Abstract:The major impetuses of factor movements and industry shifting in the economic integration in the Yangtze Delta Region have caused changes in spatial structures and industrial structures and promoted economic integration.First of all,through analyzing the frames of new spatial economics,an industry shifting theory of ″Flying Geese Pattern″ is worked out.A theoretical frame of ″Concentration-dispersing″ with industry shifting as major impetuses is set up and is used to explain the development of industry shifting and spatial structures.Secondly,based on the related theory of competition advantage in regional industry,the appraisal model of industry shifting is established and used to carry out quantitative appraisal on the competitive advantage of 25 two-digital code industries in Shanghai and Zhejiang in the two typical years of 1990 and 2004.It reveals the objective path of the central shifting and the development of industrial and spatial structures in the region.Thirdly,based on the devolvement course of industry shifting and through an analysis of dynamic variety in average income per capita from 1980 to 2003,it is defined that a long-term economic development in the Yangtze River Delta is a typical ″Concentration-dispersing″ evolvement duration with industry as a carrier and Shanghai as a center.In the 1980th,the main ″Center-Periphery″ system covers ″Shanghai-peripheries of Shanghai + peripheries of the Yangtze River Delta″.At the beginning of the 21 Century,the main ″Center-periphery″ system is developed,covering the Yangtze River Delta —— Peripheries of the Yangtze River Delta.

Abstract:The Yangtze River economic belt is the main force leading the high-quality development of China's economy, but its current internal economic differentiation issues require further study. In this study, to understand the development laws, change characteristics, evolutionary pattern, and main influencing factors on economic differences and economic network structure in the Yangtze River economic belt, 20 years of data from 1999 to 2018 at the general scale, three major regions, province, and city scales were analyzed. The results indicated that from 1999 to 2018, the total GDP of the Yangtze River economic belt steadily increased year by year, and the absolute difference in regional economy showed an expanding trend, while the relative difference was relatively stable. The total economic output and proportion of the three major regions all showed a trend of eastern region > central region > western region, but the growth rate and proportion trends were exactly the opposite. The GDP of 11 provinces and 110 cities showed positive global autocorrelation and obvious local spatial autocorrelation, but their radiative driving effect on surrounding areas was not strong, and the spatial agglomeration effect at the provincial level was better than that at the prefecture level or city level. The economic network structure was characterized by a single center structure dominated by the Shanghai and Jiangsu Province, gradually strengthening from west to east, and the gravity value growth rate in the western region was significantly higher than in the central and eastern regions. The city cluster in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and the Chengdu–Chongqing served as the main bridges and links, playing a crucial role in the cascade radiation process of economic connections. The research results have strategic significance for coordinating the region development of the Yangtze River economic belt and promoting the rise of central China.

Analysis of Economic and Spatial Linkage and Economic Integration Trend in Yangtze River Economic Belt from Social Network Analysis Perspective

Abstract:The development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt is a key method to realize the strategy of "One Belt One Road",and studying on the spatial structure of the economic linkage is helpful to promote the development among EastMiddle-West regions.Combined revised gravity model with social network analysis,this paper analyzes the spatial pattem and integration trend of economic linkage in Yangtze River Economic Belt in 2013.The results show that the economic linkage network of the Yangtze River Economic Belt forms two plates between the middle/lower reaches urban agglomeration and the upstream urban agglomeration,and developed transportation network improves the economic linkage between the middle and lower reaches urban agglomeration.Meanwhile,the "core-periphery" sｔructure analysis shows that the Yangtze River Economic Belt has obvious core periphery structure,and the density between core area and periphery area is quite different.In the Yangtze River Economic Belt,Shanghai,Wuhan,Changsha,Chongqing and Chengdu become important mediating cities in the economic linkage network.We also find that a special spatial pattern of "one axis,two plates,multi center" is developed in the economic linkage network of Yangtze River Economic Belt.Finally,economic integration of the middle and lower reaches urban agglomeration was emerged by consisting of urban agglomerations and key intermediary cities.It is beneficial from multi-center compact mode and multi-center loose mode between Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration and the middle reaches urban agglomeration.The important way of enhancing economic integration in Yangtze River Economic Belt is to strengthen the economic linkage between middle/lower reaches urban agglomeration and the upstream urban agglomeration,which has a "dual-core polarization mode".

