Abstract:The title compound, (C7H11N2O)(4) [Mo8O26], was synthesized by hydrothermal reaction of an acidified aqueous solution of Na2Mo2O4.2H(2)O, N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-4-aminopyridine sulfate and Zn(CH3COO)(2).4H(2)O. Single X-ray crystal analysis reveals that the structure of the title compound consists of a centrosymmetric beta-octamolybdate anion and N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-4-aminopyridinium cations. The Mo-O bond lengths are in the range 1.687 (4)-1.708 (4) Angstrom for terminal Mo-O bonds and 1.759 (4)-2.437 (4) Angstrom for the Mo-O bonds shared by two or more neighboring {MoO6} octahedra. The O-H...O hydrogen-bond lengths are 2.677 (8)-2.804 (8) Angstrom, and the N-H...N hydrogen-bond lengths are 2.905 (8)- 3.033 (7) Angstrom.

Abstract:The reduction of heptamolybdate in acetic aqueous solution resulted in two polymorphic crystals with composition (NH4)(2)[Y(H2O)(5)](2).[(Mo6Mo4O30)-Mo-VI-O-V(CH3COO)(4)].16H(2)O. This polyanion exhibited a novel ring-like decamolybdate structure. Two Y atoms were captured by the polyanion and covered the central hole of the ring. Mo-V-Mo-V bonds were also found in this mixed-valence compound.

Abstract:The title compound, (C10H10N2)(2)[Mo8O26], was produced by hydrothermal reaction of an acidified aqueous solution of H2MoO4, 4,4'-bipyridine and NiCl2. 6H(2)O. The structure of the title compound consists of the beta -octamolybdate anion having a center of symmetry and protonated 4,4'-bipyridine cations. The distances between Mo and O atoms shared by two or more neighboring {MoO6} octahedra are in the range 1.750 (2)-2.450 (2) Angstrom and those between Mo and terminal O atoms in the range 1.696 (3)-1.720 (3) Angstrom. The N-H . . .O hydrogen-bond lengths are in the range 2.722 (4)-2.755 (4) Angstrom.

Abstract:A new member of giant polyoxomolybdate containing bridging hydroxylamine groups has been unexpectedly obtained during the preparation of the material of {Mo 57 V 6 }, (NH 4 ) 4 Na 2 [Mo VI 36 O 108 (NH 2 OH) 2 (OH) 6 (H 2 O) 12 ]⋅35H 2 O. The title compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/n, a =16.7886(2), b =18.4309(3), c =24.49950(10) Å, β =99.58°, V =7475.18(15) Å 3 , Z =2, and D calc =2.817. Each giant cluster anion [Mo VI 36 O 108 (NH 2 OH) 2 (OH) 6 (H 2 O) 12 ] 6− ( {Mo 36 (NO) 2 } ) consists of two large [Mo VI 15 O 50 (MoO) 4+ 2 ( μ -NH 2 OH)( μ -OH)(t-OH) 2 (t-OH 2 ) 6 ] 5− ({Mo 17 } units linked together by two {MoO 2 } 2+ centers; these anions {Mo 36 (NO) 2 } are further connected via distorted mono-capped pentagonal-pyramidal sodium into a three-dimensional structure with channels that filled with lattic water molecules and NH + 4 ions.

Abstract:A new polyoxometalate (POM)-based compound, {[CuI(bipy)]2[MoV2MoVI6O24]}•H2O (bipy = 4,4' -bipyridine) was hydrothermally synthesized, and characterized by elemental analyses, FT-IR spectrum, Powder X-Ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and single X-ray diffraction. A structural feature of compound 1 is its unprecedented octamolybdate (Mo8) aggregate chain, which was formed via edge-sharing four distorted [MoO6] octahedra of neighbouring Mo8 clusters. An other fascinating structural features of compound 1 is its high-opened framework with rhombic channels constructed by linkages of Mo8 aggregate chains and Cu-bipy coordinated chains. Furthermore, compound 1 exhibits reversible water sorption capability.

