Abstract:According to the quantitative and empirical research by utilizing the data from Chinese Urban Household Education and Employment Survey-2004(CHUHEES-2004) by Educational Economic Research Institute of Peking University,and drawing structural equation model(SEM)into the relationship between the Chinese urban dwellers' education and intergenerational mobility,it is found out that the acquisition of the children's social status more likely depends on their education instead of their family background in the Chinese towns.Although education is copying the original production relations to some extent,this kind of copy function is relatively weak,while its function of promoting intergenerational mobility is stronger.It is clear that the contribution of education to the society is not simply reflected in its promotion action to the economic growth,but also in the role at a deeper level which is to act as a kind of important intergenerational mobility mechanism,bearing the function of promoting social mobility,guaranteeing social equity and maintaining social stability.Therefore,while striving to develop education,our country should attach more importance to educational equalization,and create more equal employment opportunity so as to finally promote social equity.
