Abstract:In this paper, various kinds of invariants of directed graphs are summarized. In the first topic, the invariant w(G) for a directed graph G is introduced, which is primarily defined by S. Chen and X.M. Chen to solve a problem of weak connectedness of tensor product of two directed graphs. Further, we present our recent studies on the invariant w(G) in categorical view. In the second topic, Homology theory on directed graph is introduced, and we also cast on categorical view of the definition. The third topic mainly focuses on Laplacians on graphs, including traditional work and latest result of 1-laplacian by K.C.Chang. Finally, Zeta functions and Graded graphs are introduced, inclduing Bratteli-Vershik diagram, dual graded graphs and differential posets, with some applications in dynamic system.

Abstract:Let G be a simple, undirected graph and Gw be the weighted graph obtained from G by giving weights to its edges using a positive weight function w. A weighted graph Gw is said to be nonsingular if its adjacency matrix A(Gw) is nonsingular. In [9], Godsil has given a class $\mathcal{G }$of connected, unweighted, bipartite, nonsingular graphs G with a unique perfect matching, such that A(G)â1 is signature similar to a nonnegative matrix, that is, there exists a diagonal matrix D with diagonal entries Â±1 such that DA(G)â1D is nonnegative. The graph associated to the matrix DA(G)â1D is called the inverse of G and it is denoted by G+. The graph G+ is an undirected, weighted, connected, bipartite graph with a unique perfect matching. Nonsingular, unweighted trees are contained inside the class G. We first give a constructive characterization of the class of weighted graphs Hw that can occur as the inverse of some graph Gâ\mathcal{ G}. This generalizes Theorem 2.6 of Neumann and Pati[13], where the authors have characterized graphs that occur as inverses of nonsingular, unweighted trees. A weighted graph Gw is said to have the property (R) if for each eigenvalue Î» of A(Gw), 1âÎ» is also an eigenvalue of A(Gw). If further, the multiplicity of Î» and 1âÎ» are the same, then Gw is said to have property (SR). A characterization of the class of nonsingular, weighted trees Tw with at least 8 vertices that have property (R) was given in [13] under some restriction on the weights. It is natural to ask for such a characterization for the whole of G, possibly with some weaker restrictions on the weights. We supply such a characterization. In particular, for trees it settles an open problem raised in [13].

Abstract:In this paper we are concerned with various graph invariants (girth, diameter, expansion constants, eigenvalues of the Laplacian, tree number) and their analogs for weighted graphs -- weighing the graph changes a combinatorial problem to one in analysis. We study both weighted and unweighted graphs which are extremal for these invariants. In the unweighted case we concentrate on finding extrema among all (usually) regular graphs with the same number of vertices; we also study the relationships between such graphs.

Abstract:For an oriented tree, we compute several graph invariants, including the minimal norm of the generalized inverse and the norm of the Moore–Penrose inverse of its incidence matrix. We present equivalent characterizations of these invariants in terms of the minimal ratios of vector norms related to the oriented tree’s incidence matrix. We also provide a method to find the optimal vertex cut and edge cut with respect to these invariants.

Abstract: We study free scalar field theory on a graph, which gives rise to a modified version of discrete Green's function on a graph studied in \cite{CY}. We show that this gives rise to a graph invariant, which is closely related to the 2-dim Weisfeiler-Lehman algorithm for graph isomorphism testing. We complement this invariant by another type of graph invariants, coming from viewing graphs as quadratic forms over the integers. We explain that the combination of these two ideas give rise to an interesting approach to the graph isomorphism problem.

Abstract:Let $\ell$ be a prime number. The Iwasawa theory of multigraphs is the systematic study of growth patterns in the number of spanning trees in abelian $\ell$-towers of multigraphs. In this context, growth patterns are realized by certain analogues of Iwasawa invariants, which depend on the prime $\ell$ and the abelian $\ell$-tower of multigraphs. We formulate and study statistical questions about the behaviour of the Iwasawa $\mu$ and $\lambda$ invariants.

Weighted Analytic Torsion for Weighted Digraphs

Abstract:In 2020, Alexander Grigor'yan, Yong Lin and Shing-Tung Yau [4] introduced the Reidemeister torsion and the analytic torsion for digraphs by means of the path complex and the path homology theory. Based on the analytic torsion for digraphs introduced in [4], we consider the notion of weighted analytic torsion for vertex-weighted digraphs. For any non-vanishing real functions $f$ and $g$ on the vertex set, we consider the vertex-weighted digraphs with the weights $(f,g)$. We calculate the $(f,g)$-weighted analytic torsion by examples and prove that the $(f,g)$-weighted analytic torsion only depend on the ratio $f/g$. In particular, if the weight is of the diagonal form $(f,f)$, then the weighted analytic torsion equals to the usual (un-weighted) torsion.

