Abstract:In large parking lots, it is generally difficult for drivers to know ahead of time whether there will be available parking spots and where they are. Besides, it is logistically cumbersome to wait in line for paying parking fees when leaving. In this demo, we develop an intelligent parking system called iParking. iParking could help users monitor parking states, search for a vacant parking spot, reserve it and make a self-service payment. It is low-cost providing much convenience for both drivers and parking lot management.

Abstract:In this paper the necessity and importance of the studying on the problem of parking is analyzed first, then aiming at the parking problem that exists in China, the main reasons is concluded in four aspects: no adequate parking supply is in a certain area, illegal parking is very familiar in the city, the parking plan can not be ensured to be implemented in actual, and existing parking lots are not well used. After reviewing the parking demand predicting method for the parking planning at present, comparing the application scope of each method and analyzing the advantage and disadvantage of each method, and on the basis of above work, the basic parking planning idea and the method of parking planning which was suitable for China is put forward. In the end of the paper a concrete city -XiaoShan is chosen as a typical case to make a deep study.

Abstract:Based on the double object-function constraints of parking guidance and traffic flow control, optimization model of parking guidance coordinated with traffic flow control was constructed. Under restrictive conditions, such as spare parking saturation and traffic flow saturation of road segment, the hierarchy search model was established to confirm the initialized results. Sequence of initial spare project was studied by fuzzy algorithm. The original results of each spare park were standardized through subordinate function. The optimized results were got through the close rate between the spare project and standard project. At last, the model was validated by an example of parking section in central city of Tongling of Anhui Province. It shows that the model can be applied successfully.

Abstract:The demand for parking spaces in city centers often exceeds the supply. The spatial distribution of such spaces is uneven, which leads to the overheating of hot parking lots. To balance existing conflicts, parking charge and reservation mechanisms are usually utilized to improve the overall efficiency of parking spaces. This study aims to analyze and compare the benefits of these instruments and provide operational suggestions for urban parking managers. To achieve this goal, we introduce an agent simulation system and construct a simulation framework of parking charge and reservation. Then, the average travel time and total parking space utilization time are combined as a comprehensive benefit with different weights, and the benefits of parking charge and reservation are analyzed and compared under the corresponding weight. Parking charge and reservation are considered comprehensively in a combined simulation example. Results show that parking charge and reservation can remarkably improve the comprehensive benefit, and parking charge can achieve the maximum comprehensive benefit when the fee is high. When the fee is low, such as less than 26 yuan/h, the reservation mechanism can achieve a good level of benefit. Thus, parking reservation in most cities in China is an effective means to manage popular parking lots when the parking fee is low and difficult to increase.

Abstract:The invention discloses an intelligent parking control system for a parking place. The system comprises a cloud control server, an intelligent parking server and an intelligent terminal, wherein the intelligent parking server comprises a plurality of detectors, a path guiding unit, a reservation unit, an access control unit, an exit unit, an entrance unit, a central controller and a security early warning unit; the plurality of detectors, the path guiding unit, the reservation unit, the access control unit, the exit unit, the entrance unit and the security early warning unit are connected by a real-time bus; and the exit unit is in communication connection with the entrance unit via the central controller. The intelligent parking control system realizes all-directional parking control, and has positive advantages.

Mirroring the Parking Target: An Optimal-Control-Based Parking Motion Planner with Strengthened Parking Reliability and Faster Parking Completion

Abstract:Automated Parking Assist (APA) systems are now facing great challenges of low adoption in applications, due to users' concerns about parking capability, reliability, and completion efficiency. To upgrade the conventional APA planners and enhance user's acceptance, this research proposes an optimal-control-based parking motion planner. Its highlight lies in its control logic: planning trajectories by mirroring the parking target. This method enables: i) parking capability in narrow spaces; ii) better parking reliability by expanding Operation Design Domain (ODD); iii) faster completion of parking process; iv) enhanced computational efficiency; v) universal to all types of parking. A comprehensive evaluation is conducted. Results demonstrate the proposed planner does enhance parking success rate by 40.6%, improve parking completion efficiency by 18.0%, and expand ODD by 86.1%. It shows its superiority in difficult parking cases, such as the parallel parking scenario and narrow spaces. Moreover, the average computation time of the proposed planner is 74 milliseconds. Results indicate that the proposed planner is ready for real-time commercial applications.

