Abstract:The principle of the wavelet transform is introduced.The wavelet transform is used to detect the weak signal,and it is compared with the way of Fourier transform.The result of simulation shows that the wavelet transform can improve signal-to-noise ratio effectively.

Abstract:For the detection of weak signal in strong noise background, a novel method was proposed based on conventional detection method. This method referred to the weak signal detection using autocorrelation jointed with wavelet threshold transformation and frequency modulation. The united denoising system of autocorrelation and wavelet threshold transformation was combined, so the negative impact from the noise was avoided greatly in the detection result. Using standard signal with adjustable frequency to modulate the measured signal frequency, thus the frequency difference of standard signal and the measured signal meet the testing conditions. It broke the restrictions of Duffing oscillator, which can only detect signals with the frequency similar to the system periodic driving force. The twooscillator-difference method is more intuitive, having good anti-noise performance, and the relative error is controlled under 5%. The system has a strong anti-interference, and the minimum signal-to-noise ratio can reach −41 dB. The feasibility and validity of this method were proved by the simulation results.

Abstract:Based on chaotic oscillator system and wavelet transform system, this paper proposes a novel method on high frequency weak signal detection. Chaotic system is a typical non-linear system which is sensitive to certain signals and immune to noise at the same time. Its properties demonstrate the potential application on weak signal detection. Due to the good localization in both time domain and frequency domain, the wavelet transform method can automatically adjust to different frequency components and increase the Signal-to-Noise Ratio. Starting from the analysis of advantages and disadvantages of two signal detection methods, we put forward a combined method that takes advantage of each method to detect weak signals with high frequency. The simulation results show that the novel method can detect weak signals with frequency in an order of magnitude of 107Hz, and the input Signal-to-Noise Ratio threshold could be-42.5dB.

Abstract:An improved digital lock-in technique with a wavelet filter is developed for the weak signals detection. A simulated signal modulated with a frequency of 40 kHz and contaminated by white noise is constructed to estimate the performance of the system. In this study, the selection of the wavelet filter parameters, such as the decomposition level, the wavelet basis and the threshold strategy is discussed. Finally, the performance of the system in different conditions is presented.

Abstract:Based on the multi-resolution of wavelet transform and chaotic system having a good immunity to noise and sensitive to weak periodical signal,a new method of weak signal detection was proposed based on the combination of the wavelet threshold de-noising and chaotic system by improving wavelet threshold de-noising and duffing oscillator.This method uses wavelet smoothing effect to the limited discrete processing of the signal that contains noise and uses the scale of the wavelet decomposition to determine the de-nosing depth,and then uses the reconstructed signal as the driving motivation of the perturbation cycle into the chaotic system.The chaotic oscillator array is applied to detect weak signal in noisy background,and Melnikov method is adopted as chaotic criterion.This new method has overcome the blindness to the determination of scale and irrationality choice to the threshold of past method of the wavelet decomposition,as well as the ambiguity to distinguish between the critical state and periodic motion state.At the same time,multi-frequency signal can be detected.The simulation results indicate that this detection method is simple and effective,and the detection precision is high.The minimum detection SNR reaches -100 dB and the frequency error is about 0.04%.The weak signal buried in strong noise detection method is improved.
Application of Wavelet Transforms for Real-Time Detection of Weak Radar Signals

Abstract:A real time detection method was presented to realize automatic recognition and tracking of weak radar signals in disturbance environments. Because of the different features of target and disturbance echoes, the local convexity of signals was analyzed using orthogonal derivative wavelets to determine the target position according to the statistical probability of the convex intervals. Simulated and actual data were used to test the effectiveness of the method. The results show that the method can effectively detect the target position with signal to disturbance ratios (SDR) down to -5 dB and the algorithm is simple, stable, and easily implemented.

Abstract:The wavelet transform (WT) technique is good for detecting, localizing and analyzing power quality disturbance signals. However, as the signals under analysis are always disturbed by noises, the effect of the WT technique is degraded. Strong noises even lead to a wrong judgement. This paper first analyses the different characteristics of signal and noise in wavelet analysis. Then an improved soft-threshold algorithm is proposed to enhance the WT technique in processing the noise-riding signals. With this algorithm, a proper threshold is formed according to the signal's eigenvalue and the statistic characteristic of noise in each wavelet spaces to de-noise the signals under investigation. Hence, the performance of the WT in detecting and analyzing the signals can be restored. This method not only can solve the conflict commendably between the local characteristics of protection signal and restriction of noises, thus properly de-noise the quality signals, but also realizes the compression of the data. Finally, the validity of the proposed method is verified by the results of the simulation.

Abstract:When the weak moving target is far away, the signal of the detecting system is very weak, and the background noise has a great influence on the detection results. In this paper, a method based on kernel theory is proposed, this method can distinguish target signal from background noise signal. To suppress background noise, a new threshold function based on wavelet packet decomposition is proposed. In the high-speed camera, the above two methods are used to detect weak moving targets. The experimental results show that the method has great advantages in the detection of small moving targets.

Abstract:Pulse ultra-wideband (UWB) signal is a transient pulse in time domain with very low power spectral density; In the long-distance communication, it is difficult to detect the low signal to noise ratio (SNR) pulse UWB signal submerged in strong noise. To solve the above problems, a novel adaptive stochastic resonance fusion wavelet transform method for UWB weak signal detection is proposed. Firstly, the adaptive optimization method which is based on the improved stochastic resonance potential well model is used to match the optimal parameters of the stochastic resonance (SR) system for the noisy signal, so that the noise energy can be transferred to the UWB signal and the signal amplification can be realized; Secondly, in view of the problem that SR method is insensitive to phase transient information and amplitude shift, wavelet transform is used to extract mutation information, so as to realize the accurate detection of UWB weak signal. The simulation results show that the proposed method can solve the problem that it is difficult to distinguish the change of signal state by using stochastic resonance method alone. Finally, two groups of actual signals with bandwidth of 10 MHz and 20 MHz are collected by the experimental system to test the effectiveness of the method.