Abstract:As economic motors and political actors, the Global Regions first put forward by Professor WU Zhiqiang in 2002 have been regarded as crucial parts of development strategies in China. In the "Eleventh Five Year Plan" by the National Development and Reform Commission of P.R.China, the Yangtze Delta region, one of the typical megalopolises or Global Regions in the East Coastal China will be paid more attention in the future. This paper first analyzes the regional structure of this area based on data of the fifth national population census of China. And then through the changes of the population growths, the dynamic process and mechanisms of the regional restructuring is explored and briefly discussed.

Abstract:Classical model of the spatial economics thinks that market factors will form spontaneously manufacture core-agriculture periphery in certain conditions and this mode will to be weakened when transportation costs drop to an extent.This paper takes Jiangsu’s changing industrial structure for example and expands this research to disequilibrium problems of regional development under transition background.In plan system,economy also appears core-periphery because of some institutions such as price scissors.The core-periphery feature still be maintained and even strengthened on some conditions during transformation period and form further service core on the base of the former.The feature will evolve to a new mode of the core of advanced manufacture and modern service ——the periphery of traditional manufacture and agriculture when factors costs rise to an extent and cause to industry migrate massively.
Dynamic Changes in Urban Land Spatial Inequality under the Core-Periphery Structure in Urban Agglomerations

Abstract:Relatively coordinated development among cities can typically promote the integration of the whole urban agglomeration, while urbanization of land has been found important to economic development in developing countries. Numerous studies have measured the urban land expansion in urban agglomerations. However, urban land spatial inequality under a specific spatial structure remains poorly understood. Here, we combined the beta-convergence model and the core-periphery structure to explore the dynamic changes in urban land spatial inequality in urban agglomerations. The Yangtze River Delta Urban Agglomeration (YRDUA) in China was selected as the study area. Indicators of urban land have been applied in conjunction with a modified conditional beta-convergence model, while the existence of the core-periphery structure was tested by analyzing coefficients of the control variable. The results show that although the spatial inequality of urban land area had decreased during 2000-2020, the whole YRDUA had still shown an obvious core-periphery structure. Compared with urban land area, the spatial inequality of urban land economic density and population density had decreased more rapidly, and the core-periphery structure was less obvious. Our findings can help to improve our current understanding of urban agglomeration and serve as a scientific reference for the coordinated development of urban agglomerations.

Abstract:Metropolitan areas are important for engaging in fierce global competition. Cities in metropolitan areas in China are generally characterized by a core-periphery structure. The Yangtze River Delta metropolitan area (YRD) is a national strategic region in which Shanghai, as a central city, drives the economic growth of hinterland cities. Exploring the spatiotemporal characteristics and influencing factors between the central city and its hinterland cities in the YRD can provide a basis for promoting regional development. Based on the headquarters-branches and enterprise investment data from 1978 to 2019, this study analyzes the spatiotemporal characteristics and influencing factors of enterprise linkages between Shanghai and its hinterland cities in the YRD. Our results reveal the following: (1) the headquarters-branch linkages between Shanghai and its hinterland cities manifest polarization characteristics, with different polarized characteristics among the three provinces; (2) the enterprise investment linkages between Shanghai and its hinterland cities are getting closer, but the key cities for investment in each province are different; (3) economic strength is a core factor that affects whether Shanghai establishes enterprise branches in its hinterland cities; and (4) the enterprise investment linkages between Shanghai and its hinterland cities depend on whether a city has a comparative advantage.
ASSESSMENT OF THE EQUILIBRIUM DEGREE AND LIMITATION DEGREE OF YANGTZE RIVER ECONOMIC BELT'S LAND DEVELOPMENT

