Analysis on causes of rupturing of pedicle screw system in the treatment of the spinal fractures of the thoracolumbar segments

Abstract:Objective To analyse the causes of internal fixators rupturing of pedicle screw internal fixation system in thoracolumbar fractures.Method From Jan 2005 to Sep 2010,179 cases of thoracolumbar fractures were treated with pedicle screw system.There were 9 cases in T10,15 in T11,22 in T 12,75 in L1,39 in L2,19 in L3.92 cases were treated with AF system and 87 cases with GSS system.Results There were 7 screws rupturing,3 bolts broken.Conclusion Precise and standardized operative procedure,sufficient bone graft,external fixators protection during postoperative rehabilitation are valuable procedures for prevention of implant failure.
