Adverse Events Following Immunization of H1N1 Vaccine in 160 Children

Abstract:Objective To explore the adverse events following immunization(AEFI) of influenza A(H1N1) vaccine in school-age children.Methods The data of 160 cases of AEFI of H1N1 vaccine collected in Children′s Hospital of Fudan University from Nov.2009 to Jan.2010 were analyzed retrospectively.The sex,age distribution,involved organs(systems) and clinical manifestations of the children with FEFI were descriptively anlyzed in this paper.Results One hundred and sixty AEFI cases were reported,including 77 male and 83 female.Grouped by age,144 recipients were in primary school-age group,14 recipients were in junior high school-age group,and 2 recipients were in high school-age group.Four cases had allergic reactions and 4 cases had local redness and swelling,155 cases had fever,115 cases had respiratory symptoms,22 cases had gastrointestinal symptoms and 79 cases had neurological symptoms.Symptoms were observed in 106 cases within 24 h,36 cases within 24-48 h,15 cases within 48-72 h,and only 3 cases after 72 h.Symptoms were relieved within 3 days in the majority of the recipients.The most common minor vaccine reaction were fever,headache and local swelling.Serious AEFI occurred only in 4 recipients.One hundred and twenty-five AEFI cases were classified into coincidental illness,with good prognosis.Conclusions AEFI of H1N1 vaccine may be more common in young children mostly and which occurre within 24 h after vaccination.AEFI is often mild to mode-rate,and self-limited,mainly respiratory symptoms,and can be relieved within 3 d.The prognosis of coincidental disease with upper acute respiratory infections is good.