Abstract:Based on the land change survey data from 2005-2015 of 11 provinces of the Yangtze River economic belt zone,this study comprehensively assesses the land development intensity of this district from two aspects of land development equilibrium degree and land development limit.It shows that:(1) The equilibrium degree of land development in the Yangtze River economic belt presents polarization;Land development in eastern and Western Regions is lopsided;Land development in Central China is relatively balanced.(2) The land development limitation of the Yangtze River Economic Zone is 5.58％,and all provinces exceed or close to the limit value,so intensive land development model should be established in these areas in the future.(3) There are significant differences of land development intensity in different regions of the zone,presenting a spatial pattern which is high in lower reaches and low in upper reaches,and high concentration in the east.Therefore,the land planning should be revised according to the land development limitation of each province;strengthen the land supply capacity to exploit new development potential in these areas whose construction land is inadequate;establish cross-region land development system,and exploit and utilize land more rational through improving policies and regulations.

Abstract:From the perspectives of territorial la-bor divisions among geographical units,this paper analyzes the “core-periphery” spatial and economic structures of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region by princi-pal component analysis and cluster analysis.And the related data is collected from the “the fifth national census in 2000” including data of 16 industries in the 209 geographical units involved.After that,based on the analysis of population changes in each geographi-cal unit since 1990s,it demonstrates the characteris-tics of the regional restructuring and the mechanism of the region.
Research on City System Spatial Structure of the Yangtze River Economic Belt: Based on DMSP/OLS Night Time Light Data

Abstract:Based on the DMSP/OLS night time light data of the years 1996- 2010 and using the analytical methods including city rank-size Rule,spatial autocorrelation analysis and the weighted standard deviation ellipse,this thesis systematically analyzes the spatial structure and changing features of the city system in the Yangtze economy belt. According to the research,the city system in the area has a core- peripheral structure,relatively dense in the east and sparse in the middle and the west. Between 1996 and 2010,the density of the city system was constantly high,though changing from increase in number to expansion in scale; The growth in space of the city system also has its obvious features,expanding first and shrinking afterwards,moving southwestward and then northeastward,moving along the coast,the Yangtze River,the Hukun Railway and North-South traffic passages; Due to the geographical conditions,distances and different phases of development,the cities in the Yangtze economy belt lie apparently discontinuously and in fragments.The features of development of each city group in the region are significantly different from each other. The Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai area has been developing in a continuous pattern,forming a relatively mature interregional city group. However,the vast inland city groups in the Yangtze economy belt are mostly in a city-suburb or multi-center pattern,immature for the forming of interregional city group and also with many uncertainties in the borders and spatial structures of city groups.

Structure and Changes of the Pear River Delta Region Since 2000

Abstract:In terms of the developed large city-region in the western countries,the study focus has on one hand shifted from the"global city"or"world city network"to the"global city-region"and the"Mega-city region",while on the other hand from the"core-periphery"theory to the polycentric theory.In this paper,the Pear River Region is selected as the case study area for the exploration of regional patterns and changes since 2000.The methods used in this paper contain the principal component analysis and the cluster analysis with the software of SPSS 13.The software MAPINFO is also used in the regional structure analysis.The related data resources are the 5th national census in 2000 and the population data of Guangdong in 2005.Main findings show that,(1)It demonstrate the evident"core-periphery -fringe"pattern in this region.And the core areas are mainly located alongside the Pear River,i.e.,the interlocking metropolitan areas.And the periphery areas mainly are those alongside the coast,while the fringe area is mainly the hinterland of Guangdong.(2)In the context of the"core-periphery-fringe"pattern outline,it demonstrates that certain signs of polycentricity in this region.(3)Since 2000,the core-periphery-fringe pattern is reinforced with unremarkable polycentralised tendencies.

