Abstract:This paper proposes some novel substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) bandpass filters combined with planar resonators. According to specific topologies, microstrip lines with different electrical lengths are introduced into their designs. Their corresponding phase-shift characteristics are used to obtain the desired couplings between SIW cavities and the microstrip resonator. Two third-order filter samples are realized. One has a single transmission zero below the passband and the other possesses a quasi-elliptic response. Further, a fourth-order filter is developed by effectively superpositing two individual third-order topologies. It shows better frequency selectivity and flat in-band group delay, with good agreement between the measured and the simulated S -parameters. Their compactness and high rejection in the stopbands make them very suitable for system-on-package.

Abstract:A novel third-order substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) filter incorporated with a coplanar waveguide (CPW) is presented in this paper. The CPW not only acts as a resonator, but also brings mixed coupling between two SIW resonators. It is shown that the filter has two transmission zeros and wide stopband, which is very compact in comparison with conventional third-order SIW counterpart. Good agreement is obtained between its measured and simulated S-parameters.

Abstract:This paper presents an effective technique to obtain miniaturized and high-selectivity substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) bandpass filters by loading complementary split-ring resonators (CSRRs) at the SIW cavities. The existence of the CSRR enables a considerable reduction of the resonance frequency of a conventional SIW cavity thanks to the coupling effect between CSRR and SIW cavity. Besides, a sharp roll-off is generated in a higher stopband due to the characteristics of CSRRs. To demonstrate the operation principal, the second- and third-order SIW bandpass filters are fabricated using standard printed circuit board technology, showing advantages of compact size, good selectivity, easy fabrication, and integration with other circuits. The measured -parameters agree well with the simulated ones.

Abstract:A new broadband bandpass filter is proposed using stub-loaded ridge substrate integrated waveguide (SIW). The ridge SIWs loaded with and without stubs play the roles of resonators and inductive coupling structures, respectively. Since the cutoff frequency of ridge SIW is designed within the passband, both its propagating and evanescent modes are utilized to provide a strong coupling over the whole passband. The proposed filter has a multilayer configuration and can be fabricated with a standard low temperature cofired ceramic (LTCC) technology. In order to validate our design, a LTCC filter prototype is developed with a central frequency of 19 GHz and a fractional bandwidth of 40%. It has a compact volume of 6.89×2.85×0.79 mm3 and a low measured in-band insertion loss of 1.2 dB. The good performance of our proposed SIW filter has been demonstrated by the reasonable agreement obtained between the simulated and measured S-parameters. Its potential application for system in package is expected.

Abstract:A new hybrid-integrated dual-band filter is proposed for WLAN application, where the lower passband is implemented by a pair of stepped-impedance resonators (SIRs) and the higher passband is provided by two substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavities. In our design, the SIRs are embedded into the SIWs to reduce the size. The relationship between the parasitic resonances of SIW structure and the locations of its transmission zeros is studied. Its good performances have been demonstrated by the simulated and measured S-parameters.

Abstract:A novel evanescent-mode bandpass filter (BPF) is presented using folded and ridge substrate integrated waveguides (FSIWs & RSIWs). Both measured and simulated S-parameters are presented to show the characteristics, with good agreements achieved between them. It is experimentally validated that such a BPF has better performance in spurious suppression and much smaller size than those of conventional SIW cavity-coupled counterparts.

Abstract:An ldquoextended doubletrdquo bandpass filter (BPF) is proposed using a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity with a complementary split ring resonator (CSRR) etched on its top metal plane. Thus, a single-layer BPF with two transmission zeros is realized successfully, with no additional area or layers occupied. The measured and simulated S-parameters of the filter are presented to show its predicted performance, with good agreements obtained between them.

Abstract:A set of miniaturized dual-band bandpass filters is presented with a quadruple-folded substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) implemented into each design. They were fabricated using standard low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) technology. The bandwidths of both passbands of the filters are adjustable independently by changing the geometrical parameters of the coupling structure. Two filter samples are demonstrated with central frequencies located at 2.4/5.2 and 2.4/5.7 GHz, respectively, and their measured S-parameters agree well with the simulated ones.

Abstract:One miniaturized multilayer dual-band bandpass filter (BPF) is developed using standard low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) technology. The filter makes use of four double-folded substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) resonators. Two sets of coupling paths between the source and load are implemented to generate dual-band responses. Utilizing this method, the two passbands can operate at independent frequencies and the bandwidth can be easily controlled. High isolation is obtained between two passbands, and two pairs of transmission zeros close to the passband edges are generated by source-load coupling, resulting in high skirt-selectivity. Good agreement between the simulated and measured results of the filter sample is obtained, with its high electrical performance validated.

Abstract:A novel microstrip wide band-pass filter using the Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) technique 11] is described in this paper. The SIW is one of alternatives for packaging the microwave components oil the same substrate. The filter exhibits 52.7% bandwidth (6.67GHz-11.45GHz in the center frequency 9.06GHz) for -10.2dB return loss and 2.3dB insertion loss in the pass-band. The proposed filter has a compact size and it is suitable for designing microwave and millimeter-wave circuits.

