Abstract:Phycocyanin is one of the major accessory pigments,containing an open chain phycocyanobilin chromophore,which was firstly found in Spirulina.Because it has many biological activities,such as anticancer and antioxygen,phycocyanin has become the hot spot of the natural marine drugs researches.Referring to the newest research results in recent years,we have introduced the newest study progress on pharmacological activities and mechanism of phycocyanin prospects to provide some information for the further re- search of various kinds of biological functions.

Abstract:Carotenoids is a family of nutrient and bioactive components in vegetable and fruits.Recently considerable epidemical studies found that the vegetable and fruits containing carotenoids could reduce the risk of some chronic diseases.The bioactivities of carotenoids except for the sources of VA are focused on again,especially the common antioxidant activity of all the carotenoids,the preventing of prostate cancer of lycopene,the protecting of eyes and skin and the preventing of osteoporosis.The paper briefly introduced the structure and occurrence in food and human body,emphasized especially the new researches of bioactivities,and discussed the problems and possible researching fields.

Abstract:Phycobiliproteins are a group of pigment proteins with similar structures,which are formed through a covalent thioether bond between phycobilin and sulfhydryl(-SH) groups in conservative cysteine residues.Due to its fluorescence,phycobiliprotein is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry.In this article,the classification and structure of phycobiliprotein,extraction procedures and purification are described.In addition,the anti-oxidant,anti-inflammatory and antitumor functions of phycobiliprotein as well as corresponding mechanisms are discussed.According to current studies,many efforts still need to be made for seeking potential resources and food functions of phycobiliprotein.

Abstract:Phycocyanin isolated from marine organisms has the characteristics of high efficiency and low toxicity, and it can be used as a functional food. It has been reported that phycocyanin has anti-oxidative function, anti-inflammatory activity, anti-cancer function, immune enhancement function, liver and kidney protection pharmacological effects. Thus, phycocyanin has an important development and utilization as a potential drug, and phycocyanin has become a new hot spot in the field of drug research. So far, there are more and more studies have shown that phycocyanin has the anti-cancer effect, which can block the proliferation of cancer cells and kill cancer cells. Phycocyanin exerts anti-cancer activity by blocking tumor cell cell cycle, inducing tumor cell apoptosis and autophagy, thereby phycocyanin can serve as a promising anti-cancer agent. This review discusses the therapeutic use of phycocyanin and focuses on the latest advances of phycocyanin as a promising anti-cancer drug.

Abstract:Fucoxanthin is a natural carotenoid derived mostly from many species of marine brown algae. It is characterized by small molecular weight, is chemically active, can be easily oxidized, and has diverse biological activities, thus protecting cell components from ROS. Fucoxanthin inhibits the proliferation of a variety of cancer cells, promotes weight loss, acts as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent, interacts with the intestinal flora to protect intestinal health, prevents organ fibrosis, and exerts a multitude of other beneficial effects. Thus, fucoxanthin has a wide range of applications and broad prospects. This review focuses primarily on the latest progress in research on its pharmacological activity and underlying mechanisms.

Abstract:Apigenin is an important flavonoid in Apium graveolens. It has the effect of inhibition and cell apotosis induction on many kinds of cancer cells.But the mechanism of its effect on cancer cells has not yet been explained thoroughly and accurately.In this paper,apigenin’s anti- cancer effect was summarized and discussed with the reference of relevant literatures of anticarcinogenic activity in recent years. The research of the mechanism was further concentrated on the cellular and molecular levels including the inhibition or activation on gene and protein, regulation of signal factor,intervention of enzyme activity. This research of the mechanism of apigenin ’s anticarcinogenic activity was an important part of cancer chemoprevention,which provided theory basis for its application as a cancer chemoprevention agent.

Study on the Antitumor Immune Activities of Phycocyanin and Polysaccharide from Spirulina Platensis

Abstract:In this paper, we report the verification of the antitumor immune effects of the phycocyanin and polysaccarides isolated from blue-green alga Spirulina platensis by the ELISA,MTT and QHS methods at immune organic, cellular and molecular levels. The results show that the phycocyanin and polysaccarides have noticeable effects on antitumor immune activities. Compared with the control group, the size and weight of the tumor in groups treated with phycocyanin and polysaccharides are significantly smaller, the activity of T and B lymphocytes are markedly strengthened, and the quantity of the antibody is greatly enhanced as well. And it is found that the phycocyanin is better than the polysaccharides in tumor inhibition and immunity enhancement.

Abstract:As one of the important active components of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), plant origin active proteins have many significant pharmacological functions. According to researches on the plant origin active proteins reported in recent years, pharmacological effects include anti-tumor, immune regulation, anti-oxidant, anti-pathogeny microorganism, anti-thrombus, as well as hypolipidemic and hypoglycemic activities of plant origin were reviewed, respectively. On the other hand, the analytical methods including chromatography, spectroscopy, electrophoresis and mass spectrometry for plant origin proteins analysis were also summarized. The main purpose of this paper is providing a reference for future development and application of plant active proteins.

Abstract:Phycobiliprotein is a natural product with many biological activities in various seaweeds. Phycobiliproteins have been widely used for anti-oxidation, anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory and immune-enhancing activities as a functional factor. Phycobiliproteins with high purity are considerably more expensive than common. To provide with a systematic, deep and detailed information about those features of phycobiliproteins, we performed a relatively comprehensive analysis on structural composition, the application of phycobiliproteins in the fields of fluorescent probe and photodynamic therapy in this report.

Abstract:Phycocyanobilin (PCB) is a linear open-chain tetrapyrrole chromophore that captures and senses light and a variety of biological activities, such as anti-oxidation, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory. In this paper, the biological activities of PCB are reviewed, and the related mechanism of PCB and its latest application in disease treatment are introduced. PCB can resist oxidation by scavenging free radicals, inhibiting the activity of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase, and delaying the activity of antioxidant enzymes. In addition, PCB can also be used as an excellent anti-inflammatory agent to reduce the proinflammatory factors IL-6 and IFN-γ and to up-regulate the production of anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 by inhibiting the inflammatory signal pathways NF-κB and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK). Due to the above biological activities of phycocyanobilin PCB, it is expected to become a new effective drug for treating various diseases, such as COVID-19 complications, atherosclerosis, multiple sclerosis (MS), and ischaemic stroke (IS).
