT through the parameter expansion procedure.

Abstract:This work offers a new prospective on asymptotic perturbation theory for varying self-adjoint extensions of symmetric operators. Employing symplectic formulation of self-adjointness we obtain a new version of Krein formula for resolvent difference which facilitates asymptotic analysis of resolvent operators via first order expansion for the family of Lagrangian planes associated with perturbed operators. Specifically, we derive a Riccati-type differential equation and the first order asymptotic expansion for resolvents of self-adjoint extensions determined by smooth one-parameter families of Lagrangian planes. This asymptotic perturbation theory yields a symplectic version of the abstract Kato selection theorem and Hadamard-Rellich-type variational formula for slopes of multiple eigenvalue curves bifurcating from an eigenvalue of the unperturbed operator. The latter, in turn, gives a general infinitesimal version of the celebrated formula equating the spectral flow of a path of self-adjoint extensions and the Maslov index of the corresponding path of Lagrangian planes. Applications are given to quantum graphs, periodic Kronig-Penney model, elliptic second order partial differential operators with Robin boundary conditions, and physically relevant heat equations with thermal conductivity.