Abstract:A design method for compact substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) bandpass filters (BPF) with controllable finite transmission zeros (FTZs) is proposed in this work, which is realised by a dual-layer SIW structure with two single-mode SIW cavities in the upper substrate and one dual-mode SIW cavity in the lower substrate. A basic dual-layer SIW BPF in box-section coupling scheme is proposed and analysed. Two FTZs can be produced for the bypass couplings between the diagonal cross-coupling paths. To enhance the cross-coupling strength, a magnetic coupling window between the two single-mode SIW cavities is designed. To further improve the selectivity of passband, a frequency-dependent coupling is designed between the two single-mode SIW cavities to produce an additional FTZ. Characteristics of the proposed dual-layer SIW filters with controllable FTZs are analysed. For the demonstration, some design examples with the centre frequency of 7.5 GHz and bandwidth of 240 MHz are presented, and two design examples are fabricated to verify the performance of the proposed design method for compact dual-layer SIW filters with controllable FTZs.
Substrate Integrated Plasmonic Waveguide for Microwave Bandpass Filter Applications

Abstract:In this paper, we numerically and experimentally demonstrate a substrate integrated plasmonic waveguide (SIPW) concept and its application in microwave bandpass filters. This SIPW consists of double arrays of slots etched on the top and bottom metal layers of a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) to support spoof surface plasmon polariton (SSPP) modes with low and high cutoff frequencies. The simulated results show that by tuning the parameters of the SIPW's unit cell, the dispersion characteristics can be engineered at will. Then, we propose a sharp roll-off microwave bandpass filter based on this SIPW. This filter has a passband from 7.5 to 13.0 GHz with high return loss and low insertion loss. Furthermore, to demonstrate the independent tuning of the passband of the filter, we also design two microwave bandpass filters with passbands of 9.2-13.0 GHz and 7.5-10.5 GHz by decreasing the distance between two rows of via holes and increasing the slot length, respectively. Finally, to experimentally validate the filter designs, we fabricate and measure three prototypes and find that the experimental results are in excellent agreement with the simulations. This SIPW concept may have extensive potential applications in the development of various plasmonic integrated functional devices and circuits.

Abstract:In this paper, the research advances in SIW-like (Substrate Integrated Waveguide-like) guided wave structures and their applications in the State Key Laboratory of Millimeter Waves of China is reviewed. Our work is concerned with the investigations on the propagation characteristics of SIW, half-mode SIW (HMSIW) and the folded HMSIW (FHMSIW) as well as their applications in microwave and millimeter wave filters, diplexers, directional couplers, power dividers, antennas, power combiners, phase shifters and mixers etc. Selected results are presented to show the interesting features and advantages of those new techniques.

Abstract:A novel substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) dual-band bandpass filter fabricated on a double-layer substrate is presented in this article. Each layer uses two rectangular cavities to create a passband, so the two individual bandpass filters are formed by setting the different locations of loaded posts for dual-band operation, that is, 4.6 and 5.3 GHz. In design, the coupling between the upper and lower layers is realized via two slots on the middle metal layer between two substrates. The double-layer structure not only provides a degree of freedom to control the center frequency of two passbands, but also improves the out-of-band rejection skirts with the help of produced transmission zeros. In final, the proposed SIW bandpass filter is fabricated to prove the predicted results in experiment, and good agreement is obtained. (c) 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract:The substrate integrated waveguide(SIW)technique makes it possible that a complete cir- cuit including planar circuitry,transitions,and rectangular waveguides are fabricated in a planar form u- sing a standard printed circuit board.SIW is presented in this article,and then a filter design method de- rived from a synthesis technique using rectangular waveguides is presented.To validate the approach pres- ented,the filter is designed at the center frequency of 35 GHz with 2.7% fractional bandpass width.The result is validated by numerical simulation on the basis of CST.

Abstract:This article proposes a new class of box-like substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) filters with wide stopband. First, a two-pole doublet bandpass filter with one finite-transmission zero (FTZ) is proposed using a new planar dual-mode rectangular SIW cavity, which is realized by TE 201 and TE 103 modes. TE 102 , TE 202 , and TE 104 modes are suppressed intrinsically by arranging feeding lines at the horizontal centerline of the dual-mode SIW cavity. Then, a four-pole box-section filter with one FTZ is proposed using one dual-mode and two single-mode rectangular SIW cavities, and the two single-mode cavities have different width-length ratios to further improve the stopband performance. To further improve the cutoff skirt, a new design method for five-pole quasi-elliptic SIW filter is proposed, which is achieved by the four-pole filter loaded by one single-mode SIW cavity. Some design examples with the center frequency of 10 GHz are presented to verify the performance of the proposed dual-mode SIW filters and the design method.

Abstract:In this paper,two novel substrate integrated waveguide filters are designed,fabricated and tested.Being fabricated by standard printed circuit board（PCB） process.The filters have advantages of low insertion loss,low profile and small size etc.The filters are designed at the center frequency of 10.85 GHz,the fractional bandwidth is 4.6%,and the insertion loss is less than 1.5 dB.Measured results are in good agreement with the simulated results.

Abstract:This article presents a new defected ground structure (DGS) and expands its application for designing high-performance bandpass filters based on substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) platform. The presented DGS is consisted of two complementary stepped-impedance E-shaped structures and placed them together face-to-face. Such designed DGS is inserted into the top layer of a millimeter-wave SIW to act as high-frequency stopping property. Based on the proposed DGS, two high-performance SIW bandpass filters with single-band and dual-band features are achieved, by fabricating prototypes and experimentally investigating the filtering performances. Good agreements between the simulations and experiments are obtained. Such proposed SIW bandpass filters based on the designed new DGS can be widely used in the upcoming 5G communication area.
