Comprehensive Analysis on Ear Characters and Yield of the Different Maize Varieties in Dryland Area

Abstract:Comprehensive analysis of 8 ear characters and yield was conducted in 45 maize varieties with correlation analysis,path analysis and cluster analysis.The results indicated that the interrelation coefficients with grain weight per plant,1000-grain weight showed a higher positive value than the others.The direct path coefficients of 8 ear characters on yield ranked as follows:grain weight per plant,kernels per row,ear length,1000-grain weight,barren length,seed ratio,ear width.The results of cluster analysis to 8 ear characters was that the group 3 had the highest grain weight per plant with coordinate relationship between all ear characters and excellent performance of yield.Therefore,in dryland area,it was the effective way to obtain high yield with increasing grain weight per plant and taking into account kernels per row,1000-grain weight,ear row number and ear width.
