Abstract:In this paper, a solution based on Real-time Video System of H.264 has been introduced and the flow chart of encoding and decoding has been provided separately. We have engaged in the real-time simulation with standard tests codes JM10.2 of H.264 and achieved a better speech quality.

Abstract:Aiming at the problems of the falling decoded video quality of H.264/SVC (Scalable Video Coding) in the error prone transmission network, this paper proposes real-time feedback-based interactive error control methods suitable for low bit rate transmission. These methods make full use of the inter-layer prediction of spatial layers, improves the conventional feedback-based intra macro block (MB) update and references picture selection (RPS) error resilience techniques. The methods were tested using SVC common test conditions. Simulation results show that the average Y-PSNR of decoded pictures can achieve around 1.78dB gains using the best proposed method compared with the relative methods.
Real-time Video Transcoding System for Mobile Networks

Abstract:Video transcoding is emerging as a key technology to provide video streaming service for mobile devices on wireless networks when using video sources from broadband IPTV. This paper designs and develops a software implemented real-time video transcoding system which can convert high bit-rate,high resolution MPEG-4 video sources to low bit-rate,low resolution video in real-time to support video streaming over mobile networks. An adaptive transcoding scheme with delay guarantee is proposed in the paper based on the well-known drift compensation transcoding architecture. This scheme not only leverages the computation complexity and video quality but also ensures the extra delay caused by transcoding process. Experimental results illustrates that the system can achieve real-time transcoding with little quality degradation.

Abstract:Error robust video communication for hand-held devices is a delicate task because of limited computational resources and hostile channel conditions in mobile environments. The loss of coded video data on the channel can result in spatio-temporal error propagation in the video. In addition, stringent end-to-end delays for conversational applications make this challenge even more difficult. In this work, we investigate several techniques which exploit feedback from the receiver to enhance the performance of conversational video in realistic mobile communication environments. Specifically, we show how a low-complexity interactive error tracking technique can be combined with multiple reference picture selection (RPS) based on the existing syntax of H.264/AVC. This technique outperforms other interactive error protection strategies by a margin of more than 2 dB for moderate channel loss rates, with minimal impact on end-to-end delays.

Abstract:The characteristics of the mobile wireless network are limited bandwidth and high error rate, at same time the computing and storage capacity of the mobile devices are limited too. In order to ensure effective video compression and transmission, H.264/AVC standard provides the significant technologies and strategies in error resilience strategies, rate control, mode decision and scalable extension. On the basis of the detailed study in the strategies, a combination method is proposed, and experiment proves the quality of video transmission is improved at the same time the rate is reduced.

Abstract:The emergence of H.264/AVC video compression standard provides better support functions for wireless network. The characteristics of limited bandwidth, high error rate of wireless channel and the constraints of computing and storage capacity of most mobile devices make the key technology of video codec in error resilience strategies, rate control, mode decision and scalable extension more important. In this paper, we first analyze the main and popular strategies in the key technology, and then we propose a method to choose and combine these strategies to validate the results and performance by experiment. Experiment shows the rational use of these technologies improves the quality of video transmission and provides reference for the video service evaluation.

Abstract:The emerging of third generation mobile system (3G) makes various video applications in wireless environment possible. Scalable video codec (SVC) is the latest amendment for H.264/AVC that allows efficient, standard-based temporal, spatial, and quality scalability of video bit streams. The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) video services, e.g. multimedia broadcast/multicast services (MBMS), packet-switched streaming service (PSS) etc., may greatly benefit from the adoption of SVC. And 3GPP has been gradually discussing to select SVC as one of the video codec tools in 3G. But not every key technology of SVC can be implemented because of 3G wireless network's characteristic of time variation, high bit error rate, limited bandwidth, and 3G mobile terminal's limitation. So we analyze the key technology that adapts to 3G in this paper, and present compressed SVC video transmission in 3G wireless network together with the offline video transmission simulation in 3G wireless network. Here we modify the VCEG offline 3G transmission simulation model to transmit SVC byte stream format, moreover test and show the effect of SVC error resilient tools by using the model.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose an error resilient transmission system for reliable transmission of H.263 coded video sequence over mobile networks. Both the coded video characteristics and mobile channel statistics are investigated. The error protection schemes are designed based on the best matched block codes coupled with diversity reception. A low complexity error concealment based on prediction of inter-block correlation is also introduced to effectively reconstruct the damaged image blocks caused by the residual errors. Simulations with different test video sequences under various mobile channel conditions confirm that good visual quality can be achieved by the proposed system

Abstract:We develop a unique set of techniques to support reliable and efficient video transmission over bandwidth limited mobile networks. The video coder is based on H.263 coding standard while its transmission system design is based on efficient and effective fading countermeasures and robust decoding. In particular, combined source and channel coding coupled with diversity reception substantially improves the error resilience capability of H.263 coded video as well as the efficiency of the proposed transmission system. Moreover, robust decoding is accomplished by the use of a look-ahead strategy and a combined spatial-temporal concealment. Simulation results confirm that the proposed system can yield very good visual quality and high transmission efficiency

Abstract:With the rapid development of wireless networks and consumer electronics, various mobile applications have emerged. However, due to some constraints such as weak computational power, limited memory and small display screen, traditional video coding applications can not work well on mobile devices. In this paper, we proposed a software-based video codec framework and its implementation which is suitable for real-time video coding applications on mobile devices. Some key optimizing techniques, such as fast predictive motion estimation (ME), zero-coefficients prejudgment and multiplierless integer discrete cosine transform (DCT), are used in our codec. Experimental results demonstrate the flexibility of our framework and the good speedup we achieved while video quality degradation is negligible. The codec is suitable for scenarios where low-complexity computing is required.