Abstract:We focus on two specific generalizations of the chromatic symmetric function: one involving universal graphs and the other concerning vertex-weighted graphs. In this paper, we introduce a unified generalization that incorporates both approaches and demonstrate that the resulting new invariants inherit characteristics from each, particularly the properties of complete invariants. Additionally, we construct complete invariants for directed acyclic graphs (DAGs) and partially ordered sets (posets). As a corollary, these invariants can distinguish hyperplane arrangements that are distinguishable by their intersection posets.

Abstract:Let $D$ be a weighted oriented graph with the underlying graph $G$ when vertices with non-trivial weights are sinks and $I(D), I(G) $ be the edge ideals corresponding to $D$ and $G,$ respectively. We give explicit description of the symbolic powers of $I(D)$ using the concept of strong vertex covers. We show that the ordinary and symbolic powers of $I(D)$ and $I(G)$ behave in a similar way. We provide a description for symbolic powers and Waldschmidt constant of $I(D)$ for certain classes of weighted oriented graphs. When $D$ is a weighted oriented odd cycle we compute $\reg (I(D)^{(s)}/I(D)^s)$ and prove $\reg I(D)^{(s)}\leq\reg I(D)^s$ and show that equality holds when there is only one vertex with non-trivial weight.

Abstract:SIAM Journal on Discrete Mathematics, Volume 35, Issue 2 , Page 1503-1524, January 2021. Jerrum, Sinclair, and Vigoda [J. ACM, 51 (2004), pp. 671--697] showed that the permanent of any square matrix can be estimated in polynomial time. This computation can be viewed as approximating the partition function of edge-weighted matchings in a bipartite graph. Equivalently, this may be viewed as approximating the partition function of vertex-weighted independent sets in the line graph of a bipartite graph. Line graphs of bipartite graphs are perfect graphs and are known to be precisely the class of (claw, diamond, odd hole)-free graphs. So how far does the result of Jerrum, Sinclair, and Vigoda extend? We first show that it extends to (claw, odd hole)-free graphs, and then show that it extends to the even larger class of (fork, odd hole)-free graphs. Our techniques are based on graph decompositions, which have been the focus of much recent work in structural graph theory, and on structural results of Chvátal and Sbihi [J. Combin. Theory Ser. B, 44 (1988)], Maffray and Reed [J. Combin. Theory Ser. B, 75 (1999)], and Lozin and Milanič [J. Discrete Algorithms, 6 (2008), pp. 595--604].

Abstract:Let p be normal singularity of the 2-dimensional Stein space V. Let pi: M -> V be a minimal good resolution of V, such that the irreducible components A(i) of A = pi(-1)(p) are nonsingular and have only normal crossings. Associated to A is weighted dual graph G which, along with the genera of the Ai, fully describes the topology and differentiable structure of A and the topological and differentiable nature of the embedding of A in M. In this paper we give the complete classification of weighted dual graphs which have only complete intersection singularities but no hypersurface singularities associated to them. We also give the complete classification of weighted dual graphs which have only complete intersection singularities associated with them.

Abstract:Journal of Algebra and Its Applications, Ahead of Print. This paper describes the primary decomposition of the edge ideal of the join of weighted oriented graphs in terms of the information from each of those graphs. Using this decomposition and induction, we derive formulas for the depth and regularity of ordinary powers of the edge ideal of the join of two graphs consisting of isolated vertices. Furthermore, we provide upper bounds for the regularity of symbolic powers of such an edge ideal. For the edge ideal of the join of two graphs with at least one oriented edge for each graph, we provide exact formulas for their depth and regularity, as well as upper bounds for the regularity of ordinary powers of such an edge ideal. Some examples demonstrate that these upper bounds are sometimes attainable and sometimes strict.

Abstract:Let $D$ be a weighted oriented graph and $I(D)$ be its edge ideal. We provide one method to find all the minimal generators of $ I_{\subseteq C} $, where $ C $ is a maximal strong vertex cover of $D$ and $ I_{\subseteq C} $ is the intersections of irreducible ideals associated to the strong vertex covers contained in $C$. If $ D^{\prime} $ is an induced digraph of $D$, under certain condition on the strong vertex covers of $ D^{\prime} $ and $D$, we show that $ {I(D^{\prime})}^{(s)} \neq {I(D^{\prime})}^s $ for some $s \geq 2$ implies $ {I(D)}^{(s)} \neq {I(D)}^s $. We characterize all the maximal strong vertex covers of $D$ such that at most one edge is oriented into each of its vertex and $w(x) \geq 2$ if $°_D(x)\geq 2 $ for all $x \in V(D)$. If $ D $ is a weighted rooted tree with degree of root is $ 1 $ and $ w(x) \geq 2 $ when $ °_D(x) \geq 2 $ for all $ x \in V(D) $, we show that $ {I(D)}^{(s)} = {I(D)}^s $ for all $s \geq 2$

