Abstract:In this paper, we generalize Cartan's work on Riemannian locally and globally symmetric spaces to locally and globally symmetric Berwald spaces. We prove that a Berwald space is locally symmetric if and only if the flag curvature is invariant under parallel displacements and a locally symmetric Berwald space is locally isometric to a globally symmetric Berwald space.

Abstract:A characteristic for a complex Randers metric to be a complex Berwald metric is obtained. The formula of the holomorphic curvature for complex Randers metrics is given. It is shown that a complex Berwald Randers metric with isotropic holomorphic curvature must be either usually Kählerian or locally Minkowskian. The Deicke and Brickell theorems in complex Finsler geometry are also proved.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce the notion of Minkowski symmetric Lie algebras to give an algebraic description of symmetric Berwald spaces. As an application, we study some geometric properties of these spaces. In particular, we generalize an elegant result of E. Cartan on the sectional curvature of Riemannian symmetric spaces to the flag curvature of symmetric Berwald spaces.

Abstract:In this paper, we first present some sufficient conditions for the upper semicontinuity and/or the continuity of the Bregman farthest-point map $Q_C^g$ and the relative farthest-point map $S_C^g$ for a nonempty $D$-maximally approximately compact subset $C$ of a Banach space $X$. We next present certain sufficient conditions as well as equivalent conditions for a Klee set to be singleton in a Banach space $X$. Our results extend and/or improve the corresponding ones of [Bauschke, et al., J. Approx. Theory, 158 (2009), pp. 170-183] to infinite dimensional spaces.

Abstract:In this paper, we give the classification of some special types of weakly symmetric Finsler spaces. We first present a general principle to classify weakly symmetric Finsler spaces and also give a method to figure out the Berwald spaces among the class of weakly symmetric Finsler spaces. Then we give an explicit classification of weakly symmetric Finsler spaces with reductive isometric groups as well as the left invariant weakly symmetric Finsler metrics on nilpotent Lie groups of the Heisenberg type. As an application, we obtain a large number of high-dimensional examples of reversible Finsler spaces which are non-Berwaldian and with vanishing S-curvature, a kind of spaces which are sought after in an open problem of Z. Shen.

Abstract:A Finsler space is called Ricci-quadratic if its Ricci curvature Ric(x,y) is quadratic in y. It is called a Berwald space if its Chern connection defines a linear connection directly on the underlying manifold M. In this article, we prove that a homogeneous Randers space is Ricci-quadratic if and only if it is of Berwald type.

Abstract:We give first of all a new criterion for Bergman completeness in terms of the pluricomplex Green function. Among several applications, we prove in particular that every Stein subvariety in a complex manifold admits a Bergman complete Stein neighborhood basis, which improves a theorem of Siu. Secondly, we give for hyperbolic Riemann surfaces a sufficient condition for when the Bergman and Poincaré metrics are quasi-isometric. A consequence is an equivalent characterization of uniformly perfect planar domains in terms of growth rates of the Bergman kernel and metric. Finally, we provide a noncompact Bergman complete pseudoconvex manifold without nonconstant negative plurisubharmonic functions.

Abstract:In this paper we give an explicit formula for the flag curvature of homogeneous Randers spaces of Douglas type and apply this formula to obtain some interesting results. We first deduce an explicit formula for the flag curvature of an arbitrary left invariant Randers metric on a two-step nilpotent Lie group. Then we obtain a classification of negatively curved homogeneous Randers spaces of Douglas type. This results, in particular, in many examples of homogeneous non-Riemannian Finsler spaces with negative flag curvature. Finally, we prove a rigidity result that a homogeneous Randers space of Berwald type whose flag curvature is everywhere nonzero must be Riemannian.
On characterizations of a some classes of Schauder frames in Banach spaces

