The relationships among the dialects of the areas along the Yellow River in Qin-Jin Provinces and reasons of its formation

Abstract:There are many commonalities and obvious differences in the dialects of the area along the Yellow River in Shaanxi and Shanxi Provinces. It shows that differences between the south and the north are more remarkable than those between the west and the east. The Yellow River plays a role of contacting rather than a barrier among these dialects. There are close relationships in the administration, history, water communication, population migration, communication, in Qin-Jin provinces, especially the area along the river. These factors can be seen as explanations on the formation of the relationships among the dialects.
