Measure of Mandible of Han Nationality People and Pertinence Analysis

Abstract:Objective Understand the correlation of related measuring data of mandible between adult men and women of Han nationality, search for the configurable points which have intimate influence on the structure characteristics of the lower face, and the relationship which influences one another. Methods Collect configurable point data of skull shape of normal people of Han nationality, with both men and women 200 cases for each; then carry through quantitative analysis to geometry configuration of the skull by statistic analysis; study the correlativity of each data of geometry characteristics having a close relation to lower face structure; select the configuration eigenvalues which can reflect the configurable relation between skull and upper jaw, skull and mandible, as well as the upper jaw and the mandible. Results Some factors related to the mandible: width of the middle face, mandible elevation and the ratio of the width of head to that of middle face. Some factors related to the distance between each sides of the mandible: width of the middle face, distance from top of the bridge of the nose to each sides of the mandible, and distance from chin to each cheekbone, etc. Further more, either men or women, the ratio of width of the middle face to width of the mandible is comparatively stabilized around 1.33. Conclusion Either for adult men or women of Han nationality the proportion of width of the middle face to width of the mandible is comparatively stabilized around 1.33, which can be considered as one of the diagnosis standards for both men and women. But for the diagnosis and treatment of some specific mandible cases, except the mandible and the distance between each side of the mandible, some other factors must be taken into account--the width of the middle face, mandible elevation, the ratio of the width of head to that of middle face and distance from chin to each cheekbone, etc.