Abstract:A series of novel double helicates, {A[Mo2ⅥO4LnⅢ (H2O)6(C4H2O6)2]·4H2O}n(Ln =Sm, Eu, Gd, Ho, Yb, Y; C4H2O6 = L-tartaric acid; A = NH4 or H3O), have been synthesized from the reactions of chiral ligands L-tartaric acid with molybdates as well as lanthanide cations. The architectures of these compounds are one dimensional enantiopure novel right- or left-handed double helical one-dimensional chains, which are somehow like DNA in general configurations. By the hydrothermal reaction method, some molybdenum oxide units such as { MoO4 }, { Mo2 O7 } , { Mo8 O26 } are linked up by transition metal/organic ligand fragments to novel zero-, one-, two- or three-dimensional structures. Most of these compounds have voids, which are occupied by some suitable crystallization herterometallate chemistry containing lanthanide cations that is synthesized by the hydrothermal reaction.The compound is built up by Silverton-type [GdMo12O42 ]9- anions linking up nine coordinated Gd3+cations. It is the first example for introducing a paramagnetic lanthanide cation into the Silverton-type anionic center, which provides a very interesting example for the further synthesis of such a kind of compound/polymer. One-dimensional polymer, [ Cu2 ( C8 H6 N2 )2 ( C7 H6 N2 ) ] 2 [ Mo8 O26 ], which consists of β-[ Mo8 O26 ]4- anions linked by quinoxaline and its oxidized product benzimidazole ligands coordinating binuclear copper(Ⅰ) fragments, provides the first example that the isolated copper(Ⅰ) complex under hydrothermal conditions "captures" the reduction product of original starting organonitrogen ligand to form a copper( Ⅰ )-β-octamolybdate complex.

Abstract:Solid-state reaction of (NH4)(6)Mo7O24.4H(2)O with Bu(4)NBr and NH2OH.HCl at low temperature yields an isopolyoxomolybdate [Bu(4)N](+)(6)[H3O](+)(2)[Mo13O40](4-)(2), the structure of which has been determined by X-ray crystallography. The title compound contains two [Mo13O40](4-) anions which have different symmetry. Both anions have Keggin-type structures with a molybdenum atom centre.

Abstract:Reaction in methanol solution of [NBu4]4[Mo8O26] with 1,3,5,7-tetraazatricyclo[3.3.1.13.7]decane (hexamethylenetetramine, hmt) and salicylaldehyde yielded the complex [Hhmt][Mo2O4(µ-O)(µ-OMe)(o-OC6H4CHNCH2NCHC6H4O-o)] which has been characterized by elemental analysis, IR and 1H NMR spectroscopy. A single-crystal analysis revealed that the complex possesses the usual Mo2O52+ core and that the Schiff-base ligand complexes in a tetradentate manner through the atoms ONON, acts forming two six-membered rings. The two Mo atoms are bridged by a methoxo group, giving each a distorted-octahedral configuration.

Abstract:Two new members of Mo(V) phosphates were synthesized by hydrothermal methods. The structure of 1 consists of sandwich-shaped cluster anion [Na{Mo V 6 O 12 (OH) 3 (HPO 4 )(H 2 PO 4 ) 3 } 2 ] 3− ( {Na(Mo V 6 ) 2 } ) held together via intermolecular hydrogen-bonding contacts. For the compound 2 , the sandwich-shaped clusters Zn[Mo 6 O 12 (OH) 3 (PO 4 )(HPO 4 ) 3 ] 2 ( {Zn(Mo V 6 ) 2 } are linked by tetrahedrally-coordinated zinc into layers. Organic cations ([H 3 N(CH 2 ) 6 NH 3 ] 2+ and [H 3 N(CH 2 ) 6 NH 2 ] + ) are filled in the spaces between lamellas. The layers are held together by a hydrogen-bonded network, which involves the terminal phosphate P-OH groups, as well as organic cations and several waters of solvation.

Abstract:A new dinuclear oxomolybdate complex [(C6H4OCHN(CH2)3NHCOC6H4)2Mo2O3]·2H2O was obtained as black needle crystals by the reaction of MoCl3·3H2O with a specially designed tetradentate Schiff base ligand under solvothermal conditions. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis indicates that it crystallizes in a monoclinic P21/c space group with a rare oxo-bridged dinuclear molybdenum structure. The structure is characterized by two MoO4N2 octahedra sharing a corner oxygen atom in a completely linear MoOMo arrangement. In addition to being the first example of nearly linear OMoOMoO arrangements, the present structure features a MoO single bond at two ends, in sharp contrast with the known OMOMO (M=W, Re) units that contain MO double bonds for terminal oxygen, due to the spatial chelating requirement of the long tetradentate Schiff base ligand. The completely linear MoOMo structure together with the relatively short MoO distance of 1.8819(7) Å suggests the involvement of metal–oxygen π bonding.

