Abstract:Objective To evaluate the clinical effects of percutaneous transluminal angioplasty(PTA) in the treatment of infrapopliteal arterial occlusive disease. Methods The data of 34 patients(38 limbs) who underwent infrapopliteal PTA from June 2007 to July 2009 in our hospital were reviewed. Results Procedures were performed on 35 of 38 limbs(92%) successfully.During a mean follow up time of 8(range,3~18)months,ankle-brachial index(ABI) was increased from 0.41±0.12 before PTA to 0.82±0.05 after PTA(P<0.01).There was no death in hospital. The limb salvage rate and complication rate was 91.4% and 13%(5/38),respectively.Conclusion Infrapopliteal PTA can be performed with favorable clinical results in patients with chronic occlusive disease and reduce the amputation rate.PTA should be considered as an effective and safe therapy for lower extremity ischemia caused by infrapopliteal occlusive disease.