Abstract:Urban parking problem has plagued people's daily travel and puts a huge pressure on road traffic. In the case of free parking spaces in short supply, improving the utilization of parking spaces is one important way to solve the puzzle. Firstly, this paper develops a system prototype based on radio frequency identification technology and Baidu map API, obtaining real-time information on vacant parking spaces, capturing the driver request and providing parking spaces booking;then it quantifies the weight of four factors which influence the driver's selection on parking spaces:the driving time from the current position to the parking lot, parking fee, the walking distance from parking lot to the right destination and the number of vacant parking lots. Then, in consideration of the vacant spaces are limited and real-time traffic conditions, the paper proposes a parking assignment model with 4 condition matrix, uniting the goal of user and system to a final goal which is to increase parking lots utilization. Finally, by using the Beijing road network data , traffic data , parking spaces data and other data in ArcGIS , a test is done, the test results show that , compared with ArcGIS location allocation model, the proposed allocation model is better, whose total system costs increased by 5%and the average utilization rate of parking spaces increased by 9%, the model is feasible.

Abstract:In the process of urbanization in China, the scarcity of land resources has led to an increasingly prominent contradiction between the growth of automobile stocks and parking space availability. The escalating number of private vehicles has become a significant contributor to traffic congestion. This paper aims to delve into the issue of urban parking difficulties and explore associated management strategies. Firstly, through a literature analysis approach, a comprehensive examination of domestic and international parking problems is conducted, revealing a severe situation in China that necessitates the formulation of pertinent strategies. Secondly, case studies on different regions are undertaken from the perspectives of current parking situations and management countermeasures, providing valuable insights and references for addressing China's parking challenges. In response to urban parking difficulties, this paper proposes two strategies: first, "source expansion" by increasing the supply of parking spaces, and second, "streamlining" by restricting private vehicle access. To address parking challenges, strategies such as constructing landscape eco-parking lots, intelligent multi-level garages, developing smart parking systems, and implementing tidal parking are suggested. Additionally, shared parking is considered an effective method to reduce the number of privately owned vehicles in urban areas. Furthermore, resolving urban parking issues should prioritize social benefits, advocate environmentally friendly transportation, and encourage more residents to enjoy higher-quality urban travel experiences.

Abstract:Parking network, a specified complex network, is proposed to model, simulate, and analyse the failure process of urban parking systems in this paper. This model is applied to the analysis of parking systems in an abstract city grid and the downtown area of Luohu, Shenzhen. The results demonstrate that the parking network can capture subtle variations among various parking cruising behaviours or strategies from a network perspective. Spread of parking difficulty can be regarded as a special cascading failure process of urban parking systems. A comprehensive understanding of this process can be greatly helpful to build a more robust parking system. Parking network, a specified complex network, is proposed to model, simulate, and analyse the failure process of urban parking systems in this paper. This research designs and implements an Android-based intelligent parking reservation management system. It aims to provide convenient and efficient parking services by combining mobile technology with intelligent management. The system includes core functions such as user management, parking facility information retrieval, parking space reservation, and driving navigation, catering to diverse needs in urban parking scenarios. Through rigorous system testing, this solution demonstrates excellent performance in user experience, functionality, and efficiency. The Android-based parking reservation management system proposed in this study offers an innovative solution to address urban parking challenges. It paves the way for new possibilities in smart city transportation management.

Abstract:Parking remains a serious difficulty in metropolitan transport mainly because of the supply shortage in downtown areas. The parking experience will be improved with the support of connected and automated vehicle (CAV) technologies, enabled by remote parking functionality. Nevertheless, remote parking of CAVs not only results in additional surface traffic but also in-creases the total vehicle miles traveled (VMT). On the other hand, it is possible to manage the overall traffic by a centralized system with the assistance of CAV technology, which brings the potential for using road resources more flexibly. Inspired by the above ideas, this paper in-vestigates a novel scheme to transfer some lanes to provide on-street parking spaces for CAVs within a necessary period to reduce "cruise-for-parking " travel; as such transfer compromises road capacity, a methodological framework is required to optimally plan the scheme for maxi-mizing certain social goals. We formulate the on-street planning problem as a multi-period mixed -integer linear program with inter-period constraints, which determines the locations and opening durations of on-street parking lots, as well as the assignment of all parking demands across the network. Approximate approaches are adopted to solve the problem for large-scale instances. Numerical experiments are conducted on a real-world network in Wangjing District, Beijing. The results indicate that appropriate time-dependent planning of on-street parking can reduce the total VMT by 10%-27% under various demand levels.

Abstract:With the development of the world, people's living standard has also improved significantly. At present, self-driving has become one of the popular ways to travel, but this improvement in living standard has also brought some problems such as "difficult parking" and "indiscriminate parking" to the society. In order to solve the problem, our country has launched the decision to develop smart parking. In the case of Shenyang, starting from 2018, due to the substantial growth of civilian car ownership in Shenyang, in order to alleviate the problems of "difficult parking" and "indiscriminate parking", the relevant areas in Shenyang began to develop smart parking. The current smart parking service mainly adopts two billing methods: mobile video collection vehicle billing and manual billing, and this paper analyzes the route planning and possible benefits of the smart parking service by establishing an appropriate mathematical model to obtain the final optimized design scheme.