Abstract:Based on the research of city centrality and economic core areas of China and the analysis of foreign trade freight flow, railway passenger flow, railway freight flow, transmigrant flow and letter flow, this paper summarizes the characteristics of domestic and foreign hinterlands of the economic core areas. (1) Beijing-Tianjin Area, the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta have become more and more dominant in China's regional economy since the reform and opening up started in 1978. (2) The Central-and-Southern Liaoning Area has been dropped behind by the other three core areas in economic development. The North-East China has degraded from first-class into second-class UERs. (3) As China's economy being gradually integrated into the world, there is a huge steering effect on domestic economic linkages of China's. (4) The distributions of the three core areas' hinterlands in domestic and foreign linkages are different, which reflect their different functional divisions in economic linkages. (5) The foreign economic linkages of Shandong and Fujian provinces almost depend completely on their own foreign ports, including Qingdao, Xiamen and Fuzhou. (6) The foreign economic linkages of frontier provinces bordering foreign countries are playing an important role in their economic development through landway channel.

Analysis of the Polycentric Structure of Yangtze River Delta Based on Passenger Traffic Flow

Abstract:Using flows of intercity buses and intercity CRHs(China Railway High-speed) in the Yangtze River Delta as proxies for the intercity passenger traffic flows,this paper analyzes the characters and trends of the polycentric structure of Yangtze River Delta from the perspective of relation intensity and organizational structure of urban node.It is found that the intercity relation network of the North and the South Wing in Yangtze River Delta is relatively independent,and the relations between the North Wing cities and Shanghai is more intensive than those between the South Wing cities and Shanghai.Furthermore,the relations among the North Wing cities are also more intensive than those among the South Wing cities. With regard to the city-region's spatial structure,Shanghai is the primary hub-city; Nanjing,Hangzhou and Ningbo are the secondary hub-cities;and Suzhou,Nantong and Wuxi are possibly the direct hinterland cities or even become included in the commuter zone of Shanghai metropolitan area.It is concluded that the"network + hierarchy"pattern is emerging in the Yangtze River Delta.This means that on the one hand,the polarization of Shanghai is strengthening,and on the other hand,the development of industries and infrastructure is going to be envened out in the whole city-region.

Abstract:This paper analyzes the industrial and spatial evolution of Yangtze River Delta from the perspective of Global cityregion,and argues that there has appeared a trend of city "network + hierarchy" by the effects of internal and external factors,which mainly expresses as homogenization,polycentralization of regional development and hierarchy restructure of service center system.The industrial structure is dramatically adjusting, the function division of city region is gradually clear,the difference between the North Wing and South Wing of Yangtze River Delta is increasingly emerging.Totally the pattern of "Along the Road,Along the River and Surround the Bay" will enhance,and the sub-regional development group will run new competition and cooperation.As the Globalizing city,Shanghai is continuing enhance the relation of "centre-hinterland" in Yangtze River Delta,then deeply changing its spatial configuration.
Exploration of the Path of Industrial Structure Adjustment Forced by the Rigid Constraint of Water Ecology in the Yangtze River Economic Belt

Abstract:Considering the two-way influence of water ecology and industrial structure, decompose and quantify the water ecological rigidity constraints into water environment constraints and water resources constraints, construct the evaluation system based on the theoretical framework of PSR, and analyze the spatio-temporal evolution characteristics of water ecological rigidity constraints of the Yangtze River Economic Belt from 2010 to 2021 by using the entropy weighting method, the method of catastrophe progression, and the kernel density estimation. Then, putting forward the types of zoning in the Yangtze River Economic Zone through K-means algorithm analysis to explore the rigid constraints of water ecology to force the path of industrial structure adjustment. The results indicate that: (1) the water ecological rigidity constraints show a decreasing trend, and the decreasing amplitude is upstream > downstream > midstream; (2) the water ecological rigidity constraints generally show the characteristic of "gradually decreasing from east to west", and the degree of regional differences first decreases, then increases, and then decreases again; (3) it can be divided into six types, and the zoning results gradually change from the concentration in the medium-high type and high-high type to the concentration in the low-low type and medium-low type, and the rigidity constraint of water ecology is obviously improved. In light of the findings, the Yangtze River Economic Belt is divided into five types of development regions and further discusses that the industrial restructuring in different zones has different influencing effects on the regional socio-economic development, which provides suggestions for differentiated paths of water ecological protection and industrial restructuring.