Abstract:It is known from algebraic graph theory that if L is the Laplacian matrix of some tree G with a vertex degree sequence d=(δ1,…,δn)⊤ and D is its distance matrix, then LD+2I=(2⋅1−d)1⊤, where 1 is an all-ones column vector. We prove the converse proposition: if this identity holds for the Laplacian matrix of some graph G with a degree sequence d and for some matrix D, then G is essentially a tree, and D is its distance matrix. This result immediately generalizes to weighted graphs. Therefore, the above bilinear matrix equation in L, D, and d characterizes trees in terms of their Laplacian and distance matrices, so it can be used as a constraint in mixed-integer formulations of distance-related tree topology design problems (e.g., optimum communication spanning tree or hop-constrained minimum spanning tree problems). If the matrix D is symmetric, the lower triangular part of this matrix identity is redundant and can be omitted, which halves the number of constraints in an optimization problem. Applications to the extremal graph theory (especially, to topological index optimization and to optimal tree problems) and to road topology design are discussed.

Coplanarity of rooted spanning-tree vectors

Abstract:Employing a recent technology of tree surgery we prove a ``deletion-constriction'' formula for products of rooted spanning trees on weighted directed graphs that generalizes deletion-contraction on undirected graphs. The formula implies that, letting $\tau_x^\varnothing$, $\tau_x^+$, and $\tau_x^-$ be the rooted spanning tree polynomials obtained respectively by removing an edge in both directions or by forcing the tree to pass through either direction of that edge, the vectors $(\tau_x^\varnothing, \tau_x^+, \tau_x^-)$ are coplanar for all roots $x$. We deploy the result to give an alternative derivation of a recently found mutual linearity of stationary currents of Markov chains. We generalize deletion-constriction and current linearity among two edges, and conjecture that similar results may hold for arbitrary subsets of edges.

Abstract:Let ( G , w ) be a weighted graph with the adjacency matrix A . The group inverse of ( G , w ), denoted by is the weighted graph with the weight of an edge in is defined as the ij th entry of , the group inverse of A . We study the group inverse of singular weighted trees. It is shown that if ( T , w ) is a singular weighted tree, then is again a weighted tree if and only if ( T , w ) is a star tree, which in turn holds if and only if is graph isomorphic to ( T , w ). A new class of weighted trees is introduced and studied here. It is shown that the group inverse of the adjacency matrix of a positively weighted tree in is signature similar to a non-negative matrix.

Abstract:We present a version of the matrix-tree theorem, which relates the determinant of a matrix to sums of weights of arborescences of its directed graph representation. Our treatment allows for non-zero column sums in the parent matrix by adding a root vertex to the usually considered matrix directed graph. We use our result to prove a version of the matrix-forest, or all-minors, theorem, which relates minors of the matrix to forests of arborescences of the matrix digraph. We then show that it is possible, when the source and target vertices of an arc are not strongly connected, to move the source of the arc in the matrix directed graph and leave the resulting matrix determinant unchanged, as long as the source and target vertices are not strongly connected after the move. This result enables graphical strategies for factoring matrix determinants.

Abstract:By using biclique partitions of digraphs, this paper gives reduction formulas for the number of oriented spanning trees, stationary distribution vector and Kemeny's constant of digraphs. As applications, we give a method for enumerating spanning trees of undirected graphs by vertex degrees and biclique partitions. The biclique partition formula also extends the results of Knuth and Levine from line digraphs to general digraphs.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a graph and $\mathcal{S}$ be a subset of $Z$. A vertex-coloring $\mathcal{S}$-edge-weighting of $G$ is an assignment of weights by the elements of $\mathcal{S}$ to each edge of $G$ so that adjacent vertices have different sums of incident edges weights. It was proved that every 3-connected bipartite graph admits a vertex-coloring $\mathcal{S}$-edge-weighting for $\mathcal{S} = \{1,2 \}$ (H. Lu, Q. Yu and C. Zhang, Vertex-coloring 2-edge-weighting of graphs, European J. Combin., 32 (2011), 22-27). In this paper, we show that every 2-connected and 3-edge-connected bipartite graph admits a vertex-coloring $\mathcal{S}$-edge-weighting for $\mathcal{S} \in \{ \{ 0,1 \} , \{1,2 \} \}$. These bounds we obtain are tight, since there exists a family of infinite bipartite graphs which are 2-connected and do not admit vertex-coloring $\mathcal{S}$-edge-weightings for $\mathcal{S} \in \{ \{ 0,1 \} , \{1,2 \} \}$.