A Detection Method of Radar Signal by Wavelet Transforms

Abstract:In this paper, an effective detection method of radar signal is presented based on the wavelet analysis. The purpose of this paper is to provide the review of the wavelet analysis research and to detect radar target from radar echo. The theory of wavelet analysis is presented including continuous and discrete wavelet transform. Then specific application, namely radar target detection is presented. In this paper, using wavelet transform to preprocess the radar echo, we are able to obtain multiple data series at different scales of the wavelet transform. These multiple data series can then be used as input to sensors of independent component analysis for detection of a single independent source. The proposed method is applied to radar target detection using a real signal series. It is demonstrated that the method in combination with wavelet transform is effective with feasible result. It has greater theoretical significance and actual applied value in regarded to radar signal processing and target identifying in our aerial defense weapon system.

Abstract:Due to the weakness of weak space-borne radar target detection, an approach to improve the signal to noise ratio (SNR) with denoising by wavelet decomposition and threshold processing is developed. Two denoising methods in time domain and range domain are designed combined with the characteristic of the stepped frequency signal and its high-resolution range profile. Both of the methods are proved effective on noise-rejecting and improving SNR. The denoising method in range domain has a better performance compared to the other one.

The conclusion can be drawn from the theory analysis and simulation result that the system can restrain noise effectively and improve the detection ability to the weak signal which the signal to noise radio (SNR) is lower than -20dB.

Abstract:In order to detect signal of one kind of infrared seeker,a method of weak pulse signal detection based on discrete stationary wavelet transform was presented.The method utilized the differences in frequency distribution trait between pure pulse signal and noise signal.The low frequency color noise was removed by the low frequency approximation signal of a multi-resolution analysis based on discrete stationary wavelet transform.The white noise was filtered by soft-threshold de-nosing.By applying this method to simulate noisy pulse signal and real seeker signal,experimental result shows that this method can enhance SNR of seeker signal greatly and detection ability of infrared seeker on the condition that it can avoid the Gibbs phenomena which often occur in traditional discrete wavelet transform de-noising method.

Abstract:Impulse radio ultra-wideband signal is difficult to detect due to its low power spectral density. Moreover, its extreme wide band makes it hard to digitalize. In this paper, a channelized blind detection based on wavelet packet decomposition is proposed and its detection performance is investigated. Based on the analysis of the detection performance, we develop a new detection threshold. Simulation results show that the detection performance based on wavelet packet decomposition maintains a good performance while it is easy to be implemented. Furthermore, within a fixed alarm probability, the new threshold obtains solid performance improvement.

Abstract:A weak feature signals identification method based on local projection and wavelet transform is introduced. Experiment indicates that the local projective algorithm can separate background signals and weak feature signals into different orthogonal sub-spaces. Wavelet transform is effective for noise reduction of sharp and break signals. The algorithm which combines the local projective and wavelet transform has an excellent effect on identifying weak feature signals in nonlinear time series.

Abstract:Performance comparison of some weak signal detection techniques is introduced. This comparison is very necessary since different applications require different operating conditions such as signal to noise ratio SNR, bandwidth, coherency, processing time and complexity. Three methods for detecting weak signals are considered. These are based on chaos theory, wavelet transform, and stocastic resonance. A detection algorithm based on a rectangular region in phase space plane is suggested in chaos method. The stocastic resonance method is considered in this research, as it is used for signal detection in underwater at a certain frequency. Simulation results obtained from MATLAB programs verify the studied methods giving an estimation of probability of detection and probability of false alarm versus SNR.

Abstract:Hough transform is usually used for target detection as an incoherent integration method. However, it is not suitable for weak target detection under low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) background. To solve this problem, a wavelet based de-noising method is proposed, which can be used for weak target detection of pulse compression radar. In this method, the pulse compressed echo signals are first denoised by a modified wavelet threshold filtering method and then the denoised echo signals are incoherently integrated by Hough transform. This method can effectively eliminate the noise in pulse compressed echo, resolving the frequency aliasing problem of the echo signal and noise. Finally, numerical simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:A wavelet is a rapidly decaying wavelike oscillation with zero mean. Wavelet transform is more suitable for analyzing various forms of non-smooth partial discharge signals than Fourier transform. Aiming at the common double exponential decay type partial discharge pulse, this paper studies the denoising effect of different wavelets, and compares the signal-to-noise ratio of the output signal, then selects the optimal one for the detection of partial discharge signal. The research results show that for the used wavelet, the partial discharge signal can be effectively detected while suppressing the noise interference.

Abstract:Noise can be used by the nonlinear stochastic resonance system to enhance the ability of weak signal detection, which creates a new method of weak signal detection under heavy background noise. A hardware circuit system, designed based on the basic principle of stochastic resonance, is used to detect single-frequency and multi-frequency weak signals. When the signal with noise that simulates actual engineering situation is introduced into the system, the spectrum of samples of the output signal shows that single-frequency and multi-frequency weak signals under heavy background noise can be detected by the technology based on stochastic resonance effectively. The application field of weak signal detection technology based on stochastic resonance is entended by the effective detection of mutil-frequency weak signal, and the degradation of signal recognition by low frequency noise is eliminated by digital filtering effectively. The weak signal detection technology based on stochastic resonance has potential applications in the information recognition and information processing.
