Abstract:Outliers, random noises, and some coherent noises (e. g. multiples) are the noises typically existing in prestack gathers. These noises manifest certain behaviors, thus can be suppressed according to the properties of the prestack gathers. The effectiveness of filtering depends on the correctness of stacking velocity. This paper presented a new approach for stacking velocity analysis, and discussed the principles, procedure, applicability, and applications of suppression of prestack random noises and outliers based on the new stacking velocity analysis method.