Spatial Structure of the Economic Network of Central Plains Economic Zone

Abstract:This paper will focus on the spatial structure of the economic network of Central Plains Economic Zone, 231 nodes which are at county level and above in this area are considered, their intensity of economic connection were computed based on gravity model in 1996 and 2010. Then, spatial pattern and evolution characteristics of the economic network of Central Plains Economic Zone are analyzed. The result shows: (1) There is significant difference among the node's cyber power in the economic network of Central Plains Economic Zone. Node's degree has a fat-tailed distribution to the right. Zhengzhou is the absolute center of the economic network and Luoyang is the subcenter as well as Handan. (2) According to the spatial structure of the economic network, the whole network can be divided into five communities. (3) The network is in a period of polarization. The hub node's cyber power is increasing such as Zhengzhou and Luoyang, etc. (4) Most hub nodes of the economic network are located in Central Plains City Group, so the development of Central Plains City Group is critical to enhance the connected ability of the economic network.

Abstract:The logistics industry plays a crucial role in facilitating regional economic development. Serving as a vital link connecting producers, consumers, and various components of the supply chain, it has a direct and profound impact on the prosperity and advancement of regional economies. Based on the panel data of 11 provinces in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from 2016 to 2020, this paper constructs the logistics capability evaluation index system from four aspects: regional economic base, logistics infrastructure, logistics development scale, information technology and talent support, and uses the entropy weight TOPSIS method to measure the logistics capability of each province. The adjacency space weight matrix, geographical distance weight matrix and economic distance weight matrix are selected to build a spatial econometric model to analyze the influencing factors and spatial spillover effects of regional logistics capability. The following conclusions can be drawn from the analysis. From 2016 to 2020, the regional logistics capacity of the Yangtze River Economic Belt shows a trend of increasing year by year, but the logistics capacity of different provinces within the region has a large room for improvement. From the perspective of spatial dimension, the logistics capacity of the Yangtze River Economic Belt is "high in the east and low in the west". The results of spatial econometric analysis based on the spatial Durbin model show that there are significant spatial spillover effects on the logistics capacity of provinces in the Yangtze River Economic Belt. Factors such as road network density, port throughput, water freight turnover, transportation, warehousing and postal employment will not only affect the logistics capacity of the region, but also have a spillover effect on the material capacity of neighboring provinces in the Yangtze River Economic Belt. This study improves the level of regional logistics capacity and promotes the regional economic development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. It can be used as a reference for other regions or countries in terms of enhancing regional logistics capacity and promoting regional economic development.

Abstract:The Yangtze River Economic Belt, relying on the golden waterway of the Yangtze River, serves not only as a vital industrial and urban stronghold in China but also bears the significant responsibility of the Yangtze River's major conservation efforts. The implementation of the main functional zones within the economic belt can provide regional synergies for development and protection through the optimization and organization of spatial structures, which is conducive to promoting the green and high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt in accordance with local conditions. In pursuit of these objectives, this paper utilizes multi-source data and selects corresponding indicators based on the main form of functional zoning to analyze the land protection and development patterns of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and to assess the effectiveness of the main functional zone planning implementation. The findings reveal that the enactment of main functional area planning has incrementally enhanced the level of land development and conservation in terms of certain aspects across the Yangtze River Economic Belt. This is evidenced by the burgeoning expansion of construction land in areas earmarked for optimization and pivotal development, bolstered by robust population and economic concentration capabilities, alongside a surge in per capita output. Moreover, ecological lands within critical ecological function zones exhibited signs of rejuvenation. Nonetheless, the outcomes are not universally aligned with the anticipated goals: the expanse of arable land in primary agricultural production zones has contracted, accompanied by a downturn in the proportion of grain output; the proliferation of construction land within key ecological function zones continues unabated, and ecological lands have experienced reductions over various intervals. The main functional zones have yet to fully embrace and enact protective strategies, highlighting an urgent need for more formidable institutional frameworks to guarantee their rigorous enforcement.
