Abstract:The climate changes of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau （QXP） and their impacts on the global climate have been received much attentions in the past years.However， as a crucial component of the global climate system， climate change of QXP has unique characteristics under the global warming.With the establishment of the South Asian summer monsoon and the northward shift of the subtropical jet stream， precipitation over the QXP changes on multiple scales and is affected by multiple factors.Based on monthly precipitation of GPCC， and monthly reanalysis of ERA5 from 1961 to 2020， this study investigates the spatial-temporal distribution and evolution characteristics of QXP precipitation in the monsoon period （from May to September） during 1961 -2020 under the global warming， as well as the associated mechanisms.The results indicate that， the climatological precipitation over the QXP begins to increase and advance northward from May， and extends to the central QXP in July， precipitation over the QXP begins to retreat southward after September.The second mode of empirical orthogonal function （EOF） decomposition of QXP precipitation during monsoon period shows that， the annual QXP precipitation anomaly presents a north-south reverse dipole distribution along the Tanggula mountains.On the interdecadal scale， precipitation over the southern QXP starts to become less from 1961 to 1980， then turn to become more from 1981 to 2002， and becomes less again from 2002 to 2019.In general， precipitation in the southern QXP during the monsoon period presents a slight linear decreasing trend during the past 60 years， which may be related to the weakening of the South Asian summer monsoon.The variation of precipitation in the northern QXP is opposite to that in the southern QXP， during the monsoon period from 1961 to 2020， precipitation in the northern QXP increases by 28 mm·（10a）-1， while precipitation in the southern QXP decreases slightly by -3 mm·（10a）-1.Further investigations of general circulation indicate that， precipitation changes in the southern QXP during monsoon are mainly dominated by southern Asian monsoon activity.The advance and retreat of southern Asian monsoon directly affect the increase and decrease of precipitation in the southern QXP； while precipitation changes in the northern QXP during monsoon are mostly related to the Rossby wave propagation of the subtropical westerly jet.That is the precipitation changes in the southern and northern QXP regions controlled different climate system separately， in other word， summer precipitation over QXP should be interaction between monsoon and westerly system.