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the following results. There exists a Banach space without basis which has a Schauder frame. There exists an universal Banach space $B$ (resp. $\tilde{B}$) with a basis (resp. an unconditional basis) such that, a Banach $X$ has a Schauder frame (resp. an unconditional Schauder frame ) if and only if $X$ is isomorphic to a complemented subspace of $B$ (resp. $\tilde{B}$). For a weakly sequentially complete Banach space, a Schauder frame is unconditional if and only if it is besselian. A separable Banach space $X$ has a Schauder frame if and only if it has the bounded approximation property. Consequenty, The Banach space $\mathcal{L}(\mathcal{H},\mathcal{H})$ of all bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$ has no Schauder frame. Also, if $X$ and $Y$ are Banach spaces with Schauder frames then, the Banach space $ X\widehat{\otimes}_{\pi}Y$ (the projective tensor product of $X$ and $Y$) has a Schauder frame. From the Faber$-$Schauder system we construct a Schauder frame for the Banach space $C[0,1]$ (the Banach space of continuous functions on the closed interval $ [0,1]$) which is not a Schauder basis of $C[0,1]$. Finally, we give a positive answer to some open problems related to the Schauder bases (In the Schauder frames setting).

Abstract:In this paper, we study S-curvature of cohomogeneity one Randers spaces with orbit space S1. In particular, we present an explicit coordinate-free formula of S-curvature in terms of some quantities which is determined by the metric and the structure of the manifold. As an application, we give a sufficient and necessary condition for a cohomogeneity one Randers space to have almost isotropy S-curvature. Furthermore, we give some simple criterions for a cohomogeneity one Randers space to be a Berwald space or a Douglas space.

Abstract:We study the Schur index, the Zhu's C-2 algebra, and the Macdonald index of a four dimensional N = 2 Argyres-Douglas (AD) theories from the structure of the associated two dimensional W-algebra. The Schur index is derived from the vacuum character of the corresponding W-algebra and can be rewritten in a very simple form, which can be easily used to verify properties like level-rank dualities, collapsing levels, and S-duality conjectures. The Zhu's C-2 algebra can be regarded as a ring associated with the Schur sector, and a surprising connection between certain Zhu's C-2 algebra and the Jacobi algebra of a hypersurface singularity is discovered. Finally, the Macdonald index is computed from the Kazhdan filtration of the W-algebra.

Abstract:We investigate the flow generated by a magnetic stirrer in cylindrical containers by optical observations, PIV measurements and particle and dye tracking methods. The tangential flow is that of an ideal vortex outside of a core, but inside downwelling occur with a strong jet in the very middle. In the core region dye patterns remain visible over minutes indicating a pure stirring and mixing property in this region. The results of quantitative measurements can be described by simple formulas in the investigated region of the stirring bar's rotation frequency. The tangential flow turns out to be dynamically similar to that of big atmospheric vortices like dust devils and tornadoes.

Abstract:We consider mixed normed Bergman spaces on homogeneous Siegel domains. In the literature, two different approaches have been considered and several results seem difficult to be compared. In this paper we compare the results available in the literature and complete the existing ones in one of the two settings. The results we present are: natural inclusions, density, completeness, reproducing properties, sampling, atomic decomposition, duality, continuity of Bergman projectors, boundary values, transference.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce new spaces of holomorphic functions on the pointed unit disc of $\mathbb C$ that generalize classical Bergman spaces. We prove some fundamental properties of these spaces and their dual spaces. We finish the paper by extending Hardy-Littlewood and Fejér-Riesz inequalities to these spaces with an application on Toeplitz operators.

Abstract:Berwald metrics are particular Finsler metrics which still have linear Berwald connections. Their complete classification is established in an earlier work, [Sz1], of this author. The main tools in these classification are the Simons-Berger holonomy theorem and the Weyl-group theory. It turnes out that any Berwald metric is a perturbed-Cartesian product of Riemannian, Minkowski, and such non-Riemannian metrics which can be constructed on irreducible symmetric manifolds of $rank > 1$. The existence of these metrics are well established by the above theories. The present paper has several new features. First, the Finsler functions of Berwald manifolds are explicitly described by the Chevalley polynomials. New results are also the complete lists of reversible (d(x,y)=d(y,x)) resp. irreversible ($d(x,y)\not =d(y,x)$) Berwald metrics. The Cartan symmetric Finsler manifolds are also completely determined. The paper is concluded by proving that a Berwald metric is uniquely determined by the Minkowski metric induced on an arbitrarily fixed maximal totalgeodesic flat submanifold (Cartan flat). Moreover, any two Cartan flats are isometric.
