Sharing Views on General English Teaching Reform

Abstract:In recent years the General English Teaching reform at a higher-education level in China has attracted a lot of attention.There are possibly two reasons for this: one is due to its importance,there being a huge number of learners,covering a wide range,and concerning the quality of higher education,and the other is due to its inadaptability,being unable to satisfy expectations from learners and society.Behind these concerns are care and hope and moreover,responsibility and conscience.In this issue,several scholars are invited to join discussions in written forms on issues,mainly,over educational aim and ideology,teaching goal,teaching model,curriculum system,and curriculum nature with regard to the General English Teaching reform.Their discussions focus on the emerging issues and future reform directions,with each having its own concern but sharing a unique,insightful view with clear articulation.It is believed that such discussions tend to foster expression of candid voices and thus help push forward the General English Teaching reform in China.