Abstract:Two new polyoxomolybdate compounds, namely [Cu-2(II)(HL)(3)](2) [Mo8O26]center dot(H2O)(4) and (1) and [Ni-II(HL)(3)](2)(Mo8O26]center dot(H2O)(3) (HL=3-{2-Pyridyl)pyrazole), were designed and synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. X-ray diffraction analyses reveal that compound 1 consists of one beta-Mo8O264- cluster and a Cu-2 dimer which is built from two Cu(II) ions linked by three 3-(2-pyridyl)pyrazole ligands. Compound 2 is generated by two kinds of polyoxomolybdate clusters of alpha-[Mo8O26](4-) and beta-[Mo8O26](4-). In complexes 1 and 2, the multi-dimensional frameworks are constructed with the help of hydrogen-bonding links between the terminaloxygen atoms of [Mo8O26](4-), water molecules, and 3-(2-pyridyl)pyrazole ligands. Abstract:A novel lanthanum molybdenyl iodate, La(MoO2)(OH)(IO3)4, has been prepared by hydrothermal reactions at 170°C. The X-ray single-crystal structural analysis showed that it crystallizes in the polar and chiral space group P21 with a=7.0513(7)Å, b=14.225(1)Å, c=7.1206(8)Å, β=115.653(8)°, Z=2, R1/wR2=0.0269/0.0608 for 2828 observed reflections, and 191 parameters. La(MoO2)(OH)(IO3)4 contains a complex three-dimensional network formed by eight co-ordinated La3+ cations, strongly distorted octahedral Mo(VI) centers, and bridging iodate anions. Infrared spectra further confirmed the presence of MoO66− and IO3− groups as well as MoOH interactions.

Abstract:A novel organic–inorganic hybrid compound [Cu(imi)2]4[γ-Mo8O26] (1) has been synthesized from hydrothermal reaction of imidazone, MoO3·H2O and CuSO4·5H2O in H2O solution and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Crystallographic data for 1: monoclinic, space group P2(1)/n, a=12.990(3)Å, b=13.915(3)Å, c=15.049(3)Å, β=108.24(3)°, Z=4, V=2583.4(9)Å3. The compound consists of the first centrosymmetric γ-octamolybdate-supported complex [Cu(imi)2]4[γ-Mo8O26]. TG analysis, IR and XPS spectrum of the compound were also studied.

Abstract:The first mixed-valent octamolybdate anion [(Mo4Mo4O24)-Mo-V-O-VI](4-), termed chi-octamolybdate due to its shape, was obtained by partial reduction of alpha-(Bu4N)(4)-[Mo8O26] in dry acetonitrile. Single-crystal X-ray structure analysis revealed that the anion includes an unusual (Mo4O8)-O-V cubane-like cluster core, whose four side faces are capped by four MoO4 units to form a crosslike cluster. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and bond valence sum (BVS) calculations were carried out to validate the presence of mixed-valent Mo centers.

Abstract:A novel organic-inorganic hybrid solid, (n-Bu4N)(2)[Mo6O17(NAr)(2)] (Ar = o-CH3OC6H4) 1, has been prepared by refluxing of (n-Bu4N)(2)[Mo6O19] and appropriate o-anisidine in acetonitrile with N-N'-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC) as the dehydrating agent. Compound 1 has been characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Both of the two terminal o-anisidido ligands are linked, respectively, to an Mo atom of the hexamolybdate in a terminal fashion and exhibit an almost linear coordination mode of the Mo=N triple bond character. The two o-anisidido aryl rings on the hexamolybdate cluster lie in the cis position, allowing pi-pi stacking of phenyl ring among the anions. In the crystal, the cluster anions of 1 aggregate into an interesting 1D double chain along the a-axis through pi-pi stacking and C-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen-bonding interactions. Compared to the hexamolybdate parent, this solid has a smaller optical band gap of 2.25 eV from UV-visible-near-IR reflectance spectroscopy Studies. It has also been characterized by H-1 NMR, IR, and UV/Vis spectroscopic techniques.
