Abstract:Using the Chinese Education Panel Survey (CEPS) data conducted by National Survey Research Center (NSRC) Renmin University of China,we examine the gender difference in job hunting of college graduates. We focus on the influence of social capital between male and female graduates. Results show that female graduates’ social capital, especially their ability to attain social capital,is higher than male counterparts. But there are significant differences of the effect of social capital on job hunting between male and female graduates.Compared to female, social capital plays a greater role in male employment.Stereotypical gender awareness will hinder the role of social capital in promoting the employment probability of female graduates, making it difficult to narrow the gender difference in labor market outcomes of graduates.