Abstract:As an efficient technology for lossy data compression, vector quantization (VQ) is widely used in the field of image coding with the virtues of simple algorithm and high compression rate. ITU-H.264 is a video coding standard published in March, 2005. The framework of H.264 is not much different compared to those previous standards, but it improves each function by adopting mature techniques, so H.264 has the highest coding efficiency, yet with highest complexity. Generally speaking, H.264 is still a video compression based on transformation. Considering the weakness of high complexity of H.264 and the advantage of simple structure and low coding complexity of VQ technology, this paper proposes a novel predictive VQ based video compression scheme, which uses H.264 standards coding method for reference and combines VQ techniques. It uses the minimax partial distortion competitive learning method to generate a public codebook, making sure that only codeword indices need to be transmitted after video sequence compression. It uses the mean-distance-ordered partial codebook search algorithm for fast code vector searching, which uses the mean of input vectors to reduce the computing expense dramatically without performance loss. Experiment results show that this scheme, with the reduction of the computing complexity and the promotion of coding efficiency, gives a tradeoff of expense and quality. It can be used in real time occasions and mobile handset equipments with limited computing capability.

Abstract:With the fast development of multimedia, network technique and mobile communication, the application of video communi- cation has become more and more popular.video needs compression, which makes video data with highly sensitivity to error code in the transmission. Unfortunately, error code and loss of data can' t be avoided in wireless network, so it is necessary to make use of the error control techniques to transmit video over wireless network. An error control technique for transmitting video streaming is pro- posed in this paper, including an adaptive rate control method, macro block reordering process in the encoder and an improved error concealment algorithm in the decoder.The result of experiment shows that the proposed methods can improve the quality of video transmission over wireless network effectively.

Abstract:We develop a unique set of techniques to support reliable and efficient video transmission over bandwidth-limited mobile networks. The video coder is based on the H.263 coding standard, while its transmission system design is based on a joint study of combined source and channel coding, diversity reception, and pre/postprocessing techniques. In particular, a finite-state Markov model for representing a correlated fading channel with diversity is developed. Based on this model, a recursive algorithm is further devised for an efficient estimation of block-code performance. By doing so, an important means for finding proper diversity and channel coding schemes for correlated video data in correlated fading channels is obtained. In addition, robust decoding together with a combined spatial-temporal concealment is employed to mitigate the effects of decoding mismatch caused by residual errors. Simulation results confirm that the proposed system can significantly reduce the bursty error effects on the H.263 coded video data while maintaining high transmission efficiency.

Abstract:Extensive researches have been conducted to enhance robustness for Internet video transmission. It has been found that feedback channel is an effective tool to provide error recovery ability and it is most suitable for interactive and conversational environments. Multiframe is another useful approach to enhance both coding efficiency and robustness. In this paper, we propose an algorithm which combines feedback channel and multiframe to achieve rapid error recovery ability for H.264 video. Simulation results show that our scheme can best utilize the feedback information. At the end of this paper, its application in conversational services such as Internet videophone is discussed.

Abstract:The issue of real-time coding and transmission of video over WLAN is discussed. First, a modified hybrid ARQ/FEC algorithm, based on the characteristic of video coding, which improves the performance of video transmission, is proposed. To prevent the temporal error propagation, an error resilient video algorithm, with select intact reference frames or intra coding according to the backward channel signaling, is proposed as well.

Abstract:The error resilience of video codec in wireless transmission environments is improved with a video error resilience algorithm, based on classic video analysis theory which alleviates error propagation caused by lost frames. The system adapts to practical scalable wireless transmission environments with video errors to greatly enhance error correction performance in the video receiver. Experiments on the H.263 codec show that the algorithm reduces error propagation caused by lost packets to provide better objective and subjective video quality.

Abstract:This paper proposes a set of resident algorithms in conjunction with the H.263 standard to support video transmission over mobile radio channels. Specifically, an adaptive stream-shuffling scheme is proposed to mitigate the effects of burst-errors in mobile channels, while an efficient error detection and a bi-directional error concealment algorithm, which exploits the inherent correlation and the error resilient diversity of PB coding mode in an H.263 coded bit stream, are effectively incorporated. Simulations show that this set of algorithms can achieve an efficient and effective video transmission in most of wireless environments

Abstract:We construct a low-bit rate multimedia communication system (LBMCS) and propose a new fast motion estimation algorithm which guarantees the implementation of a software-based H.263 codec. Based on this system we implement some practical functions such as remote monitor, videophone, audio recording, video recording, facsimile (FAX) and white board. Besides discussing the hardware structure and software frameworks of the system, we place the emphasis on the efficient implementation of the H.263 codec where the improvement in half-pel estimation is mentioned, and a novel search algorithm SSS (synthetical switch search) is expatiated on.
