Abstract:[Objective]To explore the effect and mechanism of continuous dynamic pressure stress on callus mineralization during experimental fracture healing.[Method]Humeral diaphyses of 60 adult rabbits were osteotomized in the middle and were divided randomly into two groups.Group A,humeral fractures fixed with shape memory connector(SMC)group B fixed with dynamic compression plate(DCP).Samples from the fracture gaps were obtained at 2,3,4,8,12 weeks after operation and blood specimens were collected at 1,2,3,4,8,12 weeks. Then the calcium and phosphorus contents of callus in fracture gaps and the serum levels of bone-specific alkaline phosphatase(B-ALP) were determined.[Result]The calcium and phosphorus contents of callus increased throughout the healing process. The serum B-ALP levels peakedat 4 to 8 weeks after fracture, with an over two-time increase, and then decreased slightly. The calcium and phosphorus contents of callus and the serum levels of B-ALP were higher in SMC fixed cases compared with those fixed with DCP at 3 to 4 weeks after fracture.[Conclusion]The special persistent dynamic longitudinal pressure stress produced by SMC may contribute to the process of mineralization and endochondral ossification for the fracture callus.
